I managed to live in Barcelona for almost two years, had a private Spanish tutor, went to intensive group classes and learnt almost nothing. The tutor and classes mostly focused on conjugations that I not only hated trying to learn, they were also useless in daily life as no one had time to stand around while I mentally looked up conjugation tables and would either switch to English or just plain walk away, before I could say or understand anything. On a good day, I could order another beer, but if the waiter replied with a question about what type, I wouldn't understand. Today, I've done almost 150 hours of Dreaming Spanish and while I'm still just at the beginning of intermediate, I have improved unbelievably, compared to all the traditional methods. I can understand my neighbours when I meet them on the stairs (after asking them to speak slowly to me) and I actually now start hearing spanish words and sentences when I walk on the street, before it was just unintelligible background noise. Can't wait to continue this journey to higher levels. Thank you Pablo and team.

ME simplemente ENCANTA España!

I just today returned from a two-week holiday in Andalucia (visiting Malaga, Almeria, Granada, Cordoba, Ejica, Sevilla & Ronda) and must say I found the Spanish very similar to how Pablo, Alma and Sandra speak. People do drop their S's at the end, but they still speak with the ceceo, which I believe is not the case in Latin America. As long as people spoke slowly, I found it relatively easy to follow (me being at intermediate level).

I've studied in Spain a few times, twice in high school, when we stayed in Madrid, and once in college when I spent 3 months in Granada. For a college student, I think Granada is a great place to study! It's very easy to get around on foot, and there is so much history and beautiful architecture to see (especially the Alhambra!), and like Pablo says, you're near the coast so you can visit the Mediterranean easily, as well as the mountains. I didn't find the Andalucian accent to be terribly difficult to understand compared to Madrid, so I think if you have some experience with Spanish under your belt already, definitely give it a try if you have the means to visit!

I have lived in San Sebastian for 1 year now which is fantastic but the main language is Euskera and it's quite expensive. We are planning to move to leon as it's cheap to live, the main language is castellano, the climate is good but not too warm and it's close to the mountains in the north of spain.

Thank you for the video. I spent Christmas with extended family in Almeria in the South and then in Burgos in the North. I was quite surprised at how little English people spoke in both places. Previously I had the impression that more or less everyone in Spain spoke English well (I guess because I had only experienced tourist hot spots before) So I've been trying to learn Spanish since I returned and your channel is helping me so much. Thank you again.

I have been to language schools in both Valencia and in Tenerife. Both schools were excellent and I enjoyed the lifestyle in both, but English is very widely spoken, especially in bars, restaurantes etc. I hate it when they bring an English menu and have to ask them to speak Spanish. Tenerife is a nice place, especially during winter. I have booked another school in Santander in August. It looks really nice.

I lived in Barcelona from 2016-2020 and would not recommend this city to learn Spanish. What he said is correct: the street signs, the shops signage is in Catalan. Even the little things to help you learn Spanish (going to the grocery store) are not as much fun because the display signs are in Catalan. The people speak Catalan and those that find out you are trying to learn Spanish immediately comment "You are going to learn Catalan too, right?!" And those that you try to practice with want to practice their English.

Use an app like duolingo or clozemaster to learn the basic vocab and do lots of listening of learner-level content. And use apps like Tandem and Hello Talk to find language exchange partners.

Definitely not Catalonia . There is too much Catalan spoken and you spend a lot of wasted time listening to Catalan and confusing it with Spanish. And Salamanca I heard was all English . So many foreign students go there. Best stay away from cities where there's a lot of international students. However, young Spanish students want to practice their English too which means you'll constantly be running way from the English language. Speaking English has real disadvantages if you trying to learn a foreign language. Small cities or big towns are best where you wont find too many people speaking English.
