The case board as saga definitely dragged down the pacing of Alan Wake 2. Honestly wish it just didn’t all automatically.. don’t feel like I’m actually solving anything because like you said you already know what’s going on just from playing the game. It’s just repeating same info for no reason most of the time Edit: the main story and collectable locations should be automatic and they should have included some optional mysteries that you have to solve by going out of you way and actually piecing things together to work towards some sort of reward. Bonus items, skins, etc.

RDR2 was on the "games that don't respect your time" list. I know what you mean by BOTW, but the journey towards your path usually pays off. That's why I love that game. RDR2 is just a boring slog, and as a game just isn't that good. It's not very fun to play as a game, I think people can literally only praise it for it's story and details.

For years I’ve carried the memory of how a Final Fantasy game, I forget the number, wasted time with individual spell animations that lasted 30 seconds or more. They were like a cutscene. No skipping. Even if you cast the spell already, you must watch.

That's my main grip with FF Remakes.. The pacing on both of them are just TERRIBLE, especially Rebirth with that Zack's Interlude that to me was just a plain fan service without any reason behind it (until now at least). I love the combat and it's amazing, but come on, don't make me replay all that Cait Sith's part at the Shinra Mansion just to fight the Galian Beast :/. I know they needed to fill in the gaps in the game so they could lengthen the story, but all the things they add are usually either fan services or some interaction between the characters that doesn't deepen them, most of the time being just comedy scenes. The sidequests in both Remake and Rebirth, out of 80, only 10 at most have any relevance to the lore, while the rest are, again, pure comedy

The side quests in Remake aren't great, I'm with you there. However, I thought the quests in Rebirth were really fun and charming. They really capture the silly tone that the og had at times. Sure, not all of them are crucial for the story, but there is a reason why they are optional.

You could describe basically anything you do in Old School RuneScape as “wasting your time”. Leveling a skill to the maximum level takes dozens or hundreds of hours of repetitive grinding - the real kind of grinding, where you’re doing the exact same actions over and over. Obtaining rare items can require killing the same enemies for upwards of thousands of times over, with some extreme cases like the Dragon warhammer taking some players over *25,000 kills* to land a successful drop. Movement is restrictive and tedious, especially early on, with running draining an energy meter and requiring you to wait a long period for it to restore. Run energy is also affected by carry weight, meaning the more heavy things you have equipped and in your inventory, the faster you lose energy, which forces players to manage their equip load and gather energy restoring potions. Every single aspect of the game’s design is crafted in a way that would have people say, “This is a waste of my time.” And yet it’s the best game of all time and has outlived most other live services in the 23 years it’s been online. It’s so weird how RuneScape makes its entire gameplay loop a chore, like many modern video games, yet is regarded as one of the most beloved MMOs in history.

I agree with you. Some games waste your time with repetitive quests and missions, and this is one of the main reasons I always check online how long it takes to complete the main quest before playing any game. Anything over 30 hours, I try to avoid, unless I really enjoy the game, like *Elden Ring* or *Zelda: Breath of the Wild*. I spent over 100 hours on *Horizon Forbidden West* after completing the main quest in under 35 hours because I enjoyed the environment, the variety of enemies, and the different areas. I play games only when I don't have anything else to do, so I can really enjoy my time. I don't rush to complete games-I take my time. Usually, I complete 2 or 3 games at most each year

I agree with death stranding only if you’re trying to platinum it.. I actually really loved the rpg ac games.. I might be biased because origins was my introduction to the series..I’ve platinumed all three yes Valhalla included and I platinumed mirage which wasn’t bad at all..I got addicted to the gameplay loops in them but going for the platinum is a chore after awhile lol I’ve platinumed both ff7 remakes and the first one for sure became a chore. Going for the platinum on metaphor right now then plan on “playing” all the personas. The turn based combat and gameplay loop of the Atlus games finally clicked for me.

Persona 3's main issue for me is that you have to keep playing as different characters just to keep them leveled up with the protagonist, and it's just tedious and takes forever to keep the party on the same level. It's not as bad in Reload because everyone shares xp but still it's annoying that i have to replay floors of tartarus as characters i haven't played before just to level them up.

I wholeheartedly agree with the Alan Wake II inclusion. To preface, I haven’t played the first one yet, but II has become one of my all time favorite survival horrors. The Mind Place segments were very cool as you said up till about the halfway mark. Every single little lore piece being a clue gets tiring. To the point where to speed up the process, I would place the pictures into the area it’s supposed to go before the dialogue would finish for the last clue placed. I also wasn’t a fan of the movement speed coupled with the need for backtracking. Irritating that after getting one clue, I get to spend the next 7 minutes trying to get back to the goddamn car, avoiding enemies so as to speed up the process.

You hit the nail on the head with persona 3 😂😂 I bought reload expecting this incredible story from start to finish and the game’s pacing was absolutely terrible. I played with a guide and it felt like torture getting through the monotony of nothing happening outside of combat. Most boring game I’ve ever played by far, and the twist wasn’t worth the pay off. I stopped playing around the end of the November mark in the game.

