It's wild how the two maneuvering weaknesses of this thing, low-speed roll and turn circle, make this thing relatively bad in one-circle turn fights, but the engine power let's it climb over the enemy's nose so often that many props can't even take advantage of this "weakness" unless you're both spiralling to the deck.

Correct thing here would be increase tickets by 50% and make match time 10 minutes longer.

J7W1 Yeah it doesn't turn at all but when you roll and turn as quickly as possible in the same time, you become unpredictable that these su-11 cancers won't even hit anywhere near you. The issue is, that you don't outrun it, you don't outclimb it, you don't outturn it. But if pilot is stupid enough to not dodge head-on, you almost always get the kills on them. Probably because they think there is no stronger armament than su-11's (J7W1's 4x 30mm only HEF-T shotgun vs Su-11's 2x 23mm + 37mm) at 6.0 - 8.0. As I said, they're cancers

I swear the p-51h is the fastest piston prop in the game, literally my all time favorite plane. Thanks for revisiting the p-51h. Edit: I'm talking about both sea level and high alt. Playing it in arcade mode is just absolutely wild, I can get it up to 470 on the deck which is insane. And going up to high alt I've reach just barely over 500mph. The p-51h was literally designed as a big improved version of the D variant, better engine, higher speed, climb rate, agility, etc. Only thing that it probably doesn't have over the D is landing gear durability and also it's lightweight body can't deal with damage as good. This literally is the god form of all props in my opinion. Now since it never made it to any conflicts, it wasn't really used. I'm guessing Gaijin did give a little more as a prop since they probably had some idea that the p-51h was supposed to be REALLY fucking good. Anyways Do-335 can stay losing

@@disswt Ok I'll do a little testing. So hornet can do 665 ish at sea level, spitfire mk24 does about 605, p51h is also about 665, f8f1b can do 660, do335 will do about 600. I'm testing some more but those are probably the best parts of it. Curious which is actually faster between hornet and p51h, the hornet seemed to get there easier to me but that could be wrong. Either way, I think you undervalue medium altitude speed, like what you get right after your climb. While it may not be as important as your low altitude speed(depending on how you play) it's also pretty important.

I LOVE this plane. It's got good climb, speed, turn rate, and armament. Most of my kills with this thing are the damned Ju 288s. I am also proud to say that I've claimed at least five or six jet kills, including the 262. I don't know the EXACT number, so I'm keeping it low. One of my more slower matches with this plane was against the Germans in Air RB. I got into a rolling scissors/vertical dogfight with a 109 G before I finally got my guns on him and set him on fire. Near the end of the match, it was only myself, a strike aircraft, and a bomber, vs. 1 288 that was in orbit. I make the decision to do a spiraling climb to reach the 288, slowly reaching his altitude before I knocked him out of the sky. I opt for the universal/tracer belts, depending on what I think I'm going up against. But mostly I go for the tracers just for the light show and setting planes on fire :)

Spiteful would indeed be a close contender. Its a little slower than the P-51H at low altitudes (which is where it matters in game) with the Spiteful Mk.14 going 658km/h and the Mk.16 (one off prototype) going around 670 km/h at sea level (vs the P-51H's 678km/h), and has more draggy radiators (which given that anything with griffon engine in game overheats quite a bit is a factor). It would also be worse than the P-51H in a dogfight most likely, because its a bit heavier and has a worse wing loading, and the climb should be about the same, but it would have better guns, and infinite WEP.

@@John.McMillan Yak-9P is one of my favorite planes, I'm absolutely a 9P enjoyer, and while Defyn is most certainly being somewhat hyperbolic when he says "Well it's just shit." He's not entirely wrong. The yak-9P in terms of performance at it's BR (excluding uptiers) is not too great. The yak-9U outdoes it 0.3 BR lower in every category except armament. I think the performance being worse than the 9U, with the better guns like the 23mm requiring less time with guns on target for a kill as well as the 5.0 cucked matchmaker create a unique playstyle for the 9P

there is a super sneaky trick to slow down in props and make others overshoot you, use manual engine controls and set the prop pitch to 100% so when you cut the throttle the prop acts as an air brake, and if you need to accelerate again, well the prop pitch is at 100% so you're set.

Something I’ve noticed, that causes tickets to bleed very fast, is the AI attackers just crashing somewhere at roughly the same time. Not sure why they do this, it could be they’re taking damage from AA and eventually falling out of the sky, or maybe they’re just incredibly poorly coded and crash after dropping their bombs.

