That Jaguar was fabulous. Had the model of it as a child. Happy memories, life passes all too quickly.

I used to love this when I was a kid, not realising it was really the height of cheesiness! The music is more dramatic than the action! But somehow it is so compelling to watch! And the XJS hasn't lost its grace, even now.

I wasn't born when Sir Roger Moore played Simon Templar so for me Ian Ogilvy will always be Simon Templar...that and the fact what made this Simon Templar was that he drove a Jaguar XJS.

I can't believe this show is rated 94% by Google. It was one of my favourite even though I had one of the Simon Templar books by Leslie Charteris written in the 30s. This show rocketed Ian Ogilvy into international superstardom

I still love the series and I remember they used to screen on Sunday nights at 7:15 pm in 1978/79 in the Autumn and Winter evenings. It`s still available as a DVD boxed set by Network DVD.

Such a cool show for 1978/79 I really wish the series went on for longer, only two seasons. Ian Ogilvy was fantastic as Simon Templar and would have made a great James Bond, and as for the gorgeous Jaguar XJ-S, what a beautiful car. So suits the era. I wish they’d make TV dramas like this now, but they wouldn’t know how.

Only one season, actually, but a long one for a British show - 24 episodes. It's unclear why the show never got a second season. It was successful all over the world, except America where it failed to get a regular time slot. The lack of success in America is generally considered the reason for it getting canned. However, it could been due to Lord Grade wanting to spend the money on big-screen movie projects (which subsequently failed) and the general expense of the show.

Always rated Ian as an actor, this should have been a massive springboard into a hugely successful film, television carear, it's one of life's great injustices, ians carear wasn't hugely successful, because to cap it all off he was typecast by the success of this show, its a crime tbf

There was more than one XJS used for shooting as observed by kokons3 withdifferent interior colours. According to Ian Ogilvy, a technician from Jaguar was always on the set trying to get the car to run properly, which is probably why he looked terrified when starting the car.

My uncle has one of the actual XJS cars from this show , he worked for BL publicity and marketing in the 70`s and the 3 cars used for filming were sold off , sadly its no longer roadworthy but a car magazine are about to do a feature on it !

I am a huge Roger Moore fan but I gotta say I loved Ian as the saint as well, He looked and sounded just like Roger, but he did alot more action wise, and he gave Templer a harder edge, Classic.

I'm sure this will be fodder for much debate, but, I rather liked "Village That Sold Its Soul". The script was right out of a Leslie Charteris novella. Templar assisting in Divine retribution (that steely look when the miscreant fell off the mountain, perfect!) As The Saint set his jaw, and his eyes turned to blue ice when Dolores Strasso died in his arms, that scene captured Simon Templar's steely avenging spirit perfectly! (Watching the white Jaguar race down a dangerous mountain road added the sufficient level of adrenaline as well!

It felt much grittier and more hard-boiled than the Roger Moore series for sure (also with elegant photography). There's a real, compelling sense of danger to much of this series that outclassed many detective tv rounds at the time. Ogilvy could have made a very good James Bond and he was actually a contender for the role in those days.
