That is why I am hoping AI takes massive leaps in the next upcoming years. Obviously it won't be the same as a human but having something that is actually self thinking and intelligent with a personality would be nice to have around the house when you can't see friends.

My wife keeps asking me to get her a dog... and I know who will be doing the walkies 3 times a day in all weathers(Yes I'm in the UK!!!) also picking up after it- so that Robot doggie seems perfect And at about 3000$ less than a live puppie it seems like a bargain- sign me up!!! Once we develop AI, it will have a snowball effect. AI will be able to program and develop much much more advanced and human like robots. Human engineering and programming only goes so far.

Robots can never replace pets. Period. However smart they get they cannot be real intuitive as real pets, most of the commands/tasks they will do is really repeating themselves that you'll know in a week and get bored off in a month or so. .
