Companies like Microsoft want it to die so they can make more money from their game pass service, so essentially you don’t own your games you rent them and they can be taken away at any point in time (leaked Xbox series X digital edition), but I hold out hope that Sony continues to make consoles with a disc drive or optional disc drive extension because it gives you more options of where you can buy your games and once the digital store close you can still buy disc based games, if they take away discs for consoles then you will only have one option of where to purchase games which is the digital store which has higher prices than disc games. Essentially nothing good comes from an all digital future, PC is different because there’s multiple storefronts but consoles should always have a disc drive, if not piracy will happen because if there’s no discs and no digital store front people will pirate the games instead.

Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all have digital services. Unfortunately digital purchases makes up over 80% of the market currently. It wouldn't shock me to see completely digital consoles next generation. Perhaps Nintendo holds out longer because they're Nintendo. @@Dano_116

Microsoft has had success with Game pass, but it seems to have nuked the sales numbers for their games compared to Sony and Nintendo. Weird strategy if ya ask me. As for PC, I miss physical games there. Used to love seeing those big boxes for computer games and you could even buy used copies and resell them. Microsoft's Xbox Series X refresh is supposedly this year and is completely disc-less. Sony already has a disc-less PS5. I hope they at least give the option. @@Dano_116

another titles that showed low frame rates and stutter in ps3 other than exclusives most games ran at 1080p but had lower textures, anti lansing barely present in ps3 more brown and grey textures and colors than the 360 entirely, and this games us on my shelf next to oblivion on ps3 that runs better in the 360 cause my dsd owns both. Sorry not sorry someone who played both consoles alot cod, battlefield, god of war, halo, gears, resistance, kill zone, in terms of lag, stutter, visuals and optimization ps3 never ran as good as xbox except it good do actual 1080p on cod battlefield etc

I still play my PS3 and never had a PS4 or PS5. I will have and play that console for ever along with other older consoles. Things important to mention: Motorstorm Pacific Rift and Apocalypse have split screen 4 player multiplayer you can play offline. Other games that use this are Ridge Racer 7, Blur, and of course, Gran Turismo 5. WarHawk is multiplayer only yes, but you can still to this day play split screen OFFLINE. In Unchated 3 you can play the multiplayer mode, again, split screen OFFLINE. Call Of Duty games here, can be played offline with friends by split screen and Black Ops 1 and 2 can be played with bots with various difficulty, World At War is the only one with split screen CAMPAIGN and Modern Warfare 2 has Spec Ops (offline multiplayer based on missions) and Modern Warfare 3 has SURVIVAL (waves of increasly difficult enemies come for us to kill on one life) which you can play... guess what... OFFLINE with multiplayer split screen. This offline multiplayer modes are the win factor for me because they last... FOREVER. 😁

Bought the original ps3 when it came out, and felt a certain type of way just owning it let alone playing it. Ive never had the same feeling owning any other console since then. I have Heavenly Sword, Uncharted 1-3, Killzone 2 and 3, Motorstorm 1 and Pacific Rift, Infamous 1 and 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1-3, Black Ops, Resistance 1-3(i love Resistance), Ratchet and Clank Future Tools of Destruction, Tomb Raider, sold God of War 3, Batman Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and Origins, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Assassin Creed 2, SSX, Fallout 3, etc... "When Sony announced the price of the PS3 at $600, most gamers told Sony they were crazy at that price..." Not me. I was week 1 purchaser of the 60GB version. In fact, having built-in PS2 backwards compatibility means I was able to have Final Fantasy 11 installed and running on it as a backup to my Windows XP gaming laptop and one time I was supposed to be chaperoning a wedding inside FF11, my laptop got fried by a glass of spilled milk and I had to log in on my PS3 as a backup. At $600, I recognized that I wasn't just buying a game console - I was also buying my first Blu-ray player and stand-alone units were still at the time being sold for over $1000. I knew what I was paying for and even though I DID eventually start having graphics issues with it around 2013-2014 and I backed up all my data and traded it in for a PS3 slim, I don't think my money was wasted. This was my Blu-ray movie player for the better part of a decade and a fantastic gaming console to boot.

I really appreciate it! That Wolverine game runs a bit pricey these days. Probably around $30 or so for a complete copy. The game can get a bit repetitive after a while, but still loads of fun. Rated M was definitely the right choice.

I play with my PS3 everyday. Once you "unlock it" with HEN or CFW I can say it's got to be one the best console to have today, PS3, PS2, PS1 games, most of old consoles and platforms like NES, SNES, PSP. Some PS3 games still have online like Call of Duty MW2 and so much more...

