Glad you brought up Etsy. Not only is there a ton of work involved, but new stores now have to pay $15 to open and the chances of getting shut down permanently right off the bat are pretty high.

I am successful on ETSY. No shutdown. Don't try to sell trademarked items and you are good to go. Be original. It certainly takes all the hassle away with regards to customer service etc. passive means just that. Create product, list it and go. Check your statistics, do some advertising. It's not free. No real business is.

I set one up a couple years ago but haven't listed yet because I was originally going to try dropshipping but I like to go by the rules and there was so much info and I basically fizzled out as I work a few other jobs also to make ends meet. Hey sorry for just getting back to you on this, been slammed lately! I'll see if I can put together a new video with the best application tips, but here's the one I made previously and it all still holds true today: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXyzYXSFi8ecp5o The only main changes are that they've become more selective than years ago, a lot of it has to do with timing of application unfortunately, and that you can reapply as many times as needed by using a different email address (I've spoken to a lot of people now who have been accepted on their 2nd/3rd/7th/etc try applying with a different email address). Once you're in, you're in, and it's well worth it to spend the effort on the front end. If worst comes to worst and you can't get in, you can definitely still build up a very solid income stream from Teepublic and Redbubble alone.

Its been a relief to see that there is a difference between active and passive POD. I had no idea! All ive known about is the active model and honestly its been overwhelming to take the plunge. I could see myself starting the passive model in the next couple of weeks. One question: many gurus in the active model recommend setting up an LLC once things get going well. Is that needed for the passive model? Seems to me like its more gig or commission based kinda like DoorDash. What do you recommend and do you have a video addressing this topic? I am very interested in the Amazon Merch site. My wife buys a ton to clothes and tshirts for the kids but i hear it can be hard to get accepted. Any more detailed info on them is appreciated as well.
@GregGottfried
@GregGottfried 2 ай бұрын
I totally agree, and that's great to hear it's helpful seeing the difference. Great question on the LLC. In short, no you don't need one for Passive POD, but once you get to $50k/yr profit, it starts to be beneficial in keeping things organized. Here's a video on that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJO5XpSto5afpMk If you run into any questions as you get rolling just let me know!

@@GregGottfried Do you need to make a business name on Merch by Amazon? Should I use my personal Amazon account or set up a new account with business email even if I'm not an LLC? Can that even be done without getting into trouble with the gov for selling under another name, etc? So many nuances and variables! I found your video from 4 yrs ago on how to get accepted. Any new info on that front?
@GregGottfried

No worries! With print on demand, we're more like a freelancer being paid commissions or royalties, rather than being the actual business ourselves (that's the POD websites themselves). So you can come up with your own name, you don't have to formally register it or anything. And you can use personal email addresses and all. I hope that's helpful!

One of the things that I have learned from Greg is that when you follow his advice to carefully choose a low competition sub-niche, then create 20-40 designs for that niche, you WILL get noticed/on the first few pages. If you pick a high competition niche, then you will definitely get lost in the abyss!

It's against the Terms of Service. If Amazon finds out, they can (and will) terminate your account. I've been a MBA seller since 2017 and have seen this from people many times. There is sort of a loophole in that an Amazon Merch account could be counted as a business asset, and if you sell the business then the Merch account goes with it but I don't know how well that works because I don't personally know anyone whose done it.

@MrMontanaNights
@MrMontanaNights 4 сағат бұрын
@@GregGottfried No, it doesn't. Nothing about the process is automatic. I've had a TeePublic account since 2018. Got downgraded last November simply because they are greedy. No reason to otherwise downgrade an account that was making hundreds of dollars a month using unique, niche-specific designs that sold very well. It's a bit insulting that they downgraded me in fact, considering I'm a professional artist with a proven track record of making them money. In 2022 they even assigned me a personal "assistant" to help me upload more stuff, only for them to downgrade me a year later. They've shot themselves in the foot with this policy.

@GregGottfried
@GregGottfried 2 ай бұрын
Great question. If you made the design yourself, you technically own the copyright to it informally by being the original work creator. This means if someone copies your design, you can email the POD website and report it. They will look to see that you uploaded it first, and that it is in fact a copy, and they will remove it. If you wanted to go further, you can formally protect your designs for about $500 each with the government.. I've done it in the past and I dont recommend it.. The only difference is if you need to go to court (would not likely ever get to this point), you would be able to show proof of formal protection filed. I hope that makes sense and helps!

Hello Dear, Can you help me with an information. I can upload the same design in both websites(1,2,3).

Yes, you can! All 3 that @GregGottfried mentions - TeePublic, RedBubble, & Amazon Merch on Demand - you can upload the same designs to all 3 of them!! So each design can be getting 3x the traffic!

How often should I upload a design for t shirts is it 1 design per week or more?
@MrMontanaNights
@MrMontanaNights 4 сағат бұрын
If you want to be successful you need to upload as many as you can until you start to gain traction. 1 per week is way to low if you hope to see any real money from the process.

Hey Greg is tee spring out in your opinion. You don't talk about tee spring no more.

Can you choose to run traffic yourself to your teepublic store?
@MrMontanaNights
@MrMontanaNights 4 сағат бұрын
Yes, there's no reason not to. In fact, it's pretty much required if you're just starting out as TeePublic doesn't add your stuff to the search indexing until you're not an Apprentice tier.

I hear you! Have been rejected twice and I could do with knowing how essential Amazon Merch is to the POD strategy Greg shares. Am hoping he does a video on this!
