I'm a rhodie. His Rhodesian accent is actually pretty good. Even has some of the old phrases we were used to Ja, howzit brew. Score us a loose ! I believe he was taught by ex Rhodesian and South African military

It's not even a real word, just a slang term for how goes it. Archer is an ex Rhodesian mercenary. He mentions it a number of times in the movie. Perhaps watch the movie a few more times. .....lol

Asked my friends family, who came to uk from south africa 2 years ago about his accent in this an they said it slipped a few times but overall were bloody impressed with how convincing it was. can't have been easy.

I hadn't been too impresses with DiCaprio when he was just a pretty-boy movie star. But he has matured into a superb actor. The Gangs of New York, The Departed, Blood Diamond, Body of Lies, and The Aviator are good examples. (I doubt I will suffer through Django Unchained)

So in response to all below comments (and I am no authority on this but...): - Leo's accent throughout Blood Diamond is meant to be Southern Rhodesian (country now Zimbabwe) - The language in this scene is meant to be Krio BUT spoken by a non-native speaker so there are mistakes (as there would be by anyone who is an outsider in the country). Krio is a language spoken in Sierra Leone. - English is also spoken in S. Leone so that is why the other character flits between the two.

He's great at playing characters as Leonardo DiCaprio, if that makes any sense. Every line of dialogue he delivers is the same across the board. He's always angry the same way; always happy the same way. He has acting down to this exact science that works for him, but it's kind of made him stale. Watched Shutter Island not too long ago, and Inception tonight, and felt like I was just watching an extension of that crazy inmate's imagination.

This was a good movie. The only complaint is how he said eh after every other sentence. But his accent was well done, South African accents are hard because (to me) they sound like Australian mixed with something else. Great movie and Leonardo Dicaprio is absolutely amazing. This was the funniest thing ever though.

- And to those people saying the accent sounds Jamaican - well Krio has a lot of similarities with patois because of the history of slavery that unites Sierra Leone and Jamaica. It is not a 'fake Jamaican accent' but much of the language construct is similar. And as many others have said, it is a movie so lighten up! That is my piece said :-)

Basically, it is Krio he is speaking. A creole language spoken in Sierra Leone and other West African countries. Similar to Nigerian Pidgin and Jamaican Patois.

You can tell the subtext of the scene just from their acting. That leader was probably told by his commander to be tough on archie and he somewhat reluctantly agreed, then archie acts up a little and the "hardass" facade falls away.

It's called Krios, it's a creole of English, patois and other African languages that's more or less the unofficial language of Sierra Leone. (Official language is still English for some reason). Wikipedia says that they're doing it wrong in this scene, though.
