I don't know how far you are from Oxford but you we're clearly here for Pride Month. By chance I found your review & living in Headington it is exactly what I was looking for. Given its being bought for dual use as a main phone/content creation. I am very interested in your opinion. I currently have a couple of damaged Xperia 1ii performing that role as dedicated camcorders I was actually looking for review of the 5 V but judging by the pricing of 5 iv it looks like the 5 V will be £200 less than the 1 V? And I don't know yet how much less one will get with it. It seems substantialy less meanwhile the 10 V is OK but it's a 1080p screen & a poorer camera & no Sony pro apps. All this is because I am being forced to buy a replacement phone and I have a choice finance a Sony 1 V over 2 years at £50 a month or buy a Sony 10 V outright. Personally I was aiming to buy an Insta360 X4 1" as my next purchase assuming it happens by black Friday. I would be very interested in your opinions given that I assume your a local? That's been one of the biggest questions for me: can Sony pics be easily adjusted via Lightroom (or existing onboard Sony software - like other phone-cameras have) to improve clarity, highlights, and dynamic range? I tend to do that on photos I take with my current Huawei Mate 20 Pro anyway (using the existing inbuilt camera software) so don't mind doing it with the Sony - as long as it's an easy workflow and I don't have to transfer to pc first. And then again ... apparently there's a ported version of GCAM for Xperia 1 V so it will be interesting to see if that changes the quality / processing of the pics.

When examined as a competitor to Apple or Samsung, the results are “marginally better.” But when evaluated and assessed as a component in the Sony photo ecosystem, the xPeria is peerless, and I can’t wait to get my hands on one. The mere fact of this phone allowing the photographer to use it as a field monitor for the Alpha series of cameras alone makes the xPeria worth the price of admission. I’m “sold.”

The Experia 1 V is for people who like to make adjustments manually with their smartphones or edit RAW shots because that's where the camera shines. It's impressive in Auto mode in bright light due to its sharpness (without over-sharpening) and realistic colors. Downsides: 1) Can't make calls on WIFI. 2) Can't shoot macro (up close shots). I'm still tempted to get one:-)

I am with EE and have no problem with Wi-Fi on my Xperia V. This phone is in a world of it's own. I am sure Sony predicted lower sales of this phone due to its somewhat specialist appeal, therefore the high price. My HTC U11 had good manual control but this is fantastic.

Well i took a chance with this phone today, hopefully when it arrives on Friday or Monday, that the HUGE issues that forced me to abandon my Xperia 5 iv have been resolved. On that note how has the 12gb ram been holding up when you switch between two or three apps, and if you use them how well have WearOS watches been working on it. On my Xperia 5 iv phone after 6 hours of continuous light use like occasionally looking at notifications or 20 minutes of KZbin. Then you literally can't even go from browser to Google messages and back without the browser restarting on you. Needless to say that anything harder like Pokémon go will put the phone in that state under a hour. Best part of all this has to be how in that low ram (or whatever else is going on) state, the phone starts to fight against itself. I mean whatever Sony did to it, causes the WearOS background service to be killed off. This then results my WearOS watch to drop Bluetooth connection. Then phone restarts that WearOS service and my watch reconnects automatically. Though this 5-10 seconds of no Bluetooth and then 15-20 seconds of connection, results to the watch receiving 10 latest notifications (no matter if already read and cleared or new) with vibrations on each notification. This then results me getting constant vibrations from my watch unless I restarted my phone. I sure hope that this Xperia 1 v phone doesn't have anything remotely like this level of issues. As the Xperia 5 iv currently is, it easily gets wrecked in usability when put against the likes of my old 50€ (when new) Huawei Y5 2017 phone. And that's saying something.

I found there is some variability in the quality of the periscope camera, going from the Xperia 1 IV to V, the results from the zoom camera are much better, even though it's the same camera. Getting the phone on a tripod and setting the ISO at 32, I was able to pull some fairly decent results out of it. Seems that the tiny sensor with a long focal length needs some seriously slow shutter speeds to get decent results, it's REALLY sensitive to camera shake.

