You can also get "remote" light switches for plug in lighting. You plug your lamp into the adapter in the outlet and then hang the switch on the wall. They look like normal light switches.

Ironically I just came into a 200 year old Victorian stone house on a hill in Scotland (please don‘t hate me), but I’m still 100% taking all of these great ideas! Mainly because we now have a giant beautiful house, but very little money😅. So, not just renter friendly.❤
@LaughCryDIY2 күн бұрын
Dude, this is incredible! I could not be happier for you. (P.S. Scotland is one of my favorite places!!!) I have heard tell of the heavy cost of owning these types of historic homes, so I am happy to share any and all ideas. I’m just happy it’s in the hands of someone who will appreciate it. 🙏

@ that‘s so lovely! It‘s not a castle or anything. It‘s a 6 bedroom house. And previous owners have done some „interesting“ things to it - in the 70s, I suspect. But it‘s mostly all there. Come visit! We have room 🤣

Excellent lighting line up Katy! One additional idea that has not only ambiance but practical applications, we plugged our LED strips into motion sensors underneath our bathroom vanities. Not only does it create an unexpected beautiful glow on the tile floor, but I will never again have to stumble in the dark or be jarred by bright light during those nocturnal trips to the toilet.😹 ( We hardwired ours into sensor switches but there are plug in motion sensors available for renter friendly applications) Total game changer that never ceases to make me smile with gratitude, as does seeing your lovely content pop up today. Happy New Year!😻

I really think, mood lighting is most important to make a room cozy. You can have a great room, but with just a harsh overhead light , it will never be cozy in the evening. On the other hand, you can have a thoughtless, cheap interior, but have warm cozy lighting - and the whole room is transformed. Personally, as a Renter, I love the plugin lamp sockets to bring light where ever I want. I also think that the lighting is, what makes every Ikea showroom on the planet (where they show their little pseudo apartments) look so comfy.
@LaughCryDIY2 күн бұрын
That is SO true (especially about IKEA). Lighting is absolutely everything. I want to do more light-related stuff on the channel this year because it’s such an overlooked thing.

You can make it happen. I’m telling you. Even a tiny corner end table with some candles on the lower portion can work!

I also like to take my taper candles, put them in a tub of warm water for a few minutes until they soften, and then reshape them. I have some cool squiggle tapers now!

Very good information, as usual. How many times have I stood in the aisle and Lowes and couldn't figure out which light bulbs to buy, I do appreciate your laying down the law on this one. I also like little accent lamps in various areas, they are so adorable and not expected.

Katy this video couldn't come at a more perfect time. Saving it as I'm looking to add lighting over my dining room table which has none at all and my space is open concept so I'm not sure on the size I should go with. Right now I have a cord from IKEA with a basket turned into the pendant but don't care for the look and need a change.

This isn't an atmospheric hack so much as a time blindness one, but I have my Wiz lightbulbs programmed to change to one of the dynamic modes or whatever at certain hour markers for a minute. So even if I'm ear numb to the alarms from my phone telling me an hour has passed, my lights will suddenly change to all blue from 8 to 8:01 pm, pink from 9 to 9:01pm, green at 10 etc (I work overnights). It's really really helpful for me!

I honestly would like to see an end to boob-light shaming. A lot of the ways people try to hide those lights look bad and reduce the efficiency of the light. Boob lights may not be fancy but they're less ugly than many of the alternatives, and it's sad that people are now so ashamed of them that they'll resort to trying to glue baskets over them or other ridiculous tactics.
