I have an example on order from the 2nd production run, due early next year (I think!), so glad to see you're impressed with yours. I grew up with 37s growling around the South Wales valleys, earning a living hauling what often seemed to be impossibly heavy coal trains.l, and they have remained a firm favourite of mine. Thanks for another excellent video.

Definitely the best 37 around atm!!! I have an old Lima and a Hornby Railroad Plus with the new Bluetooth decoder factory fitted, which is brilliant value for money! I was just too young to experience that justifiable anger, and so grew up watching them growl around the Valleys hauling huge coal trains. It was possible to see them triple head coals trains to/from Cwmbargoed for a while, until class 60s, and latterly class 66s, took over.

PS: I think your example is the most striking of the batch, with it's split headcode that was necessary to accommodate the prior-to-being-welded-shut cab communication doors, nose mounted horns and Stratford Depot-style silver-grey roof. The Brunswick Green livery looks fabulous on it too. Being a South Wales ex-pat I chose one that spent much of it's life at either Cardiff Canton or Landore depots, but now I live in East Anglia, and given what I've just said, I think yours would be my second choice. What I'm absolutely sure of however, is that I'd NEVER EVER have the courage to weather it!

These look a lot better value than the Bachmann ones I think you made the right choice. After running a while it will probably be smooth starting at slower speed than it does now. That's still impressive for a straight out of the box run though. Weathering looks good for a cleanish loco.

Beautiful layout ands really informative (and brave!) weathering. Only thing you might want to note is that this the model isnt as built or 'mid 1960's condition' a described by Accurascale. Its late '60's - note the blue TOPS panel under the number (introduced 1967, the 'NB' stencil = NO boiler for train heating) and the plated over boiler filler on the roof. These changes are the reason I cancelled my pre order. AS did the add an as built with small yellow panel as D6703 but did this as an exclusive to them which sold out very quickly. Annoys me a little if I'm honest as the AS description of D6702 is incorrect and like you I wanted an as built with small yellow panel as a 'partner' for D6700 (from Locomotion) which is as built but without the small yellow panel.

Hi Lewis, oh your video made my day, as I received my BR Green 37 through the post Wednesday, I was interested in your thoughts. I liked your weathering for this one, and how you wanted to keep it clean looking, I'm not that brave! Did you notice the loco has a BR blue data panel, I don't recall that detail when I ordered mine, around the same time you ordered yours by the sound of it, but it dates the loco to the late 1960's. I thought like you the model was mid to early 1960's, so I was surprised to see that panel on it. I guess it would be easy to remove, to back date the model a few years..............What would be your recommended method for doing that, lightly T-cut the area? Mine is a sound version and the sound really does blow you away, it's so realistic, although I had to turn the sound down on mine. A great video and an amazing loco. All the best and thank you Dave. PS I just checked the availablity of these on the Accurascale website. It looks like all except four DRS examples are sold out, even those in the second run, wow!
@MouldyRaspberry
@MouldyRaspberry Жыл бұрын
Ah that’s interesting, I didn’t know that! Yes I’d probably go for the T-Cut and just give it a gentle rub with a cotton bud. Might take a while but it will come off eventually. That’s crazy that you had to turn it down!!! Must be really impressive!

Is it me? I ‘train-spotted’ at Reading General (as it was in 1959-60), marvelling at the GWR locomotives stopping/starting and the nonstop expresses thrashing by; Manors, Halls, Castles and the glorious Kings. Sadly, my family had to move again (Father in the Royal Air Force) to Epping in Essex. Quelle contrast ☹️ our Military Quarters were at the end of the Circle line with 3 coaches shuttling between Epping and Ontario (may as well have been Reykjavik). But I digress; I went back to see a friend at Reading; tube to Paddington, nonstop to Reading; 1960 - it to just 33 minutes. In 1990 the so-called HS125 was slower. Then doomsday arrived; slowly steam was usurped my the arrival of a really smelly D800 class, Warships etc. fancy name plates but soulless diesels. I have lived in Germany twice; as a pre-teenager 1955-58 prior to Reading, then I did my ground tour (I was RAF Aircrew) at the same base as my father. On each occasion I collected Märklin HO model railways, their steam locomotives and the new (in the 1950s) sleek V2000 diesels were magnificent. My point - this 12 wheel thing is ugly. Sorry. But it wouldn’t do for us all to be the same would it? Pip! Pip! Love to all and stay safe.

