He did a nice recording of Balakirev’s First Symphony.

Good choices. Thanks, Gil. Incidentally, that great live Sibelius 2 has benefitted from careful remastering in recent years.

I didn't know there was a remaster. I thought that recording was beyond repair, even as exciting as the actual performance is.

@OuterGalaxyLounge The 2004 BBC Legends (coupled with his Royal Philharmonic 1959 Dvořák 8) is cleaned up noticeably compared to the old 60's release.

I have every single one of these. Beecham had an impeccable track record. Out of all the Beechams I have, and it's a lot, I can't think of any wayward performances.

One of the top conductors from XXth Century 👏

Great choices - although obviously not 'major' repertoire I would add his recording of Gounod's Faust Ballet Music, wonderful performances of music that nobody has ever played with as much elegance than Beecham...

He recorded a great Scheherazade with the Royal Philharmonic (on EMI)

Sir Tommy certainly was a character. My favorite recording of his is the LALO: Symphony In G Minor with the O.R.T.F. orchestra I believe. He recorded it when Lalo wasn't as popular as he is today. Only thing you always heard was The Symphonie Espagnol, Opus 21. Another nice video. P.S. You carry a tune much better than Dave Hurwitz does. Ooops, sorry Dave...

Hay que mencionar también su ópera Carmen de Bizet, con la soprano Victoria de los Ángeles. Durante las sesiones de grabación hubo desavenencias entre Beecham y de los Ángeles y finalmente se logró completar satisfactoriamente la ópera completa.