Under my TV, I have my PS5 and my PS3. I have all PS and handheld but they are the two I play the most. PS3 is still such a great console and games are pretty cheap on the whole….. at the moment.

Reason why I say it is because Sony is already sort of testing the water. The PS5 slim has a removeable disc drive and around 90% of their content that was purchased last quarter was digital content. I hope they stay with physical as an option as long as possible though. @@amnril

nostalgia usually hits around the 20 year mark. The ps3 came out in dec 2006, so around 2027-2028 is when will probably see a spike in prices for a lot of these games. So if u really want to collect any game at a cheap price, now is the time to do so before they start to climb. Most ps1-ps2 games are already increasing in high prices and the ps3 wont be far behind.

Emulators aren't the same as collecting or playing on original hardware. In fact, PS3 emulation isn't great, which is why there's no backwards compatibility with PS3 games.

One game I would recommend if you haven’t heard of it already it’s called I am alive. It is a digital only game, but it is such a good one and it was made by Ubisoft. It’s a story driven game based in post apocalyptic earth where you’re trying to find your daughter. Climbing mechanics with stamina bar and the thing they got me hooked into it was when we have an encounter with some bad guys and you have a gun but you have no bullets but you can point the guns at the bad guys and bluff pretty much saying I’ll shoot you if you don’t come near me even though you don’t have any bullets. I thought that was really innovative and if you haven’t heard of it, I’d recommend you take a look at it. it’s really fun maybe 10 bucks on the digital store I can’t remember.

I really enjoyed Beyond: Two Souls, but it's just a shame that the controls weren't handled as well as with Heavy Rain. In Heavy Rain everything expected of you was crystal clear, and in Beyond, it just was too often very vague.

Assassins creed 1 and 2 and revelations red dead tombraider remake by square Enix fifa 14 are awesome to get and play on the ps3 3rd party games felt better on ps3 for alot of reasons

I wish the BC console wasn't so expensive, and hard to find these days. I could get one for $500, but it'll be the weaker 80gb version. Rather have the 60gb, but I'm not paying that much for that old of a console. I recently picked up a super slim for $160 on Amazon. Bought over 30 games so far, and most weren't that cheap. Spec Ops the Line was $65 for a refurbished copy. And most unless you take a gamble on other used categories. You're gonna spend some money. It is so worth it though, and I have a PS5. Next on my list is a PS2 slim, hands down the best console Sony ever made imo. My wife's gonna kill me though lol 🤷

My love for the ps3 is such a double edged sword. The early ports were pretty awful. Then the first party games started come out and really show what it can do. Then towards the end of the life cycle is when it got really good. MLAA was developed, developers figured out coding for CELL. You got games like the Last of Us, which should not have run on that kind of hardware. Its a console I love dearly and still play to this day.

This list really miss one game. That is Folklore. Game is exclusive on PS3, have very interesting controls (where you have to pull souls of enemies using sixaxis controller), quite unique gameplay and interesting story. It is really unique RPG. And this game was never released in digital version, just on the disc. So it is collectors item. It was not easy to get a copy in to collection :) And this game really goes up in price even now.

Could argue PS3 had more unique exclusives. Sony was certainly taking chances with their games at that point. Now, not so much. So it's probably more of a fan want than a Sony want.

i have ps2 and ps3 for the ps2 i got 60 games like DBZ budokai tenkaichi 3, or black, scarface, gta vice city stories,MOH rising sun, def jam fight for ny, and for the ps3 i got now 81 games like persona 4 arena ultimax, killer is dead, orochi Z,Deadly Premonition Director's Cut, cod black ops 2/world at war, godfather 1 the dons edition, lolipop chainsaw, MOH airborne, bleach soul resurraccion, samurai warriors 4 , yakuza 4 , we wil never get games like these anymore

I'd say it's considered a failure by Sony because they lost over 6 billion dollars on it. They also had 90% market share with the PS2 and that dropped a ton with the PS3 because Xbox 360 was about equal with PS3 and Wii sold over 100 million units.

@@thegamethrifter could of been my led TV as well, I'm not gonna lie when I went from playing on our CRT to A1080P. LED I noticed that seventh gin wasn't fully prepared for full 1080P. I think more and more are getting lost though, even if you can download them somewhere. Not everyone has that ability. Personally, I like to play the original titles on original hardware. Emulators aren't really the same experience to me. Whenever I've played a game that way there's always something off about it.
