Destin was one of my favorite places. I could retire there.

My family vacationed at Destin, Florida. The o Ean water is very shallow and warm in the summer. We stayed at a RV park in Destin. It was a very nice one! Loved it!

Hi guys ! Your video brings back some great memories. I was stationed at Hurlburt Fl. from 1988-1992. I worked on H-53 Helicopters which have been replaced by the Osprey. I loved it down there. Well enjoy and thanks for the content.

I remember a lot of military would live in the campground cause it was so cheap and included all the utilities they needed. Everything was covered by the BAH and better than living in dorms
@MadamMayorsAdventures5 күн бұрын
Yes, I have done that as well at Fort Cambell, KY back in the day. You actually can make money. The BAH more than covers lot rent.

That is a nice area glad to know places like that exist . There is a camping area at Tinker Air Force Base . I haven't been there in years so I don't know what kind of stuff is back there now . When I was there there were 2 bath houses 1 for men and 1 for women at the time I was there it was tent camping only .I don't know if they have an area for trailers. I assume they probably do now . There was no where to swim . I need to check into that and let you know. Prayers 🙏 and Love 🤟 From Ginger

Hey, you are in my neck of the woods! I live in Navarre, the best kept secret of beaches! I worked in Destin until I retired. Born on Elgin AFB, raised in Niceville, worked in Destin and later retired in Navarre! This is a great area. I have lived in Tennessee. and Alabama but my toes had the sugary sands of Florida between them and couldn't be happier anywhere else! Hope you enjoyed yourself! Jeremy will be back in the city next to me,Pensacola, when he has to go to court I guess.

Is there a chance that maybe the camp site in Destin that has motel type rooms, cabins and so on was off base housing at one time that they have "remodeled" over the years.? Though I think you said this was a park on base? My dad was drafted in 1968 and this resembles a lot of the very few pics my mom has of where I was born/lived in El Paso Texas in off base housing. I was born in William Bealmont general hospital. The hospital doesn't even exist anymore. They built a new one and demolished the old. At about 3 months old we left and he was stationed in Germany for almost 2 years. Then back home to upstate NY and I have lived in Ohio now for 31 years. $50.00 a night for something like that ON the beach is amazing honestly! Good luck finding something like that anyplace ON any Florida beaches with those amenities'. Granted you have to bring your "home" and do all the works but wow! Can't even get an hotel room miles inland for under $150 a night and that is if you are real lucky. We vacation on the gulf coast of Florida and have for years so... Very nice!! Thanks for sharing!!

I don't know that the resort was ever on a base. It's possible, I suppose. But it's not a large place. You can see both ends if you stand in the middle.
@Donna6kunz5 күн бұрын
Oh my gosh! That’s where the trailer court where we lived that was that closed down! Every resident tried to fight the closure or have the AF buy our homes. We had to claim bankruptcy in order to retire!! We couldn’t sell out double wide cause it cost too much to move and we had to move it off base cause of the closure. Lawyer said our only choice was bankruptcy and let bank handle it. The Air Force times interviewed me. I was writing senators governors the president..everyone I could think of. They told us the reason they were closing was due to infrastructure but we paid every month to maintain the infrastructure and they wouldn’t show us where our money was spent
@MadamMayorsAdventures4 күн бұрын
Beaucracy at its finest. I'm not surprised. This resort is now operated and maintained by the Army and Fort Moore (formerly Fort Benning) in Columbus, Ga.
@Donna6kunz4 күн бұрын
@ that’s so strange that it’s owned by another base from another state. We found out that it was supposed to be officers housing. I was surprised to see a resort for military RV & campers A few of us writing government officials and having petitions signed, supposedly we made a difference that it couldn’t become officers quarters for minimum of 30 or 40 years in anyway especially without helping the enlisted residents with their trailers and a place to move them to. Maybe by giving the land to another base, Eglin avoids all problems & disciplining action. Civil engineering was supposedly investigating cause according to a report we found out infrastructure was fine and didn’t know where our money went. We claimed bankruptcy in July 2003 to retire since we didn’t have money to move a double wide that sat for over 20 years and land to put it on with new utility lines to it. We were home by August. I believe it was September or October 2003 that we made front page of the Air Force Times & the effect the trailer park closures on many bases were affecting military families

Do you have to be Military or a ex service member to be able to stay at one of these places? Can a normal Joe stay there? By the way thanks for including me on these adventures.
@MadamMayorsAdventures5 күн бұрын
There is a requirement to possess a DOD ID Card or be a previously injured service member in some cases.
