You do NOT have to wait until your last frost date to start your spring garden (though be warned that your neighbors may look at you funny!). Your garden can be overflowing with leaves, root crops, and fruits even when you're still getting frost at night. Here are plants that thrive in cool weather.
Shop our Gardenary Seed System to get the seeds you see in the video: shop.gardenary.com/collection...
You've got the choice to buy all these seeds WITH a copy of Leaves, Roots & Fruit to help you grow or without.

I am a gardener! what a beautiful description of how gardeners can benefit mentally physically and spiritually. Its a complete joy to have my garden in my life. As a caregiver it’s my sanity to escape life’s worries ❤

My last frost date was March 6th but I planted a bunch of stuff before then. Now I’m planting more lettuces, transplanting my collards, kale, and Swiss chard and watching all my beans start to climb their pole trellises. It’s a true thing of beauty! My turnips, carrots and radishes are almost ready for harvest (I plant those in winter). ☺️So satisfying. Oh and all my potatoes are popping up and thriving. I planted those mid February this year. I just love gardening so much!

It amazes me how many people are so adamant about not planting anything before LFD. Im 2-3 weeks grom my LFD and I'm already done planting my cool season plants: lettuce, bok choy, radish, peas, carrots, yod fah. Cilantro is a constant volunteer. I haven't had to plant it in years. Dill was also a volunteer. I also have some plants that I planted in the fall: kale, parsley, chives, spinach, celery.

Swiss chard is what I am most excited about planting! It looks so beautiful on top of being edible!

Just planted peas and carrots and set out brassica seedlings. Would have done the seeds at the beginning of March but I was ill. Shelling peas are planted at the base of the Nicole trellis --such a great garden accessory. I am using some row covers more because the weather has suddenly become dry than for fear of frost as I am not always here to water. I am going to try some more of your suggestions. Another great early crop is baby bok choy. I am in Zone 6b/7a NY, average last frost date April 16.

Glad to hear you're enjoying your Nicole trellis! Did you do the arch or the panel? Also love baby bok choy

So 60 days before last frost is about now, but we just had a foot of snow & are expecting more the end of week & this has been a mild winter! What zone are you in?

Brush the snow aside. Plant seeds, and let the snow water yer stuff!

It really only matters if your soil is workable or not. These seeds can sit in cold soil under snow and then sprout once it warms up a bit just fine.

Should we direct sow lettuce? I’m in Chicago 😊,thank you

Yes, it's best to direct sow them since they grow so fast

We focus more on growing seasons than zones. This is for those of you who will be enjoying a cool season (temps mostly in the 40s, 50, and 60s, still some frost at night) for another couple months

Just a heads up, I'm in northern Indiana (was the colder of the 5s for years and supposedly now 6.... but we break those temps every winter) and planted peas at 60 days from the official last frost date based on another video saying that was the best time to plant, yeah, that was a big fail. Same with onions. It's been 2 weeks, I'm going to wait at least another week before I replant. I don't know if we are just more variable or more windy or what here.
