I used Leo and his colleagues at the long defunct Micromart to spec my first PC, that must be twenty years ago now. Finding him on KitGuru a decade or so later was all I needed to immediately subscribe. Autofocus worked well, but there were some artifacts. The LCD panel was really cool. Thank you for the insights, we used to have our own version many years ago end of 90s. Not as big of course, but gave me nostalgic feelings. These days you can hardly surprise anyone, except with stuff at these big exhibitions.

You raised an excellent question - what would be required for AMD to be able to use the new fastest RAM, like DDR5 8,000MT/s? Could existing hardware (motherboard and CPU) combination be upgraded with downloaded firmware? Or is the current AMD stuck at 6,400MT/s max? Is the limiting factor for RAM speed in the CPU, motherboard or both?

Fix the AMD memory controller. I think that is a hardware problem new firmware is unlikely to fix; the memory controller wasn't great shakes on AM4 either. AMD probably need to put other people on the problem; I think it needs fresh minds hired from elsewhere.

@@stevewatson6839 so is it a hardware issue JUST on the CPU? If it's also a motherboard issue then spending £700 on a RAM speed restricted, zero future proof, motherboard seems insane, so Im very keen to find this out BEFORE I buy into an AMD platform. Thanks.

@@TimLongson The memory controller was moved onto the CPU yonks ago by both AMD and Intel. Intel's Controller is atm a lot better. For the best memory performance on either you should look for a two slot only board. Populating two slots only probably works too; but I'd see what Buildzoid has to say. Buildzoid @Actually Hardcore Over Clocking is probably the best place for current state of play on memory and memory controllers. He also does run-downs on mobos and their feature sets. One to Bookmark for sure. I'd start there; from what you are asking here, you v. probably won't have to look further.

It almost certainly boils down to Infinity Fabric as the memory clock is used at system level and not 'only' for memory control. AMD has made great strides in this area and I fully expect Zen 5 to make further progress. Leo

I am British myself, so I hope this channel will deal with prices and gadgets that are British as well as American or Japanese. Things I do not want to see are, Sponsor butt-licking, A load of crap about RGB lighting.
