Carpenter Street is lying parallel to Main Bazaar.The street is considered backstreet to the Main Bzaar.The street was formerly known as "Attap Sreet" because shophouse there were once coverd by attap dwellings. There were also carpenters working in their workshop here,thus giving the street its name
Nestled in the heart of Kuching,Carpenter Street is one of the city's most iconic and vibrant streets,steeped rich history and heritage.The Carpenter street is one of the oldest streets located in Kuching and is also the heart of Kuching.The Carpenter Street give a powerful impression of the culture and characteristics of its place.There is a row of perfectly reserved 19th century Chinese house for aficionados of heritage building.
There are rows of shop lots located along the carpenter street,all these shop lots differ from each other by the things the sell and most of them are for tourism and historical.
The most famoust in Kuching is definitly the must-try Kolom Mee.It is solt almost everywhere around Kuching and Carpenter Street and local people take kolo mee for breakfast,lunch and even for supper.One of the best kolo mee restourant in Carpenter Street is Juat Siang Cafe.Ttaditional Chinese family coffee shop with variety of food for breakfast and lunch.Good Beef Noodle,Mixed Dishes with rice,Kolo Mee Curry Mee,Laksa,Kue Chap and Pork Trotter and curry rice

Actually mee kolok is the Malay version of original Chinese kolok mee of Sarawak. Among the Chinese community, we call it kolok mee or kolo mee. The Malay version is mee kolok which is darker in colour and also tastes sweeter because dark soy sauce is added but they use the same type of mee.
