Some of my other favorite open world games I played this year were sucide squad kills, the Justice League, Stellar Blade, Mario and luigi brothership, and parts of Call of Duty Black ops 6 campaign

Animal Well is a metroidvania, not an open-world game. Open world games can have *some* metroidvania elements like HFW, but can rarely if ever be full-on metroidvanias since they require ability/utility gating.

The best open world is Kirby Air Ride free ride mode....now in all seriousness I think Enshrouded's open world is pretty bland but it is much better than Palworld's. V Rising deserved to be on this list.

A question: what was the difference between The Lost Crown and Animal Well when it came to their gameworlds and their exploration? I ask because you had Animal Well in this list and now The Lost Crown and I've heard people call them both Metroidvanias and I want to know if there is a particular difference since I have them both on my Steam Wishlist and would like to know in advance what type of game I'm getting into....

@@joseortizreflects prince of Persia is a lot more linear overall vs animal well. While I considered it as well at the end of the day it’s just not as freeing or open as animal well. I think both are excellent games and are worth playing though

Kirby! I think you covered almost all of the best open worlds unless we count Indiana Jones but that's more like 3 open hubs 🤷‍♀️ For me it’s Shadow of the Erdtree, LAD Infinite Wealth, FFVII Rebirth, and Zelda this year in open worlds. Didn’t like what I played of Dragon’s Dogma 2, STALKER 2, or Rise of the Ronin And you should absolutely do a Kirby ranking but save it for after Mega Man, Castlevania, and Metroid 😜
