Never did I ever feel like SCIV was a "short" game: at least not when compared to most platformers of the era

Yes, I like where this game takes you graphically and musically. Also, the death of Dracula is a nice moment with the music and the sunlight. This game has always had a “cushioned” feeling to me, if that’s makes any sense. The whipping, jumping, the falling, even the hits, it has an overall softness to it. I don’t know, that might not make sense to anyone.

Castlevania 4 is a great place to start. I'll play devils advocate and say Castlevania Chronicles (The Arranged Mode) on PS1. You get unlimited continues, you can save your data to a memory card so you don't have to beat the game in one go, enemies drop sub-weapons, There is an herb "sub-weapon" that you can use to refill your health AND they reduced the knockback and damage. You get a great remake of the first game with more forgiving gameplay.

"Well akshooally the game was always bad" Egoraptor and Jeremy Parish tried to ruin the game's rep but I'm glad to see the game's reception is still mostly positive. Doesn't matter if it's "unbalanced" as long as it's fun to play and stylish in its presentation. No later games copied the whip mechanics to this degree so the armchair critics have even less reason to dislike the game. It can stand on its own as much as it compliments the series.
