What about untying that knot? I find that many of my students get their shoes knotted and then can't get the knots out. Plus, out kids change shoes regularly throughout the day and have to tie and re-tie shoes all day. Lots of practice, but we cannot always be there to assist with the tying.

I equip my son with a few double pointed toothpicks in his backpack, there’s not a knot he can’t get undone 😂. Slow and steady working it up down to loosen the knot. I got him to practice using them during the summer. He’s a pro now.
