Episode Notes:
1. Captured on the Mega SD/SG combo.
2. You'll notice in Thunderstrike the mini-map is glitched out. I'm not sure if this was a Mega SG or SD issue exactly.
3. Some of these selections could be flipped and I wouldn't have an issue with it. In fact, I had a hell of a time deciding between Shining Force CD and Dark Wizard in that category.
4. With my Wondermega repaired and operation again, I believe I will start capturing from real hardware again. The convenience of the Mega SG/SD is awesome, but I ran into a few sound and graphical issues making this video that really irritated me.
5. Final Fight CD tends to be around $50 in Japan. Less than half a complete US release.
6. Road Rash is a pain to capture from the Sega CD. The licensed music has to be turned way way down to keep the copyright hounds at bay.
7. This episode was a massive undertaking. More than 30 minutes, it took nearly 40 hours to make.

Final Fight CD is so much better than the SNES version, too bad Sega CD wasn't on my radar back then, and even if I wanted one I wouldn't have been able to afford one. I was able to get on the Sega Saturn train though. I'm just now re-visiting the Sega CD library over the last few years thanks in large part to Sega Lord X videos👍

Well it has coop, all 6 levels, all 3 playable characters and more than 3 enemies on the screen at a time so yeah of course it’s better than the snes version which was just capcom being cheap by not using a bigger memory cartridge to at least fit coop in the game

A wonderful time where 2-3 kids with an idea could get funding and development hardware to create a bold, innovative game that changed the way we look at games. 3D effects were generated with horizontal interrupts, scanline counters, and crude scaling. That reminds me. Your father would've wanted you to have a Sega CD. A more elegant weapon for a more civilized age. For over a thousand generations, the nerd-velopers were the guardians of peace and justice in the old republic. Before the dark times. Before the PlayStation.

Congratulations on the video Sega Lord X! No doubt alot of blood, sweat and tears went into making this, well done. Just wanna point out some things like the Formula 1 racing game ''Beyond The Limit'' or ''Heavenly Symphony'' in Japan. I noticed there was no footage of that game in your video and I fully understand not all games were going to be included, but that game has some of the best scaling and rotation i've ever seen on the system. My most favourite F1 racing game of all time! Also the Core Design Mega Drive/Genesis games such as ''Chuck Rock'' and ''Wolfchild''on the add-on included extra levels and in some cases the same levels were extended to make a larger, longer playing experience, tis was briefly mentioned in the video but not those specific titles. Awesome video, loved watching it.

So many amazing games i missed out on and now am finding out and learning about and giving second chances too. Back in the day (im 40) we rediculed Sega CD and laughed at its VMV games but as an adult, i appreciate it now and its history and what it tried to do. When my mates and I saw the first live demo, it was simply amazing, animation and speech coming from a game was just incredible, then to hear cd music was unbelievable. In 94, I was very fortunate to win a to play and compete in the sega championships, coming first for state and runners up for Australia. Winning a sega cd and games along the way. What a fantastic time it was for gaming back then you just get the same feeling for today games, like you did back in the day.

You’re the MVP of the Sega community on KZbin. You’re always fair, balanced and just have a calming presence that works well so that when you get enthusiastic, it makes things stand out well. I thought I knew my Sega games, but thanks to you, I got so much more mileage out of my Saturn, with games that are now favorites of mine like Bulk Slash and Kieyo’s Flying Squadron, among many others. You also mentioned superb hacks for the Genesis, such as Mortal Kombat Arcade Edition, which is now easily the best looking and playing version of Mortal Kombat on consoles of that era, including the Sega CD version. The color hacks video put me on to how good Final Fight for the Sega CD could look, and your 32x games reviews were also very fair, highlighting how better ports of some of those games have been made by many of the talented artists and coders in thr Sega fan community. All I can say is thanks! I was the only person in my friends group with a Sega Saturn until 9th grade, where my track team had a gaming party we’d throw after practice on the school AV system, playing Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop 1-2, Street Fighter Alpha 2, and Sega Rally 2. I remember PS1 owning friends finally understanding why we loved the Saturn. The other cool thing about being the Sega lover on my block as a kid was getting to play the Nintendo systems at my friends houses, then they’d get a different experience at mine. My friend had his birthday recently, I’ve known him since 1st grade, he too loved Sega, so we’d trade carts, but he lived about 8 mins by bike ride, and I couldn’t ride over there too late as a kid. He had an arcade party in 3rd grade, and we took an updated photo with each other playing TMNT arcade, as well as house of the dead, despite that one coming out much later on, given that his wife rented some classic arcade machines for his birthday party. His son finally had a chance to play some of the games we grew up with, and it was amazing. He said he’d never play House of the Dead ever again after beating it with me on free to play mode, then a girl that lives next door to him came by and asked him to play it and he played through the whole game again. He’s young so he loved how overly campy it was, and despite the old school 3D graphics, it hit me as to how stunning it still looked on the perfectly crisp, refurbished CRT screen it had. Despite the age of the graphics, and the green blood, he had a few jump scares from it. Another cool thing is, despite not growing up with Sonic, he loves the movie. It’s a strangely good time to be a Sega fan, it’s almost surreal. It’s even crazier to see Sega poke fun at themselves with the appearance of Uncanny Valley Ugly Sonic in the Chip N Dale’s Rescue Rangers Disney Plus movie, which was surprisingly good.

