This is the best way to Remove the magnetic mount and disc: 1.Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to help break the adhesive bond. 2. carefully use a fishing line or dental floss in a sawing motion to cut the foam away. 3. wipe away any adhesive without leaving any marks.

Great video. I’m with you with the drive side mount. Only draw backs are, it’s harder to charge phone on that side. Wires all over steering wheel. The other is the majority of people are right handed, on this side of the Atlantic. It is definitely better for not blocking windshield view. Lastly, move to a place where you don’t have to worry about your car vent overheating your phone.

Just saw this video and wanted to add that you can take the iOttie mount and remove the mechanical grabber and then take a magnetic mount from another product and attach it to the iOttie mount as they tend to use the same sized ball-mount. This offers the best of both worlds, the superior flexibility and positioning of the iOttie along with the convenience of a magnetic attachment.

I made my own mount based on the ProClip for my car. Use Velcro as the "holder/cradle". Custom made the mount to be at correct angle and height for me. Top of phone is at line of sight to base of windshield so it is easy to see without blocking the view. Angle is toward driver and up toward roof enough to not get rear window glare. Closest thing to it in the video, location wise, would be vent clip mount. But a little higher.

I once got a ticket for having my phone mounted in the center of the dash! 1) It was an "add-on" for the cop, since he was giving me a speeding ticket at the time. I doubt I would have gotten one otherwise. 2) The base was mounted to the window, rather than the dash Now I have an iOttie mount, mounted to the dash. I use their intermediate pad. On hot days, while the pad stays, the suction cup tends to peel off from the pad. I have used their standard mount, AND their induction-charging mount. The mechanism works well for both of them, but the induction mount (trying to charge my phone through the OtterBox Defender case) tends to give me an overheat warning on the phone far more often than I actually get a meaningful charge from it. I have no such overheating problem using an inductive fast-charging puck when I'm at home. Thank you, Aaron!

So, I've been online checking out what's out there for the past half hour and I can't believe how many different kinds there are, and the prices are all over the place. I just happened upon this video and wanted to say thanks for being so thorough with your research - the information you provided was very complete. This is going to be the most informed decision/purchase I've made in a long time. Thanks again.

I like the vent mount best. It's easy to mount and to put away quickly. However, I have had my iPhone shut down both from the vent's heat and the A/C. I'm going to try using only the floor vents as suggested by another comment. I do like the A/C blowing right on me in the 90+ degree weather.

@Brandon Lewis Woodard No consumer is personally equipped to repeatedly crash cars to find the most safe location for a car mount. Don't forget about generally having a lump of metal and glass flying around your car if/when you have an accident. We've completely disregarded all magnetic holders for that reason, and we don't even like the idea of having a suction or vent mount for the same reason. The only ones we've found that have a more built-in feel are Brodit mounts. Designed for specific positions in each model of car so that they're securely mounted.

A good review. There a few unclear points: 1. how do you get power cord to the (1) position? 2. how strong are the vent mounts? I had one and it did not hold even itself. 3. cd mounts tend to get in the way of the radio/multimedia/climate knobs, and if you need to use the phone you really have to take your eyes off the road. what is your opinion of that?
@MobileReviewsEh7 жыл бұрын
1. A long cable from adapter. I forgot to mention in the video that I don't mount my devices for long periods of time. Even if I am navigating, the screen is usually blacked off since I have an apple watch. 2. The Vent mounts will different based on the magnet. Neodynaim ones are the strongest? 3. That's dependant on the console design and the depth of the mount.

Get the MPOW Grip Magic Air Vent Mount Holder. It's a magnetic setup with one piece attached to your phone (inside battery cover, on phone, or on phone case(inside or out)) and the other, a very strong magnetic mount that goes in the vent. It's two-way adjustable to get a tight fit. Just plop it up there and your done in microseconds, no fiddling . Your phone doesn't overheat even in direct sunlight. Finally, something that's easy and works.

FYI if you have a car with automatic climate control, it will generally direct heat into the foot well area (because heat rises). Defrost air will of course direct up on to the windshield,....the center level dash vents are generally reserved for fresh or cooled / air conditioned air. If you have a car with manual heat and AC, you will generally get better results directing the heat into the footwells,

Word of advice, although it is messy it allows the suction cup to secure itself for more than 3 months. Use clear silicone. Use a quarter size then press down hard then tighten then after a min let go. Do not use mount until an hour later. Beter do it at night before going to bed, if you find it fallen off you did not use enough clear silicone. Must use clear silicone! Don't use colored or white silicone.

Great review! I'm real fortunate because my car has a 2" ledge that sticks out from the dash and seems almost custom made for adding a smartphone or any size tablet. All I did was roll up a 7" length of duct tape, sticky side out, and attach that to the ledge. Then I attached a 7" length of duct tape to that, non sticky side out. (Although you could also use Gaffers tape that doesn't leave a residue.) Then I simply lay the smartphone or tablet behind the tape, leaning it up against the dash. The device doesn't tend to go anywhere, though I could add a magnetic strip, Velcro or Gaffers tape to the back of the devices and front of dash. Simple solution, and since the duct tape is the same color as what it's attached to, the car looks like it was made that way. No one has even noticed that it's there. Oh, all I'm covering up is an old (2009 navigation system) that doesn't have traffic. When mounted like this, the iPad mini even looks like it came with the car! Lastly, the cost is in the pennies and can be configured and reconfigured in any way desired.

another con about the magnetic holders is related to phones with wireless charging. you have to remove the phone from the case before you can charge, otherwise the little sticky plate will heat up pretty quickly if you try to charge while it's attached. magnetic mounts are my favorite as they are so simple to use and work great, but the issue is i either lose wireless charging or i have to constantly remove my case before charging. wish they had the best of both worlds.

In a sunnyday, the adhesive will come off, i love to stick it on the windshield driver side, but that's a problem😢

You forgot to mention the cigarette lighter mount - its like the cup holder mount but it sticks into the cigarette lighter port, comes with a cable that can charge your phone at the same time. What do you think of those type? Seems to be a good alternative to the cup holder, and avoids the overheating issue of the air vent mounts.
