Howard Hughes should be remembered as an adventurer, an innovator, someone who had a great vision for the future and has left a great legacy. It's a genius.

Such an extraordinary man. I find it particularly interesting that his drive and obsession to detail and pushing beyond the boundaries which was the foundation to his success was greatly linked to what would be considered as mental illness. Had he not had OCD or hypomania he would not have accomplished half of what he did.

I love this Howard Hughs stuff. A real "F-You" kind of guy, and not affraid to say it to someones face! A strange man, but a real man.

there was nothing strange about him, he was as sane as you could get, compared to the usual blind sheep of society

It's no surprise that historians and media have painted Howard Hughes as a nutball recluse after he kicked the Senate committee in the crotch. In fact, most of the eccentric behavior he's famous for has logical explanations. His injuries caused him incredible pain, so much so that the weight of clothing was excruciating. Anybody with gout knows what this is like. His hearing loss caused him to steer clear of social gatherings and crowds. Better to appear a hermit than look a fool in public. OCD can be overblown. Lots of people have very minor OCD behavior. People who are intensely focused and goal-driven tend to exhibit more, so not much of a surprise that this man exhibited quite a bit of OCD. Add the stress of Pan-Am and politicians trying to destroy everything you've worked for, and it'd be a miracle for anyone to hold up.

What about sittin in that theater all day collecting jars of his urine and trying strings everywhere?
@Overton_Windows5 жыл бұрын
Dustin Tacohands he wasn’t “collecting urine”, he was pissing in milk bottles because that theater had no bathroom. Plenty of people live without bathrooms and piss in jars. Not saying it’s normal, but it’s not as abnormal as people make it out to be. Him screening film after film is virtually no different than a pain patient watching television all day. Far as the strings. I’ve got no answer there. Yes, he suffered from mental illness. But that’s not exactly uncommon either. Not sure if you’ve looked at the world around you. I know I have and personally I think anyone not disturbed are equally if not more crazy.

James Rhett Kennedy > That's interesting and it might explain a good deal about Hughes. Over the years, even when Hughes was sitting naked, filthy and full of codeine in blacked-out hotel rooms, he was able to conduct complex business dealings over the phone.< Something about that picture doesn't ring true. Maybe HH was comatosed and kept on life-support while someone [CIA?] played Monopoly with his cheque book. Those broken hypo needles inside his arms also disturb me ... was he struggling while they were giving him the knock-out drugs? A billionaire that no-one ever saw, who always had his rooms windows blacked out (even when he travelled) and who communicated with his staff, and others, over a phone? How would be prove he didn't die early and some meme portrayed him ffor the next decades?

"The Aviator" (movie) really blows. This footage clearly shows Leonardo looks NOTHING like Howard let alone probably a foot and a half shorter ! Tommy Lee Jones was way more convincing in "The Amazing Howard Hughes" (1977).