I'm trying to get back to stock 44 rom (from Xperifirm), but when I flash it I get the message: "Your device is corrupted and can't be trusted." So I have to flash back to the 62 to turn the device back on. Is there a fix to get back to stock rom? What can I do? *I did find a workaround to get VoLTE to work, but I need to get back to native stock rom. PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks...

Most video telling in the beginning the Sony is expensive, but later on - they compare it to the Iphone 14 pro. I have both of this smartphones at home (sure the Iphone have my partner). So the specs nearby the same, only small subjective differences, but the price of the Iphone 14 pro here is 450 Euro more than the Sony Xperia 1V, and if you count the bundle at the moment is the Iphone 850 Euro more than the Sony. Should all the video not say than in the beginning "a very good price" Smartphone ;-)

Thing about the Sony cameras they look more natural to the eyes and so it looks like you're looking at it in real life that's the one thing I like about their cameras it's not overly saturated to the point it looks artificial like some smartphones and also Sony still has the headphone jack micro SD card and a bunch of other features including my favorite feature the full stereo speakers are freaking phenomenal especially since they point to your face and the sound hits your face perfect instead of an awkward sound unbalanced sound that the iPhones give with the bottom firing speaker and then the earpiece I do own the Sony Mark 5 and I just got it a couple days ago running it through its paces and it's well worth the money I got it on sale off Amazon for a $1298.00 ! 11:23 that is NOT 4k120fps video from the video pro app is it ? My Xperia 1 III does 4k120fps video USING the Video pro APK, and looks FAR better than what you have depicted here, my videos more like the iphone footage with great HDR.

Probably because it isn't.

Everything was shot in 23.98fps.

@@MarkEllisReviewsif that was recorded from the default camera app which produces understanding video, you need to disclose that it was not shot on the video pro app or cinema pro app which records at extremely high bit-rates (even for 23.98 fps)

@@Vamanos46 I made it very clear which apps I used to shoot photos and videos. Please watch and listen more carefully.

@@MarkEllisReviewsI have listened and searched through the transcript. You of course mention that you were testing with all of the apps. I knew that already. But specifically for the clip showing 11:23 which I already previously referenced, you do NOT, sir disclose what app you are using. It's YOUR video production, why don't you clarify in writing /text overlay in video or throw me a timestamp as reference like I did, rather than brush me off saying watch the video again ?

The Xperia isn't meant to be used in auto mode. The iPhone will always beat it cause of the processing, the Xperia keeps things more natural. Pro mode is where it stands out

It’s an option, mate, which means it has every right to be used and, as noted in the video, the 1 V does a stellar job.

What matter most to me is the prolonged OS support updates. 2 years sony vs 5 years apple iphone is clearly a dealbreaker for me. Unless of course, if you buy xperia 1 V mainly for camera, you’re better off buying a compact camera RX 100 VII if you looking for portability much.

The iPhone 14 pro photos looks like they have the clarity slider in Lightroom turned all the way upp and a bit oversaturated. Sony is much more natural and camera like

Sad to see that after all the hype, all the amount of time (6 months) to hype the phone and make computational photography better Sony still can't hang with Apple or Samsung flagships. Sony keeps blowing the highlights in Auto mode for pics and videos unless you're in manual modes. Ain't nobody got time for that to get a good picture, yes you can set up a nice RAW pic to get the most of IQ just to come close to resembling what other brands do for Jpegs. Let's see if Mark VI figures it out. Oh yeah, also the timing of updates especially after a year of owning an Xperia phone are also pathetic. It's sad cause I'm a fan of Sony products, especially their high end audio products as well as other stuff. But the way their mobile division operates has all the competency of their marketing department which names the products. Can't wait for my next pair of Sony's IER-7z5000xi Mark VIII. 🙄

Really expensive indeed. Iphone 14 pro max, with inferior specs, cost around the same when it was introduced. But of course, it's an apple product, and their products are never expensive, overhyped or overrated ;-)
