I think the $30 difference in the Nasci and Miravel is well worth it considering the weight difference--a full ounce for their smallest 1000 series and a 1.3 oz difference in their 2500 and 3000 series. Not a deal breaker for fishing here and there or someone with 12 rods on their deck but certainly noticeable if fishing all day or for those getting older.
@Tightt884 күн бұрын
@@mike2687 reel weight isn’t everything. The rule of thumb is that if it’s lighter, it’s usually weaker and you never want a weaker spinning reel. This is due to how the frame supports the gears and if the frame is using a weaker material the gears can be miss aligned more easily. That’s why I don’t use Daiwa because they use low density graphite and now Shimano is starting to use it.

I suppose I'm a bit of an oddball in that I like Daiwa the best for casting reels and Shimano the best for spinning reels. It also seems like you guys think like me when it comes to spinning reels but apparently I'm a bit more bougie...in my case lowest I'll go is the Ultegra and the highest is the Vanford. JP DeRose actually did a comparison video between the Vanford and Miravel about a year ago that goes over the features of those two as well as the Nasci and the Ultegra and for the price difference I'd argue the Ultegra is at least worth it for the bump up to X-Protect and S-ARB bearings. The other improvements that you get with it when you spend just a bit more (micromodule 2, long stroke spool, one-piece bail etc.) are also probably useful both those two alone are enough to get me to drop a few more bucks for an Ultegra (especially when it's on sale). I absolutely love the new Vanford on my drop shot reel but I drop shot a LOT and so I'm willing to go up to that for the additional features and the weight difference. The rod I'm using for my drop shot also isn't exactly cheap, but again for a finesse technique like that if you are going to do it that much I'd argue it's worth it to go up to a Vanford but would also argue you get into diminishing returns after that point. For casting reels the Tatula SV TW seems like the overall best one out there in terms of bang for the buck right now. Daiwa has some others that I like and there are also a few Lew's models that I also think are a great value, but your buddy Debo already converted me into a Daiwa fan for casting reels a while ago. Cheers...and you guys should do more review videos this was a good one.

You definitely can take the Tatula SV TW 100 out of the box and go fishing but it’s a little misleading that Diawa says you never need to touch the tension dial. If you going from casting to pitching you will want to loosen the tension or the pitch will balloon on you.
@SkittyBitty602 күн бұрын
Surprisingly I never felt the need to adjust it on my sv 103. But after I took it apart and cleaned it it's a lot smoother and seems to have gained some casting distance. It's a year old so maybe it's just worn in now and some fresh grease didn't hurt either.
@helotaxi2 күн бұрын
I wouldn't make that adjustment on any other reel, why would I on any of the zero-just, be that a Tatula, Zillion or Steez. The magnetic brakes literally do everything on those reels. You need to back off the brakes, not the spool tension. The spool tension adjustment is literally only there on those reels to account for manufacturing tolerances and wear to the spool assembly over time.
@JB-ms9du2 күн бұрын
@@helotaxi not true bud. If the tension is loose your pitches and flips will remain closer to the water or ground throughout the “cast”. If the tension is too tight you will notice a small balloon effect at the end of the pitch…loosen the tension and the lure will stay down. I pitch/flip around every day whether I’m on the water on in my garage. If it has no use why even put the dial on the reel?

@OneHittr-24-72 күн бұрын
@aaanglers, but you'll spend hundreds to thousands buying cheap junk or knock-offs to see if it works. Essentially wasting money. Sometimes buying better things or more expensive just means it will last longer. Hence saving you money in the long run and easier on the pocketbook. Junk uses junk material. Companies put R&D into the pinnacle items so it can trickle down to the cheaper items. Maybe you can barrow the pinnacle items from a tackle shop . If you do it right the first time you'll never have to go back and do it the second time. I used to buy cheap also then I learned. I needed to budget to get better gear. Which made a difference to me in the long run in my pocketbook.

