Coop, just flip the ceiling mounted one over. It will mount both ways. I believe you mounted it upside down to make it lower for the sake of jumping up to grab it. Just flip it over and use your plyo box to reach it.

Good video review! During the COVID-19 gym closure, pull-ups were my primary stay-at-home exercise routine. I’d like to share my experiences for CONDO / APARTMENT pull-up equipment. For a CONDO / APARTMENT, the first choice (but a bad one) is going to be a doorway pull-up bar. In the beginning, doorway pull-up bars are great, but constant use over time will cause the pull-up bar to suddenly fall off. One of the main support is the back top door frame trim jamb. If it fails, there’s NO safeguard. The pull-up bar will fall off. In many homes, especially condos / apartments, the door frame trim jamb is only a decorative piece of wood nailed to the drywall with two or three nails or tacks. When using the pull-up bar, you are pushing it up and pulling it down. It might be only a slight movement, but it does create a pile-driving force. If you have any body swing, this adds to the pile-driving force. Doorway trims are NOT designed, constructed, or intended for that kind of stress or load. If you are using a retaining clip on the back top doorway trim jamb, this concentrates the force and acts like a pry bar. After repeated use, the top door frame trim jamb will crack and pull off the wall door frame resulting in the pull-up bar suddenly falling off. In most cases, it will happen unexpectedly when you’re hanging from it and the consequences could result in significant injury. You will also have damaged the door frame. If you have a commercial door with a metal frame as in this video, the doorway pull-up bar should be fine. The second choice is the wall hanging pull-up bar. A stud finder is needed, but in a CONDO / APARTMENT, the wall studs are too narrow and spaced too far apart. I thought that there would be a big wall stud over my interior bedroom door, but I was wrong. The drywall over my interior door looks like its been riddled with a machine gun since it has so many holes after trying to unsuccessfully find and hang a wall pull-up bar. If I had a garage and/or a home with *exposed* studs / beams, the wall hanging pull-up bar would be my #1 choice. My third and final solution for a CONDO / APARTMENT pull-up bar was the Go Beast free standing pull-up rack. It’s NOT perfect, but it’s easy to assemble and disassemble. My only real complaint is that the crossbar is too thick for my hands so it’s harder and tiring to grip. I ended up attaching a thinner crossbar and gymnastic rings. It didn’t take up as much space as I expected in my CONDO / APARTMENT unit. I have it in my living room. Whenever I'm watching a TV show, when a commercial comes on, I do 5 to 10 pull-ups. This allows me to do my daily quota of 50 pull-ups per day.

Thank you for this video! Your comparison videos are my favorite! The ones that hook onto the door don’t really work for everyone so I was hoping that you would feature better freestanding options for folks that live in apartments. I used to have a gold's gym door pull up bar. It was okay. It'd flex a little doing close grip chins and that was when I was around 145. I really liked my homemade pull up bar I had built at one of my homes outside in the backyard. 2 4x4s, a 72" galvanized pipe, flanges and hardware, 2 buckets, couple bags of quick Crete for like 100 bucks. Gymnastic rings are the cheapest and most versatile. You can use them inside or outside on a basketball goal, tree branch, etc.

I have a door pull-up bar that uses a wedge system. You put it in your doorway and when weight is applied, it wedges the bar in. No screws needed. I use it with a set of rings (and climbing slings for quick height adjustment) for pushups, dips, pullups, etc.
@bradenalexander1568
@bradenalexander1568 Жыл бұрын
yea i just bought one off amazon, the flybird. It works, but unfortunately its cracking my girlfriend's door frame from the immense amount of pressure it applies outwards, so its back to the drawing board. The wedge bars are recommended for very solid, large hard wood frames, or concrete. Anything less than that, which are most households, will likely see some damage from the nature of how the bar functions.

I purchased the XMark muti-grip wall mount pull up bar. It's outstanding. When it arrived I immediately noticed the quality is really good. One of the selling points i chose XMark was cause it had the most bolts for installation. I bolted it into a concrete wall with Tapcon bolts & can probably swing over a thousand pounds from it. It was one of the more pricey bars at $190 but well worth it, especially considering it's never going anywhere.

Are you able to do a drop test gym floor comparison to see if dropping weights will damage concrete flooring? E.g. dropping loaded barbells with bumper plates and dumbells etc. I know you’ve done a video comparing gym flooring like horse stall mats etc. but it’ll be great to see them go through the ringer! Thanks!

I've used the doorway one for years and never had it slip but the doorway trip / paint does eventually get a little wear so be careful! I still worry that it might fall or slip (skull breaker) which is distracting... Best bet is a bolted on pull up bar if you're wanting to really get into the pullup game! Huge difference comparing the two Known someone who hangs from the doorway pullup bar and does situps - that's WAAAAY to much risk LOL

Best doorway pull-up bar is the “UD6” from a small company called “Easy Effort.” They make adjustable size doorway pull-up bars. They’re very high quality as well. I used one of them for years before I got my power rack. Also, the best pull-up bars for a power rack is a custom one from a custom manufacturer like Black Widow Training Gear. They made me a custom multi grip bar as well as a fully knurled, straight, raw steel bar.

7:55 For the ceiling mounted version, if you flip the bars 180 degrees on the short horizontal axis, you'll regain the use of the downward facing handles. If you flip it on the long horizontal axis, the holes might not line up, the short horizontal axis has the holes lined up already.