The list you put together was just great. Now sure some of my favorites didn't make your cut, but I totally see why you would choose some of the games you did. Awesome video, Sega Lord X! This actually was something I needed. The Sega CD was such an underrated system! I only grew up with a Genesis, but never got to experience a Sega CD as a kid. Recently, I've been diving into the Sega CD to see what I missed out on and didn't know where to begin. I appreciate your summary of great Sega CD games to check out. Some of these games I have never heard of before, but they look really fun! The only Sega CD game I played as a kid was Sonic CD, but I played the version ported to the PC. I replayed Sonic CD on the Sega CD recently and I loved it even more now than I did as a kid. It may be my favorite Sonic game ever and I even grew up with the Sonic trilogy on the Genesis.

I mean to be completely honest, Road Rash was the best racing game on any system it was on. I mean yes I wish the Sega CD version was like the PS1, 3DO, & Saturn versions but for what it was (Road Rash 3 with the new version soundtrack) it was still good. Right before I played it I'd just a week before beaten Road Rash 3 on Genesis so it was like a fresh look at a game I wish had more levels, like a RR3 expansion pack

I remember getting my sega cd as a Jr. High kid and I was blown away. Everybody that came over to see it I would pop in Sewer Shark and everyone was blown away. FMV on a home console, just unbelievable. I know now it looks bad and cheesy but that game has so many memories tied to it ill always love it and still play it from time to time still today. I have a series x and PS5 today but they couldn't give the absolute joy that my sega cd brings.

My first experience with SEGA was truly amazing and I will NEVER forget that day! I was born in 89 while my bro was 86.. I was around 2-3 years old in 91-92 so Christmas we got an SNES packed with Super Mario World along with Donkey Kong Country separately..I loved it and me being so young I didn’t have a clue there was another option known as Sega..UNTIL a year later when me, my bro, & Dad dropped off his friend at his house after playing basketball who happened to love video games to..He asked my Dad if we had time to come inside and check something “cool” out with a grin on his face..(My dad & his friend planned this beforehand as a surprise) My dad says “nah we better head to the house” knowing me and & my brother will say “But dad, we won’t stay long” & “Yeah Dad! I promise we won’t stay long!”PLEASE! To our surprise my dad obliges and looks at us with a stern look “10 mins and we have to go”..We go inside and his friend said he was gonna use the bathroom real quick..A few minutes later he walked out with a model 1 Genesis with the first Sonic and MK1..I was speechless and words can’t describe the excitement of seeing a brand new system at that age! He asked if we wanted to take it home and try it out and ended up letting us keep it! The same exact Genesis is hooked up as we speak and due to him being so nice and giving us the Genesis it led to us following Sega which led to my Dad purchasing A Sega CD not to long after and I fell in love with the SEGA CD and holds a special place in my heart and has such a unique charm to it! Sadly, my dad’s friend recently passed away and it has not even been a year yet 😢 I’m so glad I still have the Genesis he gave us and have something to remember him by! I miss and love you Uncle Kenny!

I agree with you about the Sega CD. I also bought it early on and always enjoyed playing the games. All the games you chose were great, but there were still so many others you could have picked. There were plenty of great games for it. Mistakes were made, and opportunities were missed, but I don’t consider it a failed system in any way. I was in my 20’s when it came out and my friends and I all bought one. No regrets. I love it to this day, and along with the Genesis and Saturn, it’s still my most frequently played system. As you succinctly put it, it was under appreciated. Thanks for the video full of some great memories for me.

I sincerely appreciate your list and reviews of the SegaCD specially for the fact that you experienced the platform on its heyday. I would like to add to your list the category "Japan Only" and I definetively would say that "Captain Tsubasa CD" is the best. It's like a soccer game mixed with RPG gameplay, it mimmicks quite well the experience of watching an episode of the anime, and I couldn't tell you how amazed I was discovering a Captain Tsubasa (or "Supercampeones" if you are from Latam like me) game was officially released on the platform

Oh man, that brings me back such great old souvenirs! I spent hours playing awesome games like Night Trap (writing lists of room to finish the game). Also Double Switch, Ground Zero Texas, Dune (with voices. I was in French) World War 3 (super awesome). I had a version called CD X, which was a compact version of the Genesis, and Sega CD together. Rise of the dragon: "Everybody calls me: THE JAKE!", "No weapon detected. You're clean. Go on in"

This was an awesome list. The only area I might argue is the Sports games. I would put Nba Jam and NHL 94 as best game and runner up and you could go either way. Both games are incredible and the best ports of their respective game.

NHL ‘94 for Mega CD is one of the greatest sports games ever crafted. Amazed it didn’t occupy the top spot. I’d put NBA Jam as runner up too. And this is coming from someone who grew up in a country where Sensible Soccer ruled supreme back in the day (and yes, I still love that game too)

These are games few people played when they came out; it’s a tough system to collect for; and it’s safe to say Sega will never release a Sega CD Mini. It’s up to people like you to champion these games and people will have to play them anyway they can.

The CD is something I believe has value as an add-on for the Genesis; I would personally do without most of the FMV games and request an increase in color, but the hardware for some special games is there. The Terminator, Mickey Mania, Final Fight, Snatcher, Lunar: Eternal Blue, Mortal Kombat, Sonic CD, it had it all.

I got a MegaCD2 a few months before the Saturn arrived and I loved this extension of the 16bits. Most of the game you listed I got too and I'd add titles like "Power Monger" (I spent so many hours on that one), "Theme Park", "Prince of Persia", "Formula One World Championship: Beyond the Limit" and "Dune". This machine had excellent games for its time and Sega could have done great things with it, imagine what a compilation of ports of "Streets of Rage" could have done to the sales.
