@@bkbutcher It's the only gun I have had break on me (the transfer bar sheered). Free four week repair job at Taurus and its been fine since. It was my first revolver, and usually the one I train people to use, as it's weight and ported 6" barrel makes 38sp a pussy cat and 357mag a thrill. "99 of people would be perfectly served with a 5-shot revolver." Yup. Unfortunately 67% of gun owning civilians fully buy in to tactical fantasies and misguided illusions of being a hero. And things like practicality having taken a back seat to an industry that is cranking in big bucks fueling "operator" envy. This crap has gotten ridiculous. And thank you for helping bust the myth that revolvers are really only appropriate as "beginner's guns." Whenever I hear some millennial gun culture 2.0 flat brim say this, all I think is - "keep talking and you'll tell me everything you don't know...." ;-)

@Rangerfan-gz1rx
@Rangerfan-gz1rx 5 жыл бұрын
Both work, it’s just a matter of personal preference. Everyone wants to be tactical, i tell people to be practical. The most important thing is having a gun that you can use effectively, and carry comfortably, those are more important than magazine capacity or caliber, some guys think they need to carry a Glock 17 with 3 extra mags on them, if you are comfortable doing that than great but I’m not, and I’m not that worried about how many rounds I have on me, I’m perfectly comfortable walking around with a revolver and 6 rounds of 357 mag or 38 special, if I ever get in a situation that requires me to shoot more than 6 rounds Statistically I’m dead anyway. I think a single action 45 colt is an excellent home defense or vehicle gun, again if you can effectively and comfortably use it.

+Raghnall Mac Aodh They have them. When they discontinued the SP101 briefly and brought it back they were only making the 4.2 inch guns, but they brought back the 3 1/6 inch barrel model. I've got an older SP101 in 3 1/6 inch configuration, which were just the old .32 H&R Magnum guns with the chambers reamed out for the longer .327 Federal Magnum. But they are out there, they are available, and it definitely is one of the sweetest carry revolvers I've come across. Little rough around the edges but it's an excellent caliber, very versatile, and easy to conceal.

Yo, little man. Listen-up. I'm a 'revolver guy'. I've owned S&W revolvers that were garbage and I've owned Rugers that were also garbage. I don't care which manufacturer you go with, you can get a 'lemon' from any gun company. I've seen brand new S&W revolvers that had canted barrels the same way I've seen some Taurus models having the same issue. I have a S&W 686 + with a 3" barrel and it's the most accurate revolver I've ever owned. I also own a Taurus Protector Poly in .357 mag and I've never had an issue with it after firing at least 5,000 rounds through it. I'd bet my life on it as I do every day using it as a CCW. Their Raging Bull line of revolvers are also great guns. Sure, the external finish isn't done as well as a S%W, but I've had a few Taurus revolvers where their triggers were just as good if not better than some S&W Performance Center models. Taurus has stepped-up their game over the last five years or so, and their revolvers are very well made. The metal Taurus uses is actually a bit stronger than S&W. So if you've had problems in the past with Taurus revolvers, just remember, many people out there have had the same problems with S&W and even Ruger as well. When you or anyone else buys a revolver, break it in, keep the parts that need oiling oiled and if it's possible, before buying the revolver, inspect the heck out of it first as far as the bore alignment with the chambers, the tightness of the cylinder when in full lock-up, and the few other things that need inspecting on a new revolver. If you ever get the chance, completely disassemble a brand new Taurus revolver and do the same with a brand new S&W revolver (not from the Performance Center). Check and see how many tiny metal spurs need a gentle filing or sanding. I've had Taurus revolvers that had needed it and I've had S&W revolvers that had also needed it. The bottom line is, go with what you like and trust, but don't say one company's revolvers are trash, and you can only depend on another company's revolvers for reliability. It's simply not true, When it comes to revolvers S&W, Taurus and Ruger are all good, reliable and accurate firearms, but there's always a chance of biting into rotten fruit, no matter which tree you pick it from. So before you pick it, take a good long look at it. The Ruger LCRX is a great revolver, but once again, you're wrong. Out of a 3" barrel, there is definitely a significant difference in power gain between a .38 and a .357. Also, it makes absolutely no sense at all to buy a .38 over a .357, and here's why. As anyone who knows anything about guns knows that owning a .357 gives you more options when it comes to different calibers. You stated that you like a .38 revolver because of all the differences in grains. Although that is true, when you have a .357, you have even more variety to choose from. Not just the different grains, but you get to choose between not only the .38 and the 38+P, but of course, the .357 itself. Also, because the .357 is a more powerful round than the .38, the gun is made even stronger, and in the LCR line, the .357 is right around the same weight as the .38. It's only about 5 ounces heavier. So extra weight isn't an issue. Firing .38+P out of a .357 that's built stronger than a 38 Special would give you even more confidence in the gun, knowing it can handle the mighty .357 when all you're firing out of it is .38+P. If you can afford the little extra it costs for the .357, go for it. Again, it really doesn't make any sense to buy a .38. You don't have to fire .357 rounds through it, but if you ever need the extra firepower, it's always there for you with the .357 magnum. NAILED IT!

I really don’t understand the whole concept of safely reholstering your gun. Why are you doing that in the first place? I check my gun to make sure it’s good to go, put it in my holster and then hook the holster to my belt. When I need to remove or adjust my holster or gun I simply remove it all at once. Continuing to draw a re-holster a weapon is just asking for a negligent discharge.

The pistol came with the smaller wooden grips and with the larger black grips which allow my paws to fit. I have found out that a speed loader is difficult to use with the larger grips so I use strip loaders. Not as fast but take up a lot less room in a pocket and doesn't rattle around while in the pocket.

