The myth about POD being oversaturated really needed to be busted. There's still so much opportunity if you're willing to put in the work!
@WholesaleTed3 ай бұрын
Haha. I mean, it is a super strange thing to say, to be honest. POD cannot be saturated. That is an impossible thing to happen. So anyone saying "POD is saturated" should not be listened to, because they are saying something that they clearly don't understand. POD is a form of fulfillment & production. It is merely a way to make/pick/pack/ship products. It isn't POD that can be saturated. So yes I totally agree with you, that phrase needs to be shelved, lol! It is certain, specific products and certain, specific niches that can become "saturated" - and even then, the phrase "saturation" merely means that there is increased competition. People who release a great product into a "saturated" market will still win, but the bar is higher due to more choices. I've released plenty of products into "saturated" niche markets and they have gone on to become strong sellers for me, because the product I made was good enough to compete with the current selection. Sorry to hijack onto your comment. This reply wasn't to criticize you. It was to criticize people that make KZbin comments saying nonsense like that. LOL
@katlis3 ай бұрын
@@WholesaleTed Like you said, "the bar is higher due to more choices." And it will get higher and higher. So I think the argument of POD being oversaturated these days is fair. As it becomes easy to clone these POD products, it makes it much harder for even the big players to grow, or even sustain consistent profit.
@WholesaleTed3 ай бұрын
@@katlis As I said, I do think it is fair to say that a product, or a niche is "saturated" (although I did temper that by saying I think people still misinterpret what saturation means - it just means a lot of choices, hence more competition) but that you cannot say POD is saturated. POD is a fulfillment method and production method. Those cannot be saturated. Products/niches get saturated. Not fulfillment methods. Which is why if people want to discuss saturation, they need to get specific about which products and niches they think have a lot of competition, rather than making a blank statement that POD is saturated, when it literally can't be, LOL! 🙏

@@WholesaleTed "POD is a fulfillment method and production method. Those cannot be saturated." -- If you're talking about the actual POD companies/manufacturers, they are loving this explosion of etsy, redbubble, etc shops that are easily launched (for free) in an hour now thanks to AI art. The actual POD companies embrace the oversaturation of any products they have to offer, which are generally the same across the board for every one of them (especially popular items like tshirts, mugs, etc).

Question: if you offer any customisation, does it mean that you go to Canva or your design software and each time create a new file, then manually upload it to the order to substitute default file? Or it can be done somehow automatically? And that is not only for such bottles but other types of products (cups, t-shirts, jewelry etc). Why still haven’t done a pod shop is that it seems expensive to start with. As it is a learning curve to figure out the workflow and design.

@@WholesaleTed so just out of interest if I run a store and by chance I get 5k worth of orders I need to have 5k on my card or the orders will fail? I thought the whole point of print on demand is that the money is taken out of the customers purchase and the difference minus cost was sent to you? otherwise whats the actual benefit here? would you mind explaining please?
@WholesaleTed3 ай бұрын
That is not the point of Print On Demand at all, and it isn't what the true advantage of Print On Demand is - there are many major advantages, but that is not one of them- although it makes sense as to why people new to the industry think that, so I completely understand. If you get 5k worth of orders (in terms of it's product cost - so in reality, that would be $7-10k worth of orders, but 5k in terms of products bought from the provider) then yes, you need to pay for that $5k, upfront, before production can begin. It is impossible for providers to take the money out of what the customer paid. Why? Because the customer never paid them anything. If you were running your payments through Printed Mint, then sure - the customer pays Printed Mint $30, then they could remove the cost of production, and then pay you the difference as profit. But that isn't what is happening here. The payment processor isn't being run by Printed Mint. It is being run by Etsy, or Shopify. It is Etsy and Shopify that have the payment processors, and it is them processing payments. They don't have a contract with Printed Mint. They have a contract with YOU, the owner. So they can only pay YOU the money the customer paid you. So, it generally takes 1 week or less for me to get the money the customer paid because payment processes like Etsy & Shopify need to process payments, but I still need to cover that $5k cost upfront. For me, I use a credit card. This gets me enormous amounts of travel miles for free. I use a credit card, I pay for the orders on that, then I pay them off once the money lands 1 week later. I never pay interest on my credit card: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2q9gJynrdqAqck So therefore, I consider it an advantage, not a disadvantage, that I handle upfront payments. If I didn't, I wouldn't get free credit card rewards. But there are many, many other advantages to Print On Demand. Namely, you don't have to actually print any of the items yourself. Do you want to have to store mugs at your house, then print the design onto them, and then package them up, and then go to the post office and ship them out? Probably not, lol 😉 not only is that expensive to set up, it is time consuming and expensive to run your own print shop. By using Print On Demand companies, you can just pay them to utilize their printing facilities, and let them handle all of that for you. That is the advantage of Print On Demand. Being able to sell your own items that you design yourself, without having to actually make or ship them yourself 🌞🙏
@ashleymartin65213 ай бұрын
@@WholesaleTed thank you for explaining 😀I am just wondering whether my credit card will allow hundreds of transactions? I am guessing you can credit your account at printed mint with one lump payment to cover off multiple purchases so it doesn’t seem like fraud with the credit card provider ?

