The Best Sci-fi and Fantasy Books of 2024 | Polygon Article Review |

I took a look at Polygon's top-rated sci-fi and fantasy books of 2024 so far. Not many traditional hard sci-fi or high fantasy, but certainly a number of books I hadn't heard of! What do you think of this list? Anything that should be added to a TBR?

Norse inspired? Have you read the Bloodsworn yet by John Gywnne ?Shadow of the Gods is book one. I found these lists on the internet never have any books I heard of. That is why booktube has been a blessing, it is very rare to get a bad recommend from my favorite tubers.

Yeah this was really just me curious about this publications take... I wasn't overly impressed tbh. None of these really screamed sci-fi or fantasy to me. Gwynne is absolutely on my list. I'm doing a "catch-up" year in 2024 going through all the big fantasy and sci-fi series I missed over the last few years.

I suspect anything involving that site. Quality is not what dictates their choices.

They have absolutely done some uhh.. questionable reporting over the years. No arguments there. Didn't realize they were doing anything in the bookish space so that's why it jumped out at me. Would I give this top books of the year so far... Ehhhhhh lol. There were a few that look interesting.

There is nothing further from queer romance than Blue-Eye Samurai 😂 It's a really violent revenge story across Edo-era Japan centered on the insidious colonization of the British and the Japanese reaction to it. Really eclectic list, am a bit surprised by the books on it! (even outside of the SFF male titans)

Interesting, I haven't seen it (can't stand that animation style) but my impression was it was very much claimed by the lbgtq+ community. It's raved about at length in my writing group lol.
