He was in full blown OCD and could hardly control himself at this point, but he took on Congress and opened up a 100 gallon can of whoop-ass on them. That, kids, is brilliance and composure at its finest.

I think early on after titanic a lot of people pegged decaprio as a pretty boy who could make girls swoon, but not really act. But I agree, he turned into a very good actor. He was brilliant in The Aviator, and he was also great in Catch Me If You Can.

Amen. Lincoln was a Republican. Hughes would be as disgusted with corruption today as he was then... I don't think Hughes would respect many if any of todays politicians... I have never felt or been a patriotic individual. But there is something about Hughes that makes me truly feel "now THAT is a real American"... But sadly those times are LONG gone...

This is some amazing historical footage Christopher. There will never be another like him ... "most" people think of Howard Hughes as some rich eccentric billionaire that wound up in a drug crazed state, sheltered away in a hotel room, with his long hair and nails wasting his life away watching old movies. He was a brilliant man; innovator, engineer, visionary, and had the courage & bravery of a warrior. Sadly, these traits were the reason for his early demise. I personally feel the plane crash in Beverly Hills was most responsible for his cognitive decline, without which, he possibly could have lived a normal extended life. Thanks for sharing these and I look forward to seeing more ... Dino

Late in his life, due to Obsessive Compulsive disease cronic pain from injuries in airplane crashes, and hearing disorders, he did give the impression of being mentally unstable. But earlier in his life he was a brilliant visionary, one of the best representatives of the american entrepenour, before the IT revolution revived the tradition.
@trauma4465
@trauma4465 6 жыл бұрын
Late in his life was when the drugs got really bad, But in all fairness you can't blame him. After that nasty plane crash he was in constant pain. And when you have that kind of money you can get just about anything too ease your pain. It was really the combination of Drugs and major OCD that messed him up.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH CHRISTOPHER--- this is awesome--- Howard was such a brilliant and super soul that had great knowledge to help mankind in life((really)) and HE KNEW-- even tho other minds didn't--that the communists had their silent machines on the American People and even on him-- Today as you now know --the KGB and damned communists were secretly in America -- in great hiding and using their mind control gadgets...THAT IS WHY HOWARD HAD TIN FOIL OVER HIS WINDOWS-- -- kept the Elec -Mag. waves out of his room.. Much was going on in secret silence that many are not aware of-- read some of the books out and they explain.. after the war -- they really brought in communist scientists- made matters much worse in America..

Lady Grimstah well, id say my father is the greatest man ever, but maybe that's just me. Certainly no man alive could match his honesty, integrity, and dedication to family and doing right by all. Altruism is very very real, and its face is my father. So he's the greatest, but Hughes was also pretty damn great.

Great series of videos. It adds much more to the story to see and hear Hughes. Thank you for being willing to share these news films. Strange, that the congressional committee (Brewster) line of obnoxious questioning and pompous posturing was the same then as it is today. What a bunch of losers. Glad to see Hughes standing up to them and exposing Brewster as trying to extort him into merging TWA with Pan AM and taking free plane trips. That was when Hughes won. Thanks again.

Howard Hughes lived in the Desert Inn 9th floor penthouse from November 1966 to November 1970. My first trip to Las Vegas was in August 1970 and I remember observing that all the windows of the Desert Inn's 9th floor was covered with tin foil. When I asked a local why the windows were covered with tin foil I was informed the Desert Inn was owned by Howard Hughes and he resided full time in the 9th floor penthouse. When I asked why the tin foil on all the windows I was told it was because Hughes was a nut who never left the penthouse and he wanted it that way so nobody could see in. I remember wondering what the hell does he do in there behind those tin foil covered windows never leaving ..... having no idea he was living in filth, rarely bathing and collecting his urine in jars.

He had OCD which was not treatable at the time. So, yes, he had a mental illness. But he was not insane, at least not completely incognizant of his eccentricities. Insanity is a legal term pertaining to a defendant's ability to determine right from wrong when a crime is committed. He was eccentric, but quite sane. OCD is a very frustrating condition.

first, he was a designer, he designed the XF-11, and second, according to the FAA investigation the crash of the XF-11 wasn't a mistake from the pilot, it was a mechanical failure (An oil leak caused the right-hand propeller controls to lose their effectiveness and the rear propeller subsequently reversed its pitch, disrupting that engine's thrust) The second prototype was flown on 5 April 1947 by Howard with no problems.

The recent biography by Darwin Porter is 800 pages that detail Hughes' lifelong bisexual nature. His pursuit of Hollywood's most handsome men has finally been revealed. His interest in women is also detailed in all it's intensity. Remember that he lived in the age where being gay was illegal. Porter's book documents many people that personally knew Hughes and were aware his romantic interest in handsome men.

I always wondered where the rest of the film from this is. It was filmed by several cameras and went on for days. It should all be recorded, so what happened to the footage? I would love to be able to watch the entire proceeding or if anyone has a complete transcript. The longest I have ever found was 21 minutes long of strictly audio and it was edited and therefore biased. I wish someone would find the original film and present it in a historical archive format.
