Howdy folks. Hope y'all are staying indoors and staying soapy. Big thanks to BellusDaisy (the artist formally known as Effectator) for slapping all these clips together. You might have noticed we're pretty behind on streams. This year Jerma really upped the length and quantity of the streams and that can be hard for two folks to keep up with. I've started comissioning guest editors, some of whom I hope will become regular editions to the channel, and by the grace of god you'll see some streams from 2020 in 2020. 32:05 this is actually a real and dangerous phenomenon, where planes flying over the ocean without any indicators of land sometimes mistake the sea for the sky. altometers made these mistakes almost impossible, but it used to be a huge issue.
@dr.baldskin4 жыл бұрын
I know this might be a stupid question, but wouldn't the pilot be able to tell which way is up just by feeling gravity?
@GODofTimewaste24 жыл бұрын
@@dr.baldskin I'm assuming the planes in question are not passenger planes, but fighter planes, in which case, not necessarily.
@johnberba68174 жыл бұрын
@@dr.baldskin it's actually more common than it seems. After flying at an unusual attitude, your body adapts to it and eventually assumes you are level. While being completely inverted is probably tougher to ignore, a lot of times the plane could be partially rolled to the side and you wouldn't notice after a while. This becomes really dangerous as it makes it difficult to discern the horizon by simply looking at it, especially at night. It might lead you to make corrections that might actually make things worse, which is why we're taught to trust the instruments.
@F0X_H0UND4 жыл бұрын
I would've thought that the sensation of blood rushing to your head due to being upside down would've been a good indicator of that, but I'm no pilot, so I don't know.
@SirNarax4 жыл бұрын
@@dr.baldskin Not really. It is actually really common among pilots, now a days you have instruments to counteract this effect as well as just being more informed about it but it still happens. The problem is when standing on the ground you think gravity to be pretty intuitive and concrete but it can be easily overpowered warping your perception of up and down. You might ask "well the blood rushing to their head surely would get them to know" well when accelerating and traveling at these sorts of speeds it isn't so noticeable. Not only that but flying upside down is not something you do hundreds of miles before you see a flying mountain. You start to fall. Am I above that cloud or below? The sea looks like the sky until you get close, knowing something is wrong a pilot may instinctively pull up not immediately knowing where they are in space and dive. Spatial Disorientation is what you may want to google if you want to see some images that show you it in effect. It is not only roll but position as well. The human mind is so easily fooled and an Airplane will throw every physical, auditory and visual illusion at you. In short it is caused by illusions that trick the pilot into thinking everything is alright even if there were contradicting information.
