I started my sewing journey with you about 12 years ago; I think. I am glad that you are posting some new videos. I know this is a lot of work but I wanted to THANK YOU for ALL YOUR videos and Happy New Year 2024 will Rock; I feel it in my gut.

I love to make string quilts, but I sew mine directly onto squares of batting ( instead of paper ) then I sew the squares together and tie them onto a backing. It’s a Great way to use up scraps. The quilts are what I call “utility” quilts. Sometimes I use half square triangles to create patterns. No paper piecing.

Ilike the idea of it but my machine getting bogged down with batting lint is not my jam

@@UsernameUnkwn21 I only use Warm company natural cotton batting ( or a comparable cotton batting )when I make these. The other type of batting did bog down my machine.

You are here! You are back! I just found you with your T-shirt reconstruction video from when you were in school---and I thought what a talented young lady--then I saw posted 15 years ago! Then --You're darling video with the circle skirt and your little girl...and I just kept think wow this child is 8 now! Then your good bye video and I thought you didn't ever come back. I'm a bit social media challenged. Then this popped up and said "2024". Whitney! I'm so happy you chose to make YOU and your family happy! But I'm so glad for a new glimpse of you. I hope you are well. And I will follow to see what comes next --no rush and no pressure. :) Wishing you all the best.

Whitney. Thank you for all you do. You have taught me so much. I have a scrap piece quilt started using 8x111/2 newsprint paper. It’s so much fun. I have 10 panels done, not sure on how to put them together or what kind of batting to use. I’m sure I will figure it out when I’m ready. Like you said you learn by doing, everyone has to start somewhere. Also I want to thank you for not charging for your patterns. I still use your pattern for my tote bags. Your the best

Hi! I just met you today, and just have to sayyyy.......I love the way that you talk about projects and suggestions for offshoots from them! I got to the section in this video where you are talking about Memory Bears, and (I don't have the words for it) I was caught.....'was "all in"! I just love the level that you are talking from (familiarity), and -- while this is a 'sharing skills and ideas' -- I think it's important that (the presenter) be LIKEABLE!☺ [...and again, "the way you talked about the (forgiveness in making & giving) BEAR/s"? Whitney do you have a video already, or can you make a video discussing sewing machine choices? What machines are good for certain projects, which can sew leather or tougher materials, a best choice? Curious on how to pick, hoping for direction! :)

I have never purchased a new sewing machine, so no real recommendations here. I used a vintage machine for about 10 years and loved it because it could sew through anything and was sold metal. But I eventually burned the motor out and have been using other various second hand machines the past 2 years and not loving them. My current machine is one I was gifted a few years back. It's computerized and I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

Rather than using telephone book paper or other to foundation piece....use SF 101, one sided, flexible, iron-on adhesive light wt foundation. ( It's time consuming and a mess tearing off paper from the back of pieced blocks, etc.) Quilt batting can still be used OR without batting, SF 101 alone is great foundation for blocks in "summer" wt batt-less quilts.
@Whitney_Sews
@Whitney_Sews 6 ай бұрын
I have used interfacing for foundation piecing before, and I do not like it. It often results in accidently getting glue on my iron and it's an additional supply I have to pay for. My go to now is grocery store flyers. They come in the mail for free each week and my kids love helping me tear the paper off. I will use fusible fleece for piecing a tote bag on occasion because the fleece will be used as an inner layer anyway, so no extra supplies needed.

These are great projects. I've added several to my must-sew list. I love the scrappy quilt block you showed (that you're now making into a coat). I've been looking for that exact pattern, but I don't know what it's called so I haven't been able to find anything. Is it a spiderweb block? Do you have a pattern (or a link/source)? Thanks!

Here's a video where I talked about the project. I have an accuquilt and cutting templates that work perfectly for this block so I use that. But for the first one I made, I made up my own patterns by looking at photos of other quilts and it worked out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqvVnYiXhc-Ng5I

My hat pattern is linked in the video description box. I don't have a bear pattern to share because I use a commercial pattern. But I do recommend a specific pattern which is the Simplicity Rare Bear. It's the reprint of the one I use. You can search that phrase online and find it on Simplicity's website then follow along with my bear tutorial. Can't wait to hear what all you sew from your scraps!

...and why am I looking at this video? We have decided to fill the 2024 stockings with some low(er) cost, hand crafted items . For us, low and lower cost actively involves "stuff" we already own and while I have to clear and dust the sewing machine off I do have a container of assorted fabric scraps (imagine that).

I was very excited to get this pattern because you said it was free. I went to your website and followed along as you said, but it required a credit card to continue. Unfortunately, it’s not free if you require a credit card to continue, I tried to bypass by going to my car logging in again, but really sad how you say it’s free but you require a credit card, 🙁

It does not require a credit card. I showed in this video exactly what to click and look for to download the patterns for free. Only click the purple buttons after it is added to your cart and it does not ask for any credit card info. Anything else could be a Google ad that takes you offsite.
