This was so good, really appreciate in depth instructional videos like this. I’ll definitely be watching this multiple times to try and take it all in. I get a lot of these positions frequently, but had not seen many of these opportunities to attack. Thank you 🙏

At 4:46 you seem to forget knights move backwards? You say the rook is hanging and then have the black queen force a queen trade to save the rook, but it’s already protected by the knight. According to stockfish 14.1 at 22 lines of depth d6 is blacks best move there, Qf6 forcing the trade is its fourth best move for black. I don’t mean to criticize, I absolutely love your videos and don’t pretend to be a great player, I just thought that seemed like a funny slip up.

25:00 "Stafford Gambit [...] invented by Eric Rosen". I'm sure he'll get a laugh out of that. He popularized it, certainly, but if he invented it wouldn't it be the Rosen Gambit? (Internet says Joseph C Stafford played it in 1950)

4:49 Bh6 would be a powerful move instead of trading queens. If Nxh6 then Qxf6 and the threat is Qxf6 Nxf6 Bg7 fork. If Qxg7 then Bxg7 traps the rook. If Ke7 to defend the f6-square then Nd5 fork. The only big drawback with Bh6 is that it does not threaten mate on f8 because of the knight on g6. I still think both Qxf6 and Bh6 are powerful moves.

The rook is defended
@fridolfwalter2256 Жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter because white threatens Qxf6 followed by Bg7 fork and the rook is less valuable than the rook...

This is so good, and YES, I agree, keep it simple! I think sometimes I get a bit lost in other videos where they go into 15+ moves on all the variations. That's what Modern Chess Openings is for. This is exactly what I need, simple and stable development, then we play chess without making mistakes in the first few moves. I'll have to try e4 e5 nf3 nc6 nc3, because I usually go into the Italian game after nc6. And thanks for including the Petrov. Ugh, I hate that defense.

4:42 does the move require the bishop to be hanging? Bc the knight can take the queen if someone takes that bishop
@thisguy81065 ай бұрын
What i mean by that is, bc the knight is protecting the bishop, what if they don't move their queen to that spot to trade the queens?

Also to note about the Stafford Gambit: you mentioned the computer gave an advantage of +1 for white in a position, and that's true, it's theoretically dubious, but the idea is that it's challenging for humans and you're trying to capitalize when they slip. A player who knows every single trick will just get an advantage against you and you'll lose; you're trying to win by being more "booked up" on the gambit.
