Have you found an issue where they are only recognized as a dimmer in the app - then once turned off at the physical switch you can not turn them back on from the app - i.e. they only act as a dimmer and you have no switch control in the app ? I am wanting to know if they have updated the firmware so it is now recognized as a switch not just a dimmer

Looking forward to them getting more in stock - they look pretty good. Similar use case, do you have any recommendation on a HA friendly fan speed controller for an older fan that currently has a generic 3 speed switch? I'm trying to avoid the Deta one as that LED always on would kill me and I've read reports about them not being overly reliable. Bonus points if it had rotary dial control - but wonder if I would need to replace fans with newer (DC?) fans for that...

I know , if they can get enough I bet they’ll sell heaps of them. I’ve used this fan controller kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6rToJ2EmZt8n7s I believe they make it with a wall plate as well with the 3 speeds as buttons

I was gearing up to go down the Shelly dimmer path but it didn’t have the rotary dimmer included. This will definitely make life easier, with a much higher WAF. Quick question (confirmation) how does the system control the brightness remotely? Which take precedence, the local dimmer setting or the remotely controlled setting?
@SparkyJames
@SparkyJames Жыл бұрын
It’s a relative encoder so there is no physical high or low position , you simply turn the knob to increase or decrease brightness and the change reflects in HA , and in HA you can change it up and down. If HA is shutdown or there is no wifi it still just a normal functioning dimmer.

Great find, mate. I'm in the process of replacing my rotary dimmers. Question on tuya local (first time user). You used the Tuya app for the initial setup. That account would be on an external server which is not really in line with the Home Assistant philosophy. While tuya local controls the device locally without cloud is there still a connection to the Tuya cloud server/account?

Hi James, thanks for the content. Is this still using phase control from the dimmer? I am in South East Queensland and suffer bad with ripple tone injection from Energex causing my downlights in dimmers to flicker. I was hoping this was simply a wifi rotary encoder that I could integrate into HS to then control programmatically a wifi enabled downlight that doesn't rely on phase control input signal
@SparkyJames
@SparkyJames Жыл бұрын
You could do that with this dimmer. There is the problem that it relies on wifi for the lights to work. But what you wanted this could do.

@@SparkyJames thanks mate, so essentially the output to load would not be connected but essentially just have it provide the states and rotary position via wifi. Do you know if there are any adaptors for this to fit into a Clipsal iconic series grid plate?

I'm all for a dimmer like this 🙂 But from what I've been advised it's even more susceptible to our 750Hz or 1050Hz ripple signal for off-peak, etc. Have grabbed me a set of 2+1 free via Oz Smart Things - they should do well in my bedrooms - especially for the kid's rooms where they tend to leave it on... As we do have bedside lamps on mostly after 10pm, the use case is pretty good and should hopefully avoid the nuisance signal.

Just wondering if anyone on here has these recognized as Dimmer Switches in the Tuya app. Mine (no matter if added automatically or manually) keep setting themselves up as Dimmers only. There is no way to activate them in the app - but once turned on manually by pressing the physical button they are then avaialable to dim up and down. Ultimately i will be using these with Node Red rather than HA but sending them commands through the TuyaAPI engine - they seem to ignore the on/off commands in DPS 1 - anyone else seen this ? I have contacted the supplier and they just referred me to the video and said thats it !

I have just added this into the latest version of HA using the V5 of the LocalTuya HACS integration. I note that at 9:20 in the video he seems to have the same issue that i am seeing but glosses over it - if you turn the device on from HA - it immediately turns off again and then all control is lost until it is switched back on from the physical push button on the switch. Jimmy wondering if you can comment on this and advise whether you are seeing the same behaviour ? Craig
@MrCraigCurtin
@MrCraigCurtin Жыл бұрын
OK more messing around and i debugging down at the ethernet packet level and i can not see anyway that these devices are going to work in HA without a Firmware update - once they are turned off all automation and control is lost from them until they are re-enabled from the switch itself (by pushing) - so i bought two of these based on Jimms enthusiasm in this video and i wonder now whether he is still using them (and if he is experiencing the same issues that i am) or if this was some form of paid promotion and these have been consigned to the scrap heap. I have to say that the supplier is appaling at answering emails or in any way appearing to be interested in addressing the issue that i have identified.