Hi Sarah, I've come across several articles suggesting that POD (Print on Demand) is no longer viable for newbies in 2024. Is there truth to this? I'm sure I'm not the only beginner wondering about this.
@WholesaleTed3 ай бұрын
It is a good question. Whenever anybody says something like that, it's my pet peeve haha because that honestly doesn't even make any sense and anyone saying that shouldn't be listened to IMHO because I just don't think they understand what POD is. Print On Demand is just another form of production and fulfillment. That is like saying that wholesale production is no longer a viable way to earn money. That makes no sense! It is all about what products you choose to produce that determines how beginner friendly the products you create and sell are. Print on demand is no different. If you choose to use it to manufacture the same t-shirt designs that 50 other people are selling then absolutely that will be difficult to sell. But if you choose to fill a gap in the market, then that's a different story. That's how I was able to make my new print on demand store a success in six months: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2q9gJynrdqAqck Anyone saying this sort of thing, anyone correlating a production and fulfillment method with the products themselves doesn't know what they are talking about. As harsh as that sounds, I don't mean to be harsh, but it is a crazy thing to say because it literally makes no sense, haha 🙏 these are the same people that ridiculously say "print on demand is saturated" when it literally cannot be saturated. Only products can be saturated in a localized market. Not production and fulfillment methods 🙏

I don't have many traffic videos because the way KZbin's algorithm works, it is not a topic that would get many views and it would hurt my channel to make it, unfortunately. I do have a video on Etsy traffic however: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGTNdmWng9lmf5o I also go more in-depth in my course too if you do ever join, since there I don't have a YT algorithm impacting the videos I can make, lol! In terms of Shopify vs. Etsy that is a topic I also discuss in my course. But basically, Etsy is great if you want a marketplace with pre-existing traffic to piggyback off of. Very beginner friendly. Shopify is great if you're willing to drive traffic to your own website. Better returns & profit margins. Neither is better. They are just different. A good mix is often to combine Etsy with your own ecommerce. I do not recommend Wiz or Squarespace as they have clunky, badly made ecommerce features. Shopify out of those is the only one I would recommend.

I thought the same thing. I would never have believed so many people would actually choose to drink out of what looks like a rinsed out pickles jar lol!

@@doyouknowthings Ha! I'm a massive repurposer so could prob drink out of a rinsed pickle jar (plus love vinegar). I meant the muddled chaotic design, but hope it wasn't Ted's design. (I don't think so, hers seem cleaner.) If that's for self care, that design would send many people into a ADHD / psychotic spin.

I got all excited but alas - doesn't work in Canada for Shopify. They do have some amazing items though!
@WholesaleTed3 ай бұрын
That is odd, they let me integrate it into my NZ based Shopify store I setup for this video! But in saying that, if your target audience is Canada, I wouldn't want to use Printed Mint anyway. I'd recommend trying to find a local Canadian based POD supplier to drastically reduce shipping expenses/headaches.

@@WholesaleTed - this is the challenge and why I haven't published my Shopify store yet. There are hardly any suppliers in Canada so I have to pick elsewhere but the shipping costs are insane. Velveteen blanket from Printify - $68 in shipping! I'm starting to think I'll never be able to get going with shipping costs holding me back.

so how does it work? like you design something and put it in the store, then they charge you for the product when someone buys it? I though the customer paid for it?

U have old videos about taxes on dropshipping using aliexpress. Can u do a video about how to handle printify taxes for international sellers like yourself targeting usa market. I read printify notes, something about resale certificate for tax exemption. Of course, i can check with printify but it will b clearer with your explanation. And also how to to handle sales tax in shopify later. Bcos i understand etsy sellers is much easier for them as etsy will take care of sellers' sales tax. But what about shopify sellers?? Tq

Do they only operate in the U.S?

They only have production facilities in the USA, but they shipped for me worldwide.

is it too late to start on POD?

Not in the slightest. I'll have a video addressing that question coming out soonish (probably 1-2 months, sorry, my videos have a long production timeline)

This was a great video and I will definitely look into them. Does anyone know about any other POD companies that offer items not as popular, such as luggage and dishware (that work with Etsy)?

Hi Wholesale Ted, thank you for clear information always, just one querry, how you got around the fact that Printed Mint only allows connection to shopify if the business address is in the USA? Im in NZ and of course had my 'business' address as home and in NZD , what do you recommend here? Ah or actually is it because I am on Pause and Build currently and my payment gateways arn't open?

How long it took for you to receive your product ? I wonder how the shipping works if they are in US and we leave in NZ or Australia. :( would appreciate if you can share thank you x
@WholesaleTed2 ай бұрын
That is one of the reasons why I first started using POD suppliers, haha! My suppliers are based in the USA, it is irrelevant where I live. Where I live doesn't matter. My POD suppliers are in the USA, they produce my products therefore in the USA, and they therefore ship my products domestically within the USA to my USA customers. If I did that locally, I would have to ship from NZ to the USA which would mean my business would not be viable. When you use POD suppliers, your location doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is where your POD supplier is based.

So you can only sell thru Etsy or Shopify? Still looks like a game changer.

Do they make the candles in various scents?

Yes they do, they come in multiple scents. I ordered different scents and personally thought they all smelled very nice, but that is just a personal preference :)
