I own various makes and types of scan tools and from my own experience there isnt one for all. You’ll find one does what other doesnt and other way round. Had situation where 2023 snap on wouldnt clear bmw brake replacement and 2020 snap on did without issues… Hope you ll have great time with this one and it turns out great! All the best from Poland!

No don’t throw your Launch, Autel or Snap-on away please. There is no question this particular scanner is a very good value however it does have limitations. The software, a an example, has only 40 of the 500 PIDs for just GM OBD2. I actually have this particular scanner, a Launch and a SnapOn. I always start a diagnostic job with the ThinkCar and usually work through routine issues but if I have to dive deeper into a modern vehicle electronics and live data and graphing I tend to switch to one of the others for oscilloscope snapshots to compare to known good graphics. Again Pete’s new scanner is very good for his needs and operates perfectly for that application.

I need a scan tool to activate/ run the abs pump to bleed the abs pump. Along with wanting to see graph charts on a obd 2 vehicle. Currently. I just picked up a pretty clean, garage kept 2000 Lesabre & the original owner ruptured a brake line & crimped the line. I want to cycle/ bleed the abs pump as I've seen Eric O from South Main Auto do. What scan tool do you recommend considering budget & features?

Looks like a great bidirectional scanner for the money. The 689BT is around $600.00 and the non-blue tooth version is even cheaper at $450.00. I think I paid around that for my non bidirectional Launch scanner several years ago.

I bought this scanner I think it is great what sold it to me is the Life Time Free Updates. The only thing I don't get is the coding one click and I don't see any other options to code/program modules indepth. So I guessing that update is to come.

You need live data for any sensor or functional electronics. Alive data graph like for the mass air flow sensor that throttle position sensor the O2 sensor the transition solenoids transmission the fuel pump pressure

Sorry Pete this does not have AutoAuth nor does it have Chrysler SGW security gateway. You need this as both of these on newer cars. 2017 up Chrysler and some other makes have gone to this. Should have bought the Harbor Fright model T8 or T10. Forgot which one has scanner topology but you need that today also. You can call tech on the T8 and T10 since they are for the USA and you can really talk to someone that knows something. The T10 will cost you about 2,000 dollars with tax and 50 dollars a year for AutoAuth. I think the T10 only has topology which makes it so much easier to use. Really you get what you pay for. And if you need to download files from the car manufacturers which even cost more in the J box plus pay for what car manufacturers model you need. A lot of modules need to be programed for a car or truck so that cost also. They making it harder for the DIY every day to fix newer vehicles. Today you have to take a new vehicle under warranty today several times to get it fixed right. These dealer don't have the techs to even fix your new car under warranty today. Sad you have to put up with crap like this when you pay 60,000 up on a new vehicle which the dealership can't even fix.

Got a creader elite Toyota only included but they said lifetime updates. Manual says 1 year updates so not sure what will happen in a year. Adding 40 for each brand. It's ok. It spotted purge valve problem on my Toyota. Break in wire actually.

So you tested it in your FCA/Stellantis Ram, if one of those modules had a problem and you had to replace it could you use this scanner? Probably not, you won’t be able to get past the secure gateway, but if you did get past that could you do a proxy gateway alignment on it? Most likely not, that said unless you have a more complex unit and even then a one that does it all you’ll find does not do it all.

Let me tell you about lifetime updates. I bought an autel with lifetime free updates and when they stop supporting the model the updates stop also. You can get a lawyer and sue a chinese company or just buy another chance with someone else.

Pete im sorry to disappoint you but you will only able to update that obd scanner about 4 or 5 times because there will be to much data for the cpu processing chip to handle and you can,t delete old up date,s so the cpu chip will be full paul from england 😊😊

My old ThinkCar Mini has an SD card slot for the space. I'll see if this one has. I ordered 689BT a month ago, still waiting. All other brands also have lifetime updates only difference is the fee, somehow they manage the updates

@Manowar68 sd is only for recording live data so you can watch it back after a drive test or you would have to watch the screen while driving and that would be dangerous the manufacture,s only allow so many update,s and the scantool software can,t take any more up date,s hope this was helpful

Hey Pete my hood keeps getting. Lift bubbles. Have striped to bare metal 5 times. Wax oil Remover. Epoxy it. Orimer3d. Wet sanded. Sealed it. Base coated. What 3 0 to 45 minutes between coats. Then clear coated same waited took time to clear. Looks great. Then it get bubble. What the fuck. Why keep doing this

It does program fobs. You need to verify if it's compatible with your model make. All the diagnostic tools from different companies (Autel, Fox, ThinkTool etc.) can program keys but might not the same model year of the car manufacture

Snap-On has become junk. Harbor Freight tools are much better now. I always preferred Craftsman over Snap-On to begin with.

Used craftsman exclusively for 20 years and started replacing them slowly with Matco and Snap-on, and I notice the difference. There's a lot of things I won't buy frome either of them, and a scan tool is one of them.
