Hello, I’m Bob Hilton from Hilton Piano Center here in Albany, NY in Colonie Center. Today we are just going to talk about one of the most advanced player pianos that is available on the market today. It’s put out by Yamaha, of course, they are pretty on top of things over there. What we are playing is a Disklavier Enspire while running from an Ipad, or your phone, or whatever you would like to use. But I think this is the way people want to play their digital pianos today. We don’t want CDs, we don’t want all that old technology, we are so used to using our phones, and that’s the way we want to travel and that’s the way we want to play our pianos today.
So I want to give you a quick little idea on how to run this piano and how it may look like on an iPad. So if we go back to our main screen you will see there are built-in songs, you can make your playlist, you can also record your own songs which is great. So if your a player or if you have friends that play you can capture all that and it will all stay right here in your iPad and play the piano back. We can do many other things like Disklavier radio where you can just have this thing play like you would Pandora or any of the other things and it will just play endless of all the music and we also have Disklavier TV, that’s going to be exciting and I can’t wait to show you that in a little bit. But very exciting piano just know that there are thousands and thousands of songs available no more CDs and none of that old technology. Let me get started and show you how to get around this piano. We are going to go into songs, we are going to choose the built-in songs, and then we have a couple of different genres if you like country music, or if you like classical music, or if you like R and B, Jazz, Rock, Pop, it’s pretty much all there. One of the things I like about it is we also have the audio mixed in with it too, so I song I think I just love hearing this little Jazz song here. And again you like classical, stick with classical, if you don’t want the background vocals you don’t have to have that. But just know that it is available and it makes, I think, a whole another aspect of listening to the piano. It’s just more of a performance rather than a simple piano song. And again we can control, even the volume can be controlled from here. So I can bring more volume up or I can go in here and choose if I want more vocals, so everything can be controlled and you can put it to where you feel it should be. I can also take out the piano part so I can play along if I want to play along too. We can also remove the vocals if you wanted to sing, that can also be done. I can also, check this out, I don’t think anybody has ever had this. I can turn this into, let’s say my piano is out of tune, you’re going to hear this now as a digital piano, even though it’s moving the handles and moving the keys it’s playing it as a digital piano so it’s perfectly in tune. I find that no one else is doing that no one else has that but Yamaha. It gives you an idea of how good the piano sample is on this.

We have many customers that love piano but can't play... at least yet. This is one way to have enjoy piano and start the dream. One of things that surprises our customers with Yamaha motorcycles is I ask them to go look closely at the Yamaha emblem on that bike. You will see 3 tuning forks as Yamaha started making Pianos over a 120 years ago, well before motorcycles.

Most of our customers take up the low interest offers fo financing on pianos. Payments are only a few hundred a month. The good thing is its different than a car, most cars usually get replaced at the end of the payments. The piano lives on for our lifetime.

So the Disklavier uses a speaker...? I hear the singer's voice coming out of the piano... Which makes me question how much of the piano sound is actually from the hammers hitting the strings vs the speakers?

Hi, the piano is fully acoustic and you have an app in which everything is controlled from, including the singing as well as the volume of the acoustic piano playing. You can balance the acoustic piano playing and/or the vocals all from the app. The 2 small but powerful speakers are located up underneath the piano . The speakers to do not hinder the sound of the piano.

how do you record yourself and play back on tv and the piano? Can E3 disklavier do this as well?

Hi Nancy, great question! You will need 4 things to do this. Typically an iPhone or iPad, the app from Yamaha called My Recorder, a wireless midi adapter from Yamaha called a MD-BT01 and an Apple TV device that allows you to cast what you see on your phone or iPad to a TV. It's all very easy once hooked up. Just make sure that you connect to the MD-BT01 within the My recorder app before recording or playing a video. As far as this working on an older E3 Disklavier, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I don't have one here to test but the connections are the same. I hope this helps. We have all these devices at out store for sale and can help you if you have more questions.

Yes, there are RCA outputs to send audio signal to amplifiers and speakers or powered speakers.

The one I’m about to inherit from my father has some nice built in active Yamaha monitors. I’ve been wondering, can the piano only play .midi files or will it receive & send live midi information via midi or usb cable? I am a music producer so this would be most useful for re-dubbing midi pianos or even doing remote recording sessions, I really look forward to making this beauty the centrepiece of my studio

Hi Jim, let me know the serial number of your piano and the model of the box in front. It will say DKC-???. There are ways to upgrade it with a few different systems that we sell at the store.

The Steinway Spirio is a good player system however, the Yamaha Disklavier in my opinion, offers high quality and more features for quite a bit less money.

How do I turn off the vocals to just listen to the piano music?

Although you can turn down or off the vocals and/or piano parts individually, I think it is best to just find the many piano only songs that are available if that's what you want. For many of the songs that contain vocals, the piano part is played differently to accompany the vocalist. If you just turn down the vocals on those songs, you may not even recognize the song as the pianist typically would play the melody along with the vocalist singing. So the best answer to your question would be to just play the piano only songs. Thank you for the good question!

Does this system require a monthly or yearly subscription?

These pianos come with a nice package of over 500 songs which is expandable but, you do not need a subscription for those songs. If you would like to stream many other channels of music and enjoy Disklavier TV, there is a charge of only few hundred a year for Disklavier Radio which is totally worth it. That subscription does include the Disklavier TV content too.

Can this technology be added to a Yamaha C3X TA2?

Disklavier pianos are only made to be Disklaviers at the factory. Yamaha does not make a retrofit player system for any pianos as Disklaviers are made with some extra design that goes into those pianos at the factory. We do carry QRS and PianoDisc player systems are can be installed into almost any piano however. This would be the way to go if you currently want a piano to be turned into a player piano. We can order a Yamaha C3X Disklaviers or almost any U series or YUS uprights as Disklaviers. Sad part of that is almost a year or better to get one after an order right now. Yamaha can't seem to keep up with demand for these pianos since Covid times.

Just using a standard iPad in this case that's a few generations old actually. You can use your phone, laptop etc. Very flexible. You just need to download the free Enspire app by Yamaha for your device.
