But because some one like this self centered egoistical shallow person hypocrite exists, your beautiful county is becoming very famous in Japan. We love you. One day, I would like to come to visit such a beautiful place. Don't worry any words of violence like what I Raven said. Our love is stronger than any this kind of Hate. From Tokyo JAPAN with LOVE!!!

s article is about the demographic features of the population of the Faroe Islands, including population density, ethnicity, education level, health of the populace, economic status, religious affiliations and other aspects of the population. Faroese student in national costume. The vast majority of the population are ethnic Faroese, of North Germanic descent. Ethnic Faroese are, in genetic terms, among the most homogenous groups ever found. Recent DNA analysis have revealed that Y chromosomes, tracing male descent, are 87% Scandinavian.[1] The studies show that mitochondrial DNA, tracing female descent, is 84% Scottish / Irish.[2] Of the approximately 48,000 inhabitants of the Faroe Islands (16,921 private households (2004)), 98% are Danish realm citizens, meaning Faroese, Danish, or Greenlandic. By birthplace one can derive the following origins of the inhabitants: born on the Faroes 91.7%, in Denmark 5.8%, and in Greenland 0.3%. The largest group of foreigners are Icelanders comprising 0.4% of the population, followed by Norwegians and Poles, each comprising 0.2%. Altogether, on the Faroe Islands there are people from 77 different nationalities. The Faroe Islands have the highest rate of adoption in the world, despite a relatively high fertility rate of 2.6 children. [1] Faroese is spoken in the entire country as a first language. It is not possible to say exactly how many people worldwide speak the Faroese language. The 2011 census, called Manntal, shows that 10% were not born in the Faroe Islands, but of these only 3% were born outside the Kingdom of Denmark. 6.5% of people older than 15 did not speak Faroese as their mother tongue. 33 persons said that they did not understand Faroese at all.[3] According to the 2011 census, 45 361 Faroese people (people living in the Faroes) spoke Faroese as their first language and 1546 spoke Danish as their first language. The Faroese language is one of the smallest of the Germanic languages. It is most similar to Icelandic and Norwegian. In the twentieth century Faroese became the official language and since the Faroes are a part of the Danish realm Danish is taught in schools as a compulsory second language. Faroese language policy provides for the active creation of new terms in Faroese suitable for modern life. robinfist

English translation. It does not capture the rhythm or exact words, but it is as close to the original lyrics that I could get: --- I am still young and still in good spirits I need no birth certificate to prove that I do not remember my christening nor my crawling days Now I am old enough to understand what and why I will love I will sing I will embrace love I will look for the places where I will find the truth My life is my masterpiece I paint every day If I get to a hundred years it still will not be done The hope is that my picture a gentle shade will have When people all around the world acquire freedom for themselves I will love I will live I will sing peace songs With as many people who always... Will cry Will laugh Wish for peace in this world And with trust in one another Learn much from life

This song was made by a Faroese band called Frændur, written and composed in the 1980ies I think it was. It is very popular in the Faroe Islands. This is a new version arranged by Sigrid Sivertsen, sung by her choir Xperiment. The singer of Frændur who song this song is Steintór Rasmussen. You can see it / hear it in the Frændur version here on KZbin, if you search for "Lívsmynd", there is a video where they perform Lívsmynd at the Summerfestival in Klaksvík 2009

I am disappointed with the publishers comments of this video. Why after on after 900 years should the people of the Faroes give up something that feeds the nation of people. They don't need other culture to feed from. After all we Norse ruled a great many territories. We are great explorers and travelers. It is in our traditions it is who we are.

Would you respect the chinese tradition to eat tigerpenises? Im sure you dont, yet they argue with the same anthropocentric view as you do and it's morally just as despicable. Tradition is simply pressure from dead people. It's unnecessary to do this if you have supermarkets nowadays.