@@OneHittr-24-7 I'm a lover of high end tackle, reels in particular, but there is a point of diminishing returns for everyone when it comes to buying reels. I LOVE my Steez SV TW, but being as I don't have unlimited funds, I'd buy multiple Tatula SVs or Zillions before buying a second one. Once you cross a minimum quality threshold, each increase in "quality" up the rest of a brand's tier is both incrementally smaller and more costly. Everyone has their own point where it makes sense, to them, to spend the money to get to "X" level of performance/refinement/weight. And even if funds were unlimited, there are techniques where flagship reels just don't make the most sense. Yes, top tier reels last a really long time. So do mid-tier reels from reputable brands. There's a vast gulf between "junk" and a Calcutta Conquest.
@aaanglers2 күн бұрын
Yeah, no. We aren’t buying junk. We fully understand that some folks have that mindset, but there is a line where you can have a solid product that lasts a long time, works great and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Majority of things we use have been great and hold up just fine. Not sure where all the hostility came from but it’s completely unwarranted.
@OneHittr-24-72 күн бұрын
@@helotaxi yeah and that Calcutta conquest would last for generations of fishing past down from you to your kids. Because it's a refined reel. Sub 100$ reels wouldn't last 2-3 years or one season at best. Cheap reels are made to fish with break and throw away and buy another costing more money down the road. If I wasn't serious into fishingbor just getting started then I would've gone cheap like I have stated. In fact I did buy cheap and learned a valuable leason.lesson. at no point was I hostile towards you or the content creators. I was asking a question regarding better reels. I'm assuming they do have friends or have connections in tackle shops to ask if they can do a video on. After all didn't they do a kayak review on like 8 different kayaks . Which is way more expensive than reels. I'm just holding them to a standard they created for us in there videos.

The Kastking MG12 suffers from the same perception of lack of durability as something like a Shimano Aldebaran reel or Loomis/Shimano Conquest rod. It's so stinking light that it feels fragile. It isn't, but it's hard to shake that impression. Curado is what we get in the US market because the Curado fanboys refuse to demand better. I'd give them a 2 on value. I'm not saying that they are bad reels, because they aren't. I am saying that they are underspec'd and/or overpriced compared to what the rest of the world gets to buy. The Hagane body is just aluminum alloy. "Hagane" just means "metal" as contrasted to Ci4 (carbon composite) or some of their entry level polymer framed reels. Most every Shimano reel has an MGL III spool now so that's hardly anything special to a Curado. Micro Module gears are inherently less durable than larger toothed gears and not smoother, and that's the only real "upgrade" from the SLX reels and I don't even kinda consider that an upgrade. Compared to the Scorpion reels that the rest of the world, or at least Japan, gets for less money, the Curado series just comes up short. If I'm buying US market reels, which also means MSRP since both Shimano and Daiwa USA seem to be really adamant about MAP, in the $150-225 price point, the Daiwa Tatula series are better value than the Curado, especially when you factor the SV reels into the equation.
@helotaxi2 күн бұрын
The Miravel and the NASCI are two totally different animals built for totally different purposes. The NASCI is a "do everything" type reel, focusing largely on durability. The Miravel is a dedicated finesse reel that prioritized light weight to maximize sensitivity. If you wanted an "upgrade" from the NASCI, look at the Ultegra. Finding a metal frame spinning reel that isn't either a boat anchor or priced somewhere north of a car payment, is largely an exercise in futility, but for most bass anglers, you simply don't need a metal frame. You're throwing the lightest baits using the lightest lines. Why would you want the added weight of an aluminum frame or the added expense of a magnesium frame when the Ci4 or Zaion frames are rigid and strong enough for the actual application and either way lighter or way cheaper. Get into the 5000+ sized reels and that's a totally different discussion, but at that point you're not fishing light line on a light rod anymore.

Imo if I'm spending $200+ on a bait caster its Daiwa or Shimano. I know Kastking has been bringing some more quality in recent years but it's still not there for the price point as you noted in the value section. Owning both brands, I find myself fishing with the Daiwas more due to the consistency of the braking systems, I just backlash less for whatever reason. Great video!
@helotaxi2 күн бұрын
I have a lot of both Shimmano and Daiwa baitcasters and here's my take: Daiwa is controlled and measured. Shimano is at "11". The magnetic brakes on the Daiwa reels, expecially the SV models, are light years above what anyone else has to offer (the brakes on the KK MG12 are probably the closest contender and use a lot of the same ideas) and give a massive range of adjustment from "this probably isn't a good idea" to "utterly impossible to backlash". Finding a nice balance between the two where you don't really have to think about spool control and can focus on hitting your target is pretty easy to do. Shimano MGL reels, on the other hand, remind me more of a highly tuned racing engine. The all out performance is there for the using, but it's always just a momentary distraction away from getting away from you and blowing up in your face. My cranking reels and other specific setups where casting distance is the most important thing is need from the setup are all Shimano MGL reels. My setups that focus on precise cast placement where accuracy is way more important than distance are all Daiwa. I do have one of the KK MG12 reels. Funny thing about getting into the higher tiers of equipment is that rods and reels get more narrowly tailored to specific techniques rather than becoming the "one combo to do it all". The MG12 is a pretty specialized reel. There are only really two other reels in it's niche: the Steez SV CT and the Aldebaran. Let that sink in. It's half the price of an Aldebaran and a third the price of the Steez. I'm not saying it's as good as either, but I also won't say that they're 2x or 3x better either. Unless I found a screaming deal, I'd buy another MG12 before I'd buy another Steez CT (yes, I have one and no, I certainly didn't pay the current absurd US market price).
@kyleabel9877Күн бұрын