I'm 5"10"" tall, a small to medium sized guy (175 lbs). I can easily carry my N-frame S&W 625 45 ACP 4" barrel revolver concealed, provided I use the right holster and dress around the gun. My favorite CCP guns are a 4" S&W 66 and Taurus 617 (7-shot 2" barrel), the S&W 66 on the left hip, and the Taurus 617 on the right hip as primary. I occasionally carry a Glock 19 (left hip) as back up to the Taurus 617(right hip), mainly to keep myself familiar with carrying autos. The reason the Taurus 617 is right hip primary is because the 2" revolver is very fast to draw from concealment and land a first round hit center mass. In my bi-monthly practice sessions I shoot 100 rounds. 80 rounds are fired, as single shot "draw and fire, hit center mass". 20 rounds are fired in 10 cycle rounds of double-tap. I practice this way because "1st hit center mass" is critical to survival IMO. The reason for the 4" revolver as left hip back up, is for a long range shot if needed, say a scenario of a mall mass shooter with AR15, across the plaza from me. The S&W 66 4" barrel is superbly accurate fired single action from prone position out to 100+ yards for me, (as also is a Taurus 66 7-shot 6" barrel I've been testing IF I can get a holster to effectively CCP it!!). I'm not fond of carrying the Glock 19 as backup due to its very poor long range accuracy compared to the S&W 66/ Taurus 66. I'm about to retire the autos for CCP carry in all honesty, as the autos cannot give me what I want in a back up gun, namely superb long handgun range accuracy.

I dont think .357 Magnum snubby revolvers are dumb, I think making revolvers in .38 is dumb, because you can fire .38s from a .357 Mag chambering, so why limit yourself to just .38s? What if another ammo crisis occurs and you find .357 Mag somewhere and you havent found any .38? Plus you can always pud load .357 brass and still have .357 brass after its fired incase you want it for another gun like a GP100. (I know thats unlikely because .357 will probly be harder to find, but it is a possibility.)

None of my other pistols have ever had an issue that couldn’t be resolved with a quick rack of the slide. That’s over the course of well over 5k rounds. That being said, I do occasionally throw my 642 in the loop as a pocket gun.

I use an LCR 327 federal. I wish they had the exposed hammer when I purchased it. I also wish it had the adjustable sights. Having said that, it hits close to point of aim with 32 H&R magnums and 327’s our to 15 yards. The recoil isn’t bad, even with moderate 327’s. I like the short barrel because it does fit in jeans pockets.

Why would anyone need adjustable rear sights on a small up close and personal revolver, such as a snub nose? I only need a revolver for up close and not for a shootout with someone across the street or down the road. A 5 or 6 shot snub nose revolver is perfect for concealment and self defense, which is almost always over in just a few seconds. Of course, there are the exceptions when you might get caught in a riot. But then eventually you will run out of ammo, even with multiple 15 rd mags, unless you are carrying like Rambo!

Dude seems kind of snooty. I have an LCR and an 856 and I alternative depending on where I'm going and what I'm doing. Yeah, the LCR is lighter and has a better trigger but I'm running shorter grips on the 856 (both aftermarket) and sometimes I appreciate the heavier more deliberate trigger pull and the extra bullet in the 6 shot cylinder. I've literally put thousands of rounds through both and haven't had a problem with either.

Caleb, Hello Sir...you mentioned want a revolver in .32 magnum that held 6 rounds. May a suggest to you Charter Arms Professional in .32 magnum, it holds 8 rounds. It has a 3" barrel. It is such a sweet gun. I'm 5'7 185 lbs and conceal it easily. I have speedloaders for it, but usually use stripper clips. It's a tough gun, and .32 magnum is almost right up there with .38 special per the USCAA testing of the rounds using FBI gel blocks & criteria. I am so happy with the gun. I'm a former LEO who carried S&W 357 #19 while on duty. I really missed a wheel gun so when I found this C.A. .32 magnum it really made me happy. I still love my Glocks 26, 19, & 10 mm's, & Kahr's, but this .32 H&R Magnum really brings back fond memories. Did I mention that the gun is beautiful & very manly. I subbed to your channel, may do the Patreon thing. Be careful out there....

Caleb, I really enjoyed your video on canceeled revolver carry. It are showed me some vary important points to cunsider. However I am on a vary limited buget and the one gun that I own and bought for persunal partection is a High Point .45 chambered in .45 automatic colt. Now I have shot this gun quite a bit and am able to, at this point, hit a five gallon bucket with multiple rounds filled with water at a distance of thirty feet or so consistantly. And, and what I like about the five gallon buckets I buy and use from Home Dapot is they are self sealing. Amazing !! When you hit them with bullets they do not leak.......not at all. Which makes them great for targets cuss you can keep on using them over and over and over again. The only thing I don't like is the hard recoil my gun is. So I am saving up my money and I am going to buy one of those three inch volvers that you said was good. Anyway, thanks Caleb. Signed, Doug.

Good info, thanks. More to the point, folks, even in the absence of live fire, the difference in the simple gun-handling skills we see here between most self-proclaimed internet revolver experts, and someone who actually knows how to run a wheelgun is striking. Caleb is an example of the latter. The difference at the range would be even more striking. This comes from many thousands of rounds downrange during focused practice sessions, and many hours of dry fire. The pressure of competition doesn't hurt either.

For 2" snubbies, the average velocity increase from .38spl to .357 mag is about 200 fps. For 3" barrels, the average increase in velocity is 300 fps. That's pretty significant. May not be worth the recoil and noise and flash, but it is significantly more powerful.