While I absolutely adore Alan Wake and it’s sequel, I 100% agree with you. Obviously they made the 2nd one longer just because the story is more fleshed out than the 1st and it was supposed to be a much bigger experience. But there are moments in the game that do feel unnecessary and hurt the replay value. Alan Wake 1 has really good replay value because it’s decently short with TUBULAR pacing compared with 2. Overall like I said, I adore both of these games but I agree, 2 gets dragged out at certain points and can feel like a slog. Also I would say a game I played recently that definitely wasted my time is the Spongebob Squarepants Movie Game. To rewind, when I was a kid if I got this game on release and was able to see the plot of the movie before seeing the movie, I probably would have a different opinion on this one. But the fact is that the movie exists so the game’s plot just feels pointless to play thru because I know what’s happening at all times. And that’s not the biggest of issues because my main problem is that the game gets stale about an hour into it. Once you do even 5 of the mission types you’ve seen the entire game and furthermore the game requires a certain amount of Goofy Goober tokens to take you to the next area where you repeat all the same mission types. I didn’t even finish the game because I just got so bored with it. It’s kind of a shame because BFBB was the GOAT and it was made a year before by the same people! So I thought this game is gunna be great. Sure it’s different but in all the wrong ways. At the very least I can commend Heavy Iron Studios for the banger soundtrack! But after I quit this game I said man, THAT was simply just a waste of time!

My point is that the majority of modern games add needless padding to fill out and make the purchase feel more justifiable. With the SH2R the majority of the people like it because it develops on aspects of the original, and if the game was 8-10 hours like the original and cost as much as it does now, people would complain. The FF7 Rebirth open world stuff would be fine if it wasn't for Chadley interrupting you every single time. Cloud has to take out the phone thing, boot up chadley, watch his dumb looped face spout exposition, put the phone away. For me, what feels like a waste, is when they throw some tank/bulletsponge enemies, and on top of that, they need some sort of combination of QTEs to beat them, that alone drives me crazy to the poing of giving up the game, because there is no fun in that, like, I get all these upgrades to beat these enemies in 1 hit, I don't care about some lame QTE that just waste my time, I just want to feel overpowered at the end of game and this is fun for me. Ironicaly, I love Yakuza, but I only played 0, and the forced QTE on some battles makes me stopping playing, I just can't deal with all these forced combinations of buttons. Meanwhile, I miss playing Dark Souls, where I don't have to worry and be just as overpowered as I wanted.

Grim Fandango for me The characters, story and art are all amazing, but the gameplay is full of “how was I supposed to know this?” puzzles and moving around feels awkward.

That and the misery simulator are the two reasons I'll probably never replay the first one and never finish the second haha. I just finished Resident Evil 4 Remake and while the story is obviously inferior to that of TLOU, I was having so much fun all throughout the experience with the tight gameplay and amazing visuals, I'll very probably replay it in a couple years just for the blast it is to experience and it will also definitely stay with me a lot more as well just because of that!

My complain about TLoU is the opposite. I don't think the story is as amazing as people tend to tell. Don't get me wrong, it is a good story, but TWD 1 from Telltale did the same thing that TLoU proposed to do and IMO it did better

FFRebirth was the biggest time waster of the entire year. I regret getting that game soo much. It caused me physical pain slogging through all those time wasting mini games and pointless maps. Another one is SMT 5 felt like it wasted a lot of my time as well, I really enjoyed the gameplay and story somewhat, but man, the maps are way too big and tedious to explore, god damn! I got to the end map and i'm like shit i cannot do this anymore lol.

Man, I'm loving Rebirth. It's Remake that I hated. Remake is so unbelievably dull at times that I struggled to continue.

@dejct I can understand that. For me, I liked how nearly every mini-game connected to building bonds with other characters or were just made to be fun. Sure, I like some more than others, but only some felt like a bit of a time waster. Obviously, OG is still king. Lol

@@collinhalverson4681 FF16 is a 10/10 for me, i absolutely loved that game. All killer no filler! Even the side quests were super fun. I must like more linear games :D

Persona 2 for me. Do not like the dungeon crawling/ random encounters. Drags the game way longer than it needs to be. But really great story.

I’ve never been a souls person until i played elden ring and after i finished it i learnt two thing first which was obvious i want to finish every thing with the word souls in it. Second thing is to always have an open mind and don’t judge a game without trying it with an open heart. Until i tried FF7 remake . That game to me felt like it was trying to disrespect me on purpose that 30 hours felt like 3000 every dialogue felt like a bunch of 5 year olds fighting over a toy. Most of enemy variety made me angry as they all look stupid wether it was a rat or a stupid ghost … etc… . I spent the first 15 hours trying to understand and find a hook. Was always saying to my self all those people praising it can’t be wrong. Then i spent the second 15 hours so i dont feel that i wasted the first 15 hours. Long story short ff7 remake to me the game that wasted my time the most. P.s I’m a dentist i spend most of my day working . So my free time is very precious to me
