Grew up eating Skippy but as an adult prefer Jif though my all time favorite is a natural peanut butter made by a small local nut shop. It's nothing but fresh roasted peanuts and is neither smooth or chunky. Rather it has a coarse texture and while it's very good it makes incredibly good peanut butter cookies.

My favorite peanut butter was Trader Joe’s crunchy with flax and Chia seeds. Then I discovered peanut butter powder. Now I make my own peanut butter combining it with liquid coconut oil, almond meal, crushed pecan bits, and/or a variety of other seeds and nuts. I make it different every time.

I grew up on Skippy Crunchy, but when natural peanut butter became available in our area my dad switched. Recently, natural peanut butter wasn't available in any of our stores, so, I bought a jar of good old Skippy. Yuk! I couldn't eat it! I m saving it for peanut butter cookies, so it won't go to waste. Everything is so highly sweetened these days. This just proves what I see in my everyday life. The population just gears toward everything sweet. Personally I do not like sweet peanut butter I don't eat sweets in my daily life and when I do I find everything just too sweet for my liking. Personally I would rather live without peanut butter than eat peanut butter that has sugar and hydrogenated oil. That adds to so many health problems that we as a population are experiencing. Namely diabetes high cholesterol and many more.

I imagine most of us are pretty old and grew up in a generation when choice want that varied. There were some but certainly not as many as we find today. Having said that there are a lot of he’s,their alternatives now. Almond butter, natural vs engineered or better yet, as an avid test kitchen fan why not try making your own? Chances are the ones you make will not taste as good and will probably make you spit it out but as the famous cough medicine saying goes, if it tastes bad, that means it’s good for you.

Add just a touch of honey or just sugar to your natural PB and it tightens up the texture. No idea what the food chemistry is, but I've been doing it for years. That touch of sweetness does really round out the flavor too.

I know it was discussed in an episode) about why they haven't tested CostCo or Trader Joe branded items and it's because those stores aren't everywhere and CostCo is behind a membership. They want to test products anyone/everyone can buy at their local grocery stores.

The other night this video popped up in my KZbin feed and since I love peanut butter and ATK I watched it. I am pleased to report that my chin is healing well after seeing your findings and it hitting the desk where I was watching. Why? During the pandemic I had to resort to ordering products online rather than going to the store. I couldn't find my preferred brand initially and settled for some Skippy Super Chunk, which I had enjoyed in my youth. I was dumbfounded by how bad it was!! It was waxy, sweet, and only vaguely tasted like peanuts, despite having so many peanut chunks in it. I am astonished that ATK picked this hollow contender as the winner. I will have to cast a more jaundiced eye towards ATK's future recommendations after this misfire!

Grew up not eating peanut butter probably a textural issue because I ate peanuts. In my mid 50s tried the honey-roasted peanut butter sold in bulk section of Whole Foods (now labeled Hampton Farms.) I'm team crunchy too but I am a staunch supporter of all natural, not because I'm snobbish about the natural hype but I have tasted natural and Skippy Chunky side by side (natural homemade with only one ingredient and you can guess what it is) and I much preferred the natty one. I'm not a fan of the greasy film on the tongue left by hydrogenated PBs. It's just preference, no one is wrong here.

I live in Thailand where there are fewer choices. There are two, fortunately, Skippy and Jif. You're paying a lot less for PB in America. The size like in the video is about $8 in my neck of the woods

Health wise, the best PB is added sugar and hydrogenated oil free. Valencia peanuts are the best because they have the lowest amount of aflatoxin. This is a mold by-product that is hard on the liver. Trader Joe's brand and Kirkland/Costco brand (they only carry smooth) use Valencia peanuts.

I got a Blendtec partially for that reason. Well actually it was more for almond butter. I found a lot of store bought natural almond butters were slightly rancid. The Blendtec could absolutely not handle raw almonds. They then upsold me on the Twister jar, and it still could not handle it. They suggested roasting the almonds or soaking them in water and adding oil. When I tried making it, the machine would shut down from overheating and put out a chemical smell. It was absolutely impossible to do what I was attempting, which was natural, unroasted almond butter. I am curious if you have Vitamix or Blendtec? If I ever make a huge purchase like that again, I will try Vitamix because I can't imagine it's worse than the Blendtec at almond butters.

Kind of funny how you say creamy outsells crunchy by 5 to 1... then he asks if there is any reason to buy creamy. Apparently most people think so. I hope he is not the type of cook who thinks his opinion is worth more than others. Here in the Philippines we have very limited foreign selection. Skippy or Peter Pan, and Skippy is half the price - so no real choice. The local peanut butter is oily and way too sweet (and spoils quickly). A local friend of mine says they prefer the American brands because they are not as sweet. Odd, I always thought Skippy and Peter Pan were already too sweet ha ha. 😎

I used to like crunchy, but prefer smooth now. If I'm making a Thai or similar dish, hiding peanut butter from my husband, who claims to dislike it, smooth lets me do so, easily. And I dislike bits of nuts stuck in my teeth. Meanwhile, I can eat a handful of nuts without this happening. Weird. So, did I miss the video of "Best Creamy Peanutbutter?" I may start making my own at home, because that's ridiculously easy, and cheaper. I've even started making vegan cheeses using nut purees, and so far, they're amazing. I suggest a video on making vegan cheeses. Btw, for creamy cheese one can cook with, the best nut ratio by weight is 2/3-3/4 raw cashews to 1/4-1/3 raw pecans. For dips and sauces not meant to be browned later, roasting the nuts before dosing with the bacteria and fungi creates a real depth of flavour. Cheers!

We did a blind taste test of the big 4 jiff, Peter Pan, Reeses and Skippy and Jiff was #1 Skippy #2 Peter Pan #3 Reeses #4 . I'd buy all 4 by price which ever is lowest I'll buy if all the same price Jiff