That’s interesting, I’d also take a hall or a castle any day! I agree the 37s are a bit ugly, but that’s what I like about them - rugged and utilitarian 🤣

Looks to be an awesome and quality model. Love the utilitarian looks of the UK Class 37’s, they ooze workhorse credentials and seem to take on their very own personality! This is in no way intended to be in anyway critical, you are undoubtedly a very highly rated master modeller, but have always wondered why you have never adopted DCC? Hope you don’t mind me asking. Thanks for posting.
@MouldyRaspberry
@MouldyRaspberry Жыл бұрын
Completely agree! No particular reason really, but I guess other than the potential for sound I couldn’t really see what benefit it would bring for me personally with both layouts being single track etc. I’m tempted to switch though, I might just do a few locos at a time perhaps. Would you recommend DCC?
@RobA500
@RobA500 Жыл бұрын
@@MouldyRaspberry as your layouts are both single track I'd say DCC would give far better level of flexibility in having multiple loco's on track. Don't forget with DCC you drive the locomotives independently and not just provide power to the track and everything sat on it at the time, it's not just about sound that is just an optional by product. Loco and coach lights also stay on when stationary and are controllable on locos.
@tompetty1880
@tompetty1880 Жыл бұрын
100% would recommend DCC. In addition to the benefits listed by RobA500 you’ll also enjoy a more controlled and smoother running of your locos.
@muir8009

@@MouldyRaspberry @MouldyRaspberry I personally would highly recommend not going to dcc. I have dcc, dc, and ac, and I've had by far the most trouble with dcc. It's a lot more susceptible to electrical gremlins, and apart from sound, which I do have, and its okay but I'm just as happy not having it. And as for your layout size: a) how many locos do you want on it at the same time, and b) it's really not that hard to run one wire to a switch for an isolated section. On my dcc I still ended up with isolated sections to turn them off. I have an N scale tomix EF81, on an hm2000 controller with a consistent all day 0.06 scale mph: yes, less than a tenth of 1 mph. Good controller, good locomotive, great combination. Always so inspiring your layout- I've been following you for some time and I'm always in admiration of the way you capture imagery with an artists eye. Sometimes fidelity doesn't carry the necessarily aesthetic aire.

@@MouldyRaspberry For a large main line layout DCC is great but a single line like yours to me does not really justify the extra cost with chip prices as they are. My single line is DCC but only because it was built after my main line layout. I only run one train at a time so the only perk is using my sound fitted locos, as you dub real sound on your videos you would not be buying sound chips so no real benefit for you

Lovely loco, suits your layout setting nicely. I've got the next one D6703, but haven't run it yet as it arrived the day before I went on holiday last week. I did notice a little loose bit in the bottom of the clamshell. My Deltic had the same problem. All those small details are so vulnerable to damage, even brand new still in their box. One problem with your filming though, I couldn't appreciate your detail weathering because you kept waving the camera all over the place. Pan slowly along the loco please. They didn't have mine set correctly. They had it set up for the wrong type of decoder and it was a factory fitted decoder

Ironically as an ex railway worker at Westinghouse Brakes the class 37 was always considered the most reliable of all BR Diesels in real 1/1 scale. Just wish it had been the Class 52

Ah interesting. I’d like to get a 52 at some point.

52s were a force of nature, but they had no chance of surviving BRs standardisation policy, what with their hydraulic transmissions and twin power units. Although such "dual redundancy" would have come in handy on several classes that BR chose to keep!

They are classic engine. Very noisy. Especially clag and thrash. Beautiful detail.

Mine is beautiful so it pains me to demand a REFUND - the sound went off for no apparent reason. It returned but having seen Chadwick I have lost all faith 😞 so disappointed after over 2 years on the waiting list .

Ah sorry to hear that. I did see Charlie’s video, I wasn’t aware there were duds before that. I guess you could try the retooled Bachmann version? A bit more expensive but maybe more reliable.

Really don’t get this current trend for badly dubbing real sounds over model railways. It was awful when people did it with cine, it’s still awful now!

Hi Lewis what a great loco I love it.Accurascale have pulled the stops for this i have seen a number of review s on this model and on the hole all have been good i will be getting me one of these shortly .You were wondering where the extra 40 went with the Bachmann one , strait in there pockets Bachman rob dogs its joke they are ripping people of and Hornby are not far behind them. If accurarascale can do something like this at that price why cant others. any way rant over great video again Lewis thank you.