I had the jammer bar and that thing is awesome. I had to sell it due to moving over seas. I wanted to get it again but the price went up. I originally got it at $75 or $85 but shipping it to Hawaii was an extra $100+. Definitely recommend the jammer. Im also 250 and it supported me fine. Now, we are in a place that has a garage door so I can jump rope and workout without ppl seeing into the garage and the jammer wouldn't be a good fit but the titan most likely would.

I ended up just buying a Rogue Half-Rack for chinups with a matador attachment for dips. And then hang some rings. It looks ridiculous in my room but all the other options just didn't work in a condo with flimsy ass drywall. I needed something I could feel confident doing weighted chins and dips. A power tower cost almost as much and only a slightly smaller footprint, so why not just get a half rack so if I ever want to add a barbell I'm good.

I have bought several free standing pullup bars over the years after buying doorway pullup bars (which I hate because they are too narrow), personally I think the KT (khanh trinh) pull up bar meets my needs. It's strong and can be folded away. It may not be the best looking though but they provide a lot of options for height and footprint. First free standing unit I bought was really simple, took maybe six bolts and it was up. Well machined, and portable. But with portability, stability was sacrified. Certainly wouldn't do a kip on it, or lean too far forward or it would tip. It was also very expensive for what it could do. Next freestanding one, was similar to theTactical Athlete® Pull-up System. Considerably more stable, cheaper than the first one, but it required a lot of setting up and it took up a lot of room. The KT is the most stable IMO, also quietest, and probably the cheapest I''ve spent on freestanding pullup stations. The use of bolts for the side bars, and supporting side bars are ugly but you can certainly find workarounds or better alternatives. My only major gripe is that when its folded up it takes up a lot of height. So while it might be tall when in use with a lot of clearance, once folded it can be considerably taller.

One thing that I considered when purchasing a pull-up/chin-up bar were the dimensions of the bar. The door-mount pull-up bars had terrible dimensions. I chose a LEOGREEN wall-mount pull-up bar, because it was $40.00, and I could attach it to a 2x10 board that I fasten, when I need it, to my door frame. I needed something that did not require much storage space and could be removed when it is not being used, because of my wife, ha, ha. I purchased 5 nuts and galvanized 3/8" bolts, 10 washers, and 8 1.5" lag screws. It takes about 5 minutes to put up and take down, with a power drill and socket adapter bit. I, unfortunately, found the rogue bar option to be optimal, but $140.00 was too much money. The nuts, bolts, and lag screws were about $30.00, and I had the 2x10 already, so I have a pull-up bar that easily holds me, I am between 215-220. and is easy to put up and take down. Great review though! I think you were spot-on!

I was going to get a Rogue SML 2, but then I realised that with a wide grip, the poles on each side are in the way of the elbows. Same problem as doorways with a bar (unless you get one that comes out from the doorway). I'm thinking of getting the "KT folding stand frame" since it's a triangle shape on the sides as well, so the elbows have space. Then yea hanging Olympic rings from it. Can even bring the rings right up and use them that way instead of the actual bar. It's an adjustable big triangle, so it won't tip over with incline ring movements (would keep the rope/straps are short as possible for those movements, too, but it also has rubber feet). Other standing pull up bars have a way smaller footprint, so I worry about incline exercises a bit more (and don't really wanna have to weigh it down), and the Rogue is very bulky and serious, so the shipping worries me, and it's not really portable like the KT that can be folded up and out of the way. Easier to move to a different accommodation and shit. Not really looking to have a semi-home-gym in that kind of manner. Will see what I end up doing.

The people that make the yellow power tower (Stamina fitness I believe ) actually make another model that doesn’t have the box jump attachment that is significantly cheaper and yet also made really strong like that. That’s actually a much better model because it’s designed to go outside in the weather.That is really it’s forte. With just that one thing in your backyard you’ve got a complete calisthenics workout The main reason I didn’t care for the box temp attachment is you can’t stick your body through because that gets in the way.

Which wall mounted pull up bar would you advise for outdoors, Coop?

Yo Coop you should make a review on the "Speediance All in one smart home gym." It's very similar to Tonal and also has forms of cardio like rowing. I thought it looked ibteresting and you might too.

Lol, I like how the most replayed part is the Multi-grip pull up bar. We all know we want that for variation

I miss the wall mounts at my old high school. I have two pullup bars (one on my rack and one that I made before I bought my rack) and I like them both, but they don't feel as good as the memorable ones I used a while ago.

I’m surprised that the atom/rpm adjustable pull up bar wasn’t included. I was hoping to see your input on that bar as it seems like a good bar for family members of different heights.

I think the Jayflex options are much better for the doorway options. They wont damage the door frame and offer versatility for grip and width.

Nice rundown Coop! I can see why you did not give any love to the globe pullup bars, look cool, work your grip well, but not the best option for most people.

Hi Cory, one critical consideration for me when performing pull-ups is the bar diameter, I did not see anything in your review about the outside diameters (O.D.) of the bars. Maybe it's just me, but if the bar diameter is too narrow for my hand then it's more difficult to perform the exercise and I believe not good for the small ligaments, tendons and muscles in our hands. I don't know if there is a standard-size bar that all the manufacturers use. I do a lot of calisthenics and pull-ups and muscle-ups are a big part of my training and I find a 1.33" O.D. to be ideal for my hand. Thank you

What are the advantages of mounting it on the horizontal wood? Im about to hang mine onto a weak wall and was going to use wood mounted vertically now im questioning myself.