1. They are killing for food. 2. They way they kill the pilot whales is usually done by severing the top of the spinal cord, this is incredibly quick, far faster at killing the whale than most ways to hunt whales. And far faster than most fishing. 3. The number of Whales they are hunting is sustainable. 4. The reason why the water is so full of blood is because the spinal cord is severed, this is a very quick way to kill the whale also the hunts take place in shallow water, not out in the ocean. This creates a strong visual impact that is being politicised by groups like Greenpeace, to recruit more members. 5. Traditionally this was an essential food for almost all on the islands, today it is still essential for some but not all, however to claim that this whaling is unjust because it is not essential for all, is the same as saying that millions of people should stop eating fish because they could eat crops. 6. To claim that this is simply done for tradition is a lie... simple as that, it is done for food! 7. What Greenpeace and other groups are to an increasing extent doing is bringing intense international pressure onto a very small nation with a small population. To some extent this is tantamount to imperialism. Groups such as Greenpeace primarily recruit from parts of the world where the killing of animals is done out of sight and out of mind, and the vivid image of whaling in the Faroe islands is not something the majority of Europeans, Americans etc. are exposed to in fact it is not something that many people around the world see. To put huge international pressure upon these people because you don't like seeing animals being killed, whilst you live in a world were your friends, your doctor, your nurse, your local shop owners, your hairdresser and so on eat meat, is only hypocritical. You benefit from those people in society even if you yourself do not eat meat! To claim that the killing of animals in the Faroe islands is any worse than the killing of animals in Britain or America, or France etc. because the killing of animals is hidden is simply idiotic. 8. There is also an element of racial discrimination in the argument against this hunting, it is expected that because these people are white European and therefore Western looking that means that they must conform to Western norms. The reason behind this is that Western standards say than animal slaughters takes places out of sight and out of mind, and to deviate from these standards could only be justified if you were not Western, or if you were impoverished and had no choice. So because the Faroe islanders look western it is a way of hiding the imperialist element of the argument against this whaling. 9. To direct arguments against Faroese whaling at Denmark simply demonstrates the lack of understanding these against this activity have of the situation. The Faroese people have autonomy within the Kingdom of Denmark! They have home rule! Although some aspects still remain the responsibility of Denmark. 10. The argument against Faroese whaling is characterised by ignorance, imperialism, and a complete lack of comparison between this and other sorts of animal killing. There seems to be a general sense of snobbery from those against Faroese whaling against those who practice it.

***** The good people of the world would not prevent the Faeroe islanders from feeding themselves...

I do not claim that they depend exclusively on whale meat... To begin with there is only 3,000 hectares of arable land on the Faeroe Islands. www.nationmaster.com/red/country/fo-faroe-islands/agr-agriculture&all=1 This is roughly 7,413 Acres of land. Even if 1 Faeroe islander could survive from 1/2 an acre of land then only 14,826 Faeroe Islanders could survive without other food sources. The total population of the Faeroe Islands is estimated at roughly 48,000. So far we still need to feed another 33,174 people. The Faeroe islanders rely on fishing and pilot whale hunts to feed themselves. 8% of the fish that the Faeroe Islanders hunt are cod. www.hagstova.fo/portal/page/portal/SHARED/HAGSTOVA_MAIN_TEMPLATE/Faroe%20Islands%20in%20figures%202013.pdf (scroll to page 14) Cod population is dropping dramatically as highlighted by the World Wildlife Fund. wwf.panda.org/what_we_do/endangered_species/cod/ So hunting cod is increasingly unsustainable. Cod is also a part of pilot whale diet, so hunting cod reduces a food resource for pilot whales. 30 percent of what they fish is mackerel and 14 percent is herring, these are also fish that Pilot whales eat. Herring population has also been dropping in the north sea. www.thefishsite.com/articles/887/herring-stocks-in-the-north-sea There is also some concern over Mackerel population, as average catches have seen a steady drop in recent year, this is always an indication of a fall in fish population. www.thefishsite.com/articles/886/northeast-atlantic-mackerel-stocks Over fishing, herring or mackerel or cod will significantly affect Pilot whales and pilot whale number can only drop if their food resources drops. If however Pilot whales are hunted because pilot whales are at the top this food chain with the exception of humans, this helps to protect cod and mackerel, and herring populations. My conclusion is that a ban on hunting pilot whales will only increase the over fishing of other animals. This is not a constructive outcome.

***** Yes and I consider the desire of he Faeroe Islanders to live to be worth honoring, they must eat, and they cannot live of crops alone as demonstrated in my previous comment, they must kill animals so that they can live, in the same way that pilot whales kill animals so that they can live. Your quote does not support an argument to ban the hunting of these pilot whales.

***** You still have not got an even comprehensible argument.... They are killing for food... deal with it stop getting all upset because you think pilot whales are pretty or cute.

***** 1. Yes it is a hunt, cornering them is part of the hunt, how do you think hunting other animals works? 2. You think that these people are drunk when they hunt the whales, I'm sorry to disappoint you but this is not true. 3. The majority of the whale meat is eaten, it is eaten at least 2 times a months by are lot of the islanders, the majority of the islanders could survive without it but the majority of the world could survive without beef, or without pork, or without chicken, or without lamb etc. Pilot whale is a sustainable food source and there is not reason to ban a sustainable food source from being utilized. 4. You should try learning more about other hunting that takes place around the world, and learn about how animals are killed in abattoirs, the suffering that the animals suffer is much the same.

I respect the Faroese and their traditions. I don't see the Grind as anything bad, but basically not much different from any other fishing. Just as long as they are responsible and don't endanger the whale population and don't waste the animals they kill