This is due to damage overtime and fuel leaks caused from anything that hits them. Their flight models are actually way more susceptible to getting shot even from rifle calibers due to them being bound to the server (0 ping, 0% packet loss, perfect hitreg). If we had LAN dedicated servers, the game would be TREMENDOUSLY more lethal, as from a 3.5kg burst, on 160 ping / 0.5% PL you might get around 1.8kg of mass hitting a plane. But on 0ms, the entirety of the bullets are hitting the same place at the same time and doing lots of damage. You can notice this with slow rounds, like MK108. Sometimes it absolutely explodes the plane you are shooting and sometimes it just "near misses" by a milimiter or you get "sparks" or "explosion puffs" with no damage, which is mostly due to extremely small percentages of packet loss AND ping combined. You are hitting them on your screen but the plane is a few inches off on the server, either overshoots them or undershoots them (server-wise). 0.5% PL and 160ping is a huge difference from the bots, which if they take a single burst of 7.62 they get leaks, either fuel or water or oil everywhere. You can notice that most of them are trailing some kind of smoke from the engines very early in the match, every match. If you have graphics settings turned on, you can see a few engines busted at like 7 minute mark, as they maintain 100% throttle while overheating to death. That damage eventually leads to engine failure, which the bots deal with horribly.

I am learning so much from these videos but I still struggle understanding the aircraft. I am trying to hop between nations as I grind their tech tree to get an understanding of how each plane plays. But I can't really figure out their playstyle just from looking at their stats. Is there a cheatsheet out there that can tell me which plane is a good turn fighter, or energy fighter compared to their peers in the same rank? Also I think I have figured how to play energy fighters, and I am having some success playing them at my rank, but I can't figure out how to play a turn fighter. Do I just try to cut off their flight path and evade their guns with my superior turning? It's hard for me to understand the win condition of each plane still, knowing it would help a lot.

warthunder wiki and sometimes reddit posts can help you with a new aircrafts playstyle. keep an eye on the date it was said though as the game changes over time. Turn fighters are basicaly what you said. You cant catch them in a straight line but you can outturn them. this means you dont try and catch them, then dodge their gun run and trun onto their sox and shoot. if they try and turn with you you win easily, an if they dont hope your teammates help. the warthunder stat cards are crap, dont rely on them for anything except getting a general gist of a vehicle because a lot of the information is wrong and/or misleading.

You did a interesting examination of a close (yet utterly inferior) ancestor of the praise worthy yak-9P, the yak-3P, and what we discovered here through your frankly surface level examination of the 3P, is that it's utterly inferior to the 9P. Let's just say that yak-3P were instead a 9P, things would have turned out a little bit differently. Do you use some custom camera controls? I see a lot of people in clips move the camera around and still manouver perfectly. Whenevr im in a fight i lose track of the enemy because i dont know how to fly and look at the same time.

No. The Mk.24 is quite a bit slower in level flight speed and has a worse climb rate if the P-51H is climbing with WEP. Better turn/roll/maneuverability doesn't matter when the other plane can out climb and out run you with ease.

@@LordGangrel 28 to 30 isn't insurmountable but it is a fairly difficult difference to overcome. Especially when the faster climbing aircraft is also faster. Problem is that the P-51H is over 30. It is somewhere around 31-32. The actual difference is closer to 3-4m/s. I gave 2 because it is more conservative in favor of the Spit.

If the P-51H has WEP it can outclimb and effortlessly out run the Mk.24. If it doesn't have WEP it outruns the Mk.24 but not by much and that is it. For 7 and a half minutes the P-51H is the best prop there is in the game.

The Regular F8F? Nah, that's like asking to have a cactus shoved up your ass. That thing somehow has worse flight performance than the 1B, and of course, worse guns. You need to further hinder the F8F if you want to have decent firepower. Which is carrying the gun pods

10:00 here's another analogy in case somehow you have viewers that don't get it, imagine playing Chess and it's an auto win when you get like 10 points of material advantage(aka a queen and a pawn, or 2 rooks, for eg). Sure there's a super high chance of winning but the game hasn't even been decided yet, the game basically denies a great player the chance to salvage a game(which is very much possible). At the same time there isn't bullshit AAA on the chessboard. Unless you're referring to that channel with the ICBM gambit.
