This is the year I change from my Pro M Glass & I''m liking the look of the NV7! I've bought a returned PSU that didn't come with any stock cables, so definitely looking forward to the option. Especially with all the different configs for newer cases, custom length cables are becoming more of a necessity than a luxury. If phanteks makes a T30 140mm I might be swayed but for now I am sticking with my AF120 and T30s lol.

I like 140mm fans. I’m not so fussed about my PSU cables, I have a revolt power supply and I’m happy with the original cables and use enough of them that it doesn’t feel wasteful.
@tomquimby8669 Жыл бұрын
Those non cable power supplies are a really good idea, They can enhance the idea by just supplying the Pcb and components so you can built it yourself and then search the local hardware store for some extruded aluminum mesh to make a case for it. Having to search the internet for a local supplier of cables just adds to the joy and time it take to get your pc build together.
@se4223 Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure they'll offer two versions; one with cables and one without. The whole point is to reduce waste for consumers that are planning to purchase a cablemod kit separately.

I only buy 140mm fans, which is why I didn't buy the NV7 and recently bought the C750. I actually would buy a cableless PSU, if the cables came out to be reasonable. I already hate how expensive PSUs are, with no down trajectory on prices. No PSU I buy is going to be full price, so that also dictates if I'd buy a cableless PSU. Extension cables also work with any PSU, so if i then go buy an EVGA PSU later, I can still use those extensions instead of being forced to dump the cables or buy another Seasonic/Phanteks PSU.

I was disappointed by the lack of space on the side panel of the nv7 for various controllers. I built using lian li fans, nzxt usb hub, lian li strimers, and corsair aio and it was a struggle to find room for the controllers. I barely got the side panel to close and had to forgo using the commander core and lighting node to link everything together using 1 software to control the rgb (icue). That's crazy to say because the case is almost as tall as an IKEA Alex drawer when they're side by side. Hopefully the NV9 has more space in the side panel area, but I know for sure the evo xl will have the space to accommodate all the controllers because I have completed linking everything in icue before in the evo. I think the main thing that got in the way in the nv7 side was the door panel with the 4 rods behind the mobo, if those rods weren't there it could have been more space for mounting a controller. Another thing that didn't make sense to me was on the cable routing pathways at the rear weren't thick enough for a psu cable lol. I used a 1300w evga and that psu cable snapped the plastic pathway apart, well it fits in the pathway now lol. Lastly, no dust filter for the side intake pulling in unfiltered air. I don't know about using only 3 bottom intakes and 8 exhaust fans (11 with push pull top exhaust), the thermals are scary with 6 intake and 5 exhaust (8 with push pull top exhaust).

140mm! The whole reason why I didn't consider to upgrade my Evolv X for NV7 is because there wasn't enough space to move my 420 rad in new case...

I prefer 140mm fans but 120s are okay - as for PSU with/without cables - I'd like to get them with cables but a choice of cable style/length - so essentially without but you add them at the point of sale and buy them all at once/together so you're not waiting on part of your power system before you can build.
@TimLongson Жыл бұрын
Definitely a 140mm fan - they move more air, so can result in much quieter setups, whilst making less noise and using less power to move the same volume as smaller fans. I would only ever use relatively slim 420mm or 560mm radiators, for great cooling whilst also making far less noise than say a thick 360mm radiator with dense radiator folds trying to match it. In the fans and radiator world, bigger, but thinner, is the best for quiet and power efficient.

I'd be willing to buy a PSU without cables so long as I would be guaranteed to get just the ones I need that would work with it (lord alone knows how many unused PSU cables I have lying around after all these years). As for fans, I prefer 140mm since they can move more air at slower speed and therefore be quieter than 120mm.
@Bigdog1787 Жыл бұрын
I prefer 140m fans if the case will look good with them and won't restrict the air too much as some restrict it quite a bit because they prefer you use 120s. As for power supply without cables that's a hard one never purchased modded cables I would prefer modded they look far better just it be a headache to figure out sizing. I do know on these they have cable mod prefab cable lengths for some of their specific cases for these so that helps for sure. Power supplies cheap already though so I think I'd rather have cables with it with the same normal option still to go modded as most it just be too much of a headache to get modded.
@F14Mavrick Жыл бұрын
I am all about bigger fans. 140mm for me. yes I would buy a PSU without cables as it gives me more options. If I wanted one with cables, plenty of options to choose from. However, the biggest downside I can see buying a PSU without cables is that if cable mod custom makes your cables and they pin something incorrectly you will not have a good way to troubleshoot. Yes I have known people and personal experience that I have gotten wrong pinout on power cables from cable mod. Not a big deal for me as I have the tools to re-pin correctly. But for someone that does not know nor has the tools, they can think that it is a problem with the hardware and not the cables.

Am I the only one who's not a fan of these dual chamber(?), front and side TG cases trend? The plenty of glass type, something like 011 and H9 type of cases. Recently, most of the newer cases are like this. I really want more traditional looking cases. Granted, I would say that when compared to similar looking cases, Phanteks NV series looks the best.
@rhymingbecktionary Жыл бұрын
I thought the industry had come to the agreement that larger fans are generally better assuming they're the same build quality since you can either move more air at the same noise level as smaller fans, or move the same amount of air at a much lower noise level. On the topic of fans I really don't really like the move to only accommodating 140mm fans on the more expensive/larger NV cases. I feel like in the past Phanteks gave a lot more options for fan sizes and mounting at all price levels/case sizes.

Love the coverage ... but ... As an old timer, I am lamenting the lac of "regular" PC hardware on offer. Instead, we keep seeing high-grade and/or "enthusiast" level hardware that is expensive and, generally speaking, fills a pretty niche market. Sure, this is a great showcase for all the new, snazzy stuff, but the vast majority of PC users are not in the market for the high end stuff, especially not in the current economic downturn. Sure, let's see the snazzy stuff, but can we please see the stuff that many more PC users can afford and are likely to buy. When I go to a car show, it's nice to see the new Mercedes sports car, the high end BMW and such-like, but I am more interested in what the new Ford has to offer.

The NV7 seems completely pointless compared to the NV9 and the case is only 2 months old. NV9 allows you to utilize three 420 radiators, 140 fans in every fan spot, better cable management, able to use just as many 120 fans as the NV7, and is only slightly larger. NV7 just seems like a cheap cash grab now after announcing a better version of the case only 2 months after its release
@QuentinStephens Жыл бұрын
I would be very wary about buying a PSU without cables as cables are generally not interchangeable. Further, if the PSU doesn't work I now have to fight two companies each blaming the other.