I guess it’s more accurately a rigid metal similar to magnesium from what I could find by googling it: www.bassmaster.com/gear/news/shimanos-hagane-concept/
@helotaxi2 күн бұрын
"Hagane" means "metal". In the case of the gears, it's their forged metal spinning reel gears. As to why they're "better"...because the Shimano marketing department says so? "Better" is relative and requires a comparison. Than cast or sintered gears? They're both stronger and smoother/more consistent. Than machined gears? Now you have to dig into more specifics? Who's machined gears are we talking about? What series Shimano vs what series "other"? When you get into those specifics it might be that they're more consistent/smoother/stronger and it might be that the machined gears are superior.
@helotaxi2 күн бұрын
@@ContractJack_NOLF they're cold forged, that's all that Shimano has said. I would very seriously doubt that any magnesium is involved with the Hagane gears or they would mention it. The whole "HAGANE Concept" is really interesting to me from a design, but even more a marketing, standpoint. It's not just one thing, but about a half dozen different "technologies" that get "added" to Shimano reels as you move up the price hierarchy. Shimano loves touting their "Micro Module gears" to the point that its the major "upgrade" between price points in the likes of the SLX to the Curado or the NASCI to the Ultegra. If you look at the other "technologies/design features" that always pop up at the same time as the MM gears, X-ship is always right there in both the spinning and casting reels and there are several others in the spinning reels as well. It makes it look like a huge improvement from a marketing perspective: "Look! You get all these 'improvements' over the older or lower priced model in addition to the MM gears!" If you read what those "extra" things actually entail, they're extra engineering required to keep the inherently weaker and more sensitive to precise gear lash MM gears from grenading themselves under load.

The innovation is only really going to be seen first in the flagship models. Only critique of the ratings is that it is going to be hard to really test the durability over the span of a year.

I think about it like this when it come to line and to link it to rods. Action in rods / Type of line. Braid, Fc, Mono XXXH - UL / class on the line, 5lb, 10lb, 50lb Braid is "fast action" little give you pull the line you pull the bait. FC is "moderate action" you have some stiffness when moving the bait but some stretch when you put pressure on it. Mono is "slow action" you have a nice stretch rigth from the start. You want braid to set the hook but as there is no give you have a higher risk of ripping that hook out or that the fish shakes it when it get close. You want mono when you got the fish hooked to have that give for the fish not to break off, you you might have to much give so you fail to set the hook. Hope it helped somewhat. :)

Bait wise, we’ve done a lot of cheap vs expensive to help showcase budget options. At the end of the day we’re not pros, hence aggressively average. Hope that helps a little

Times change, people change, and change is hard. That said, we fish more budget products now than we ever have. I guess it depends on what you define as average. We have and will continue to offer unbiased reviews on products from every brand and at many price ranges. We only make money on KZbin ads, not sales, affiliate links or sponsors. I don’t know what else you want from us.

Would take the 21 Zillion for $200 from Japan over everything shown here. Nothing can compete with this thing for such a low price.

I own 5 JDM Zillions. The Tatula SVTW100 has all the same guts (Hyperdrive/SV Boost) but it does have the brass gears like the USDM Zillion.

@@chootum8295 Just like the micro module from Shimano, it is not done the same way on a Conquest and a Curado MGL 150. Tech is the same, but the gear set is not. One of the reasons why you will always see people complain about the gears going buzzy on a Tat, but nobody complains about the Zillion. Well, actually, to be fair, the first gen of the Zillion G did have a gears issue, but only the USDM model with brass gears, not the JDM one with aluminum gears.

@@aaanglers Not seeing my last message, so i guess it was deleted or something. The $200 zillion is on the japanese a m a z o n. You can get the Zillion HD for $240 as well, which is even more insane of a deal.

Diawa tatula elite is better

I would imagine so, as it is the next model up 😂. However, we haven’t used it so, it’s not in this video. Maybe in the future

"Better" is subjective. It does better at casting distance. The SV does better at living up to "Stress-free. Versatile" that the SV moniker came from. Easy to set where it is very unlikely to backlash and usable with a wider range of lure weights especially on the lighter end.

@@aaanglers that's wild considering there is no other review in English. They missed a huge opportunity to get their name out.
