I've used Dixie Belle and it's fantastic paint but I still always prime first and here is why. My eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be, so I miss little dents and cracks what have you that I would have otherwise filled and sanded smooth before I paint. A coat of primer and suddenly I can see all those imperfections that I missed. Once I'm sure everything is prepared up to my standard, I'll put down two coats of the good stuff. For me at least, the better result is worth that extra step. All their products I've tried have impressed me. I love the orange scented Big Momma's. Haven't tried the rest. The gilding wax is really nice too, as are their top coats.

Hi. First a question - what did you use to paint the hardware and how well does the paint stand up to regular use on a handle? Second, very helpful video - thank you - and you inspired me to get some of that paint for two hexagonal vintage side cabinet things we have and use for bedside tables. They don't match exactly but are very similar and, I think in the same color paint, they will look great together. I ordered Acadia (a very dark green) and Oasis (a teal). I will probably use the Acadia on these first items, though I am not sure. Thank you.

My actual costs were $30 for the dresser, probably less that 3-5$ in misc. product like sandpaper, cleaner etc. , and then fortunately the Dixie belle brand sent me free paint and stain to test out for the video. Have you ever tried Fusion mineral paint? I’m from Australia and Dixie Belle paint is rare to find down here. At least where I live and I don’t like to buy on line aka site unseen. I have tried that twice before and what I saw on screen is not what I got. I have tried Fusion and loved it for all of the reasons you loved the Dixie Belle. But Thanks to the Pandemic the local store had to close down so now the nearest store is over an hour’s drive away. The reason I ask if you have tried Fusion is because if you think Dixie Belle is better I may be enticed to try buying on line again. When it comes to furniture artisans/flippers Australia (outside of metropolitan areas) is way behind and therefore stockists are still quite rare. I actually don’t want to flip furniture I just have some projects for my own home but I can’t afford to make mistakes with my paint choices.
