Am I the only one who thinks BOTH actresses who portrayed Rose nailed the role perfectly?

No, I also think so. I like the second rose, but I also liked the first...I think the second Rose may have played up the sexuality better, but the first Rose played the desperation better.

May both Roses rest well. The second Rose was actually a very devout Christian woman in real life and I thought it was great how she played the floozy on the show. Rest well, ladies. Y'all've made me laugh many times over these years.

'Our Rose'...both Actresses gave a valid and delicious interpretation to the character....but felt that the 2nd 'Rose' was more what American audiences would expect from an English Actress portraying such. a 'loose canon in Perpetual Love, with Love'...and the 2nd one, did remind me of 2, or 3 of my also Gay Buddies---who ranted on, every Sunday Afternoon about some Married man they hooked-up with at the Clubs, on Saturday Night....Love the lot of 'em..

@stan ochocki I’m American and totally preferred Shirley Stelfox in the part. Mary was excellent too. I’m not knocking her in any way, but I think it’s funnier when characters are cast against type. Mary’s Rose was written to be more of the cliched blond bombshell. We’ve seen that in comedies a million times though. Shirley was edgier. She didn’t physically look like the kind of woman who’d have multiple boyfriends and love affairs. That was the joke of her Rose, and the incongruity of it was funnier to me. Wish Shirley had appeared in at least half of the total series. She and Mary each brought a different take and different humor to the role. My sensibility always leans toward the less obvious which is why I usually find British humor funnier than American.

Both actresses portrayed Rose quite differently, and both versions were wonderful. Shirley' Stelfox played a deadpan, more serious, more toned-down version of Rose. Mary Millar's Rose was a more ditsy, playful, Blanch-Devereaux type of Rose. Both did an exceptional job playing Rose, but I'm more inclined to say I like Mary Millar's Rose more because a) her Rose is funnier to me, b) there's 4x more of her Rose and c) she was my first Rose (I think the first episode I've ever seen was either mid-2nd or mid-third season). My favorite Rose moment is of course - Rose: Knees. If I'm going to be a nun I should be on me knees. Richard: It's me that'll be on my knees. Rose: Oh, Richard wants to be a nun, too! Richard: She's surprisingly heavy for a short-skirted person. Then the end, when she's caught with the Vicar. Rose: It's alright, I'm going to be a nun! The whole episode is great, but the last 8 minutes of The Unfortunate Prospect of Early Retirement are pure brilliance.
