From the book The Spiritual Lives of the Great Composers: George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759) ‘A servant of Handel swings the door open to Handel’s room. The startled composer, tears streaming down his face, turns to his servant and cries out, “I did think I did see all Heaven before me, and the great God Himself.” Handel had just finished writing a movement, which would take its place in history as the Hallelujah Chorus.’ Handel became a ransomer for other debtors in prison. One of his biographers declared: Messiah… has fed the hungry, clothed the naked, fostered the orphan… more than any other single musical production in this or any country. Lord Kinnoul once congratulated him on his fine performance, to which Handel replied: My lord, I should be sorry if I only entertained them. I wish to make them better. Haydn, Bach, Mozart and Beethoven all considered Handel the greatest composer ever and they said: He is the master of us all.” Haydn about Handel Handel is the greatest composer that ever lived. Beethoven about Handel And when he referred to an edition of Handel’s works he said: “There is the truth.” [Handel] is the only person I would wish to see before I die, and the only person I would wish to be, were I not Bach.” (Bach about Handel) To which Mozart exclaimed: Truly, I would say the same myself if I were permitted to put in a word. But what was Handel’s response to all this adulation? In 1759, whilst receiving a rapturous ovation after his last performance he cried out: Not from me… but from Heaven… comes all.” And as he was nearly blind and ailing he expressed his desire that he would die on Good Friday “in the hope of rejoining the good God, my sweet Lord and Saviour, on the day of His resurrection”. He died on Easter Saturday. Handel is buried in the graveyard of Westminster Abbey next to another Christian, the writer, Charles Dickens. Above his grave are the words: “I know that my Redeemer liveth.”

That's classical music, it is the only kind of music the moth of time cannot destroy, because it's divinely inspired by God. All other kinds of music, apart from classical and Hymns will only last for a certain period of time no matter how many generations may enjoy listening to it but it will pass whilst classical music will always be liked and loved by generations yet unborn.

How this does not have more views is beyond me! Mozart said “Handel understands affect better than any of us. When he chooses, he strikes like a thunder bolt.” On the other hand, to Beethoven he was “the master of us all… the greatest composer that ever lived. I would uncover my head and kneel before his tomb”. I've always considered Handel top 3 IMO. Such beauty and honesty in his master pieces.

Hear what Handel said about his own music and what other greats said about him from these excerpts from the book The Spiritual Lives of the Great Composers: George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759) ‘A servant of Handel swings the door open to Handel’s room.

Handel's music fills my soul with exuberance, solitude and spiritual awareness. In my opinion his compositions are perfectly suited for me and how I hear the world around me. His music cuts through the ugly noise of present day music and the culture that has evolved from those who cannot hear, see or feel.

Georg Friedich Haendel ou Händel (Georges Frideric Handel en anglais comme il l'écrivait lui-même) compositeur allemand, devenu sujet britanique décédé à Londre le 14 avril 1759 à l'age de 74 ans. Ses œuvres principales : Water Music en 1717, Giulio Cesare 1724, Messie 1741, Music for the Royal Fireworks 1749. Un des tous grands compositeurs de musique Baroque un vrais bonheur.

In order to get my two parakeets to chirp, I play classical music. Do they enjoy it or are they begging me to turn it up? (Maybe off) I adore listening to classical, and the blues when studying or just to do chores around my home. Yes I do listen to rock and pop now and then (in my car) but so few genera beats classical. :)

My parakeets generally enjoy pop, but today I switched them to a jazz/classical music station. Charlie (the one who sings the most) went quiet for a few seconds, like "what is this???" and started chirping contentedly. They like it.

Am I the only one irritated by the 5-6 ads on this video? I mean, an ad when the video first starts is annoying, but five of them?? I just want some great music to listen to while i study...

I think we are all irritated - but it's the price one has to pay! The banality of such advertising is indeed heightened coming as it does, suddenly thrust upon ears that are listening to such beautiful music, The only consolation one has is to remember that had we been born in Haendel's non electronic age it is doubtful whether we would have had opportunity ever to hear such music - and even if we did it would be a one-off experience or at least one not to be repeated for a very long time.
