Hey Rodger, I love this video. From the wobbly table to your hat, I get the feeling of honesty and quality. Your enthusiasm tells the story. I wish you the best. I was thinking about getting a Generac for a stand by backup. But I saw a video that said his unit kept breaking. The warranty covered the motor only. Without dragging this out, one of the advantages of your unit is it can be inside, no carbon dioxide emissions. So I'm going to the website and look around.

WE NOW HAVE 4 SIZES OF PORTABLE SYSTEMS, (SOON TO BE 5 SIZES) TO MEET THE NEEDS/REQUESTS OF OUR CUSTOMERS. We just added the 12 panel 6000watt 110v/220v Mini House, 2800 watts of solar power. A separate Quick Connect battery bank of another 6 AGM batteries (on wheels) can be added for $2800. The 5300 above (see the upgrade video) is designed to run CONTINUOUSLY (during sunny days) a Refrigerator + a Freezer + a few lights + a fan/blower on a furnace + a computer...for weeks-months-years. It is designed to recharge the batteries fully while still using the system in a single sunny day.

I love the idea of the component system over the "all in one" units, that have short lifespans and even shorter warranties. I'm just a 60 year old lady who likes the idea of being able to be off grid. They have smaller units for recreational use and power outages and even an RV package that can power a small cabin!! I'm wishing for a small piece of land in the woods and a yurt!! With their solar power solutions perhaps someday I'll be able to make it a reality.

@totalsolartechnologies91377 жыл бұрын
Solar panels are not solid state. There are no computer micro chips in them... and that is what an EMP event will damage. Most panels do have a diode (or several diodes) that at night prevent back feed electrical loss from batteries. HOWEVER, they are not susceptible to emp. And even if they were, solar panels would still work...(you would just have to turn the breakers off at night to prevent the back feed...like we used to do in the old days.)

The ACTUAL nuclear engineer that I talked to (one that had actually built nuclear bombs that have been exploded) said that the only sure way to prevent EMP effect is a good Faraday cage. If all it took was an upgraded lightning arrestor...as some companies suggest their equipment has... then the US military would have all of its equipment protected, the telephone company would be protected, computers would be protected, etc. . Claims that you can have active, open circuitry, protected from EMP by various devices, arrestors, etc.... are sales gimmicks.

How do you test it for EMP protection let alone something as large as a nuke or even a direct solar flare?
@totalsolartechnologies91377 жыл бұрын
The only way to "tentatively" test for EMP is to use a RF power amplifier that sends out an RF signal. Then you have a device on the inside of your "box" that receives and records the amount of RF energy. This is the most common way of testing. HOWEVER, that is not a true EMP test. A better EMP test is very expensive...you must have an effective focused EMP weapon device that generates a very strong EMP focused beam on your target. Of course the only sure way to test for a real ultra strong "nuclear" blast EMP.... is to actually do a nuclear blast. Currently only North Korea is doing such testing... interestingly, with specific nuclear bombs designed as EMP weapons.
@kakurerud75167 жыл бұрын

Roger, I agree with Jeff T. You seriously need to go back to the drawing board to redesign your product offering. You will end up with a lot of upset customers with what you're selling. Also why do you have two inverters?
@GRINEWS9 жыл бұрын
Lynn Grantham ... sold hundreds of units from Hawaii to New York, Texas to Canada. ... nothing but happy customers. We pay for no advertising...word of mouth is doing it all because of our happy customers. Hard to keep unit in stock...current backlog of 6 weeks even after hiring more staff. hmmm So you ask why we include 2 inverters... it appears you haven't done your homework..
@GRINEWS9 жыл бұрын
GRINEWS also, this is our 4th year. Systems are the most powerful units available, and the most reliable. We have people using them for CPAP machines, barn milking machines, kidney dialysis, house backup systems, cabins, greenhouses, RV & trailer. People who do their homework come to realize that we have the very best for the least amount. Currently, we are dominating the large portable solar generator market because we have a superior design, superior equipment, and features no one else has.
@mktwatcher9 жыл бұрын
GRINEWS Ignorance is bliss. You are working off the Barnum and Bailey Principle. I commend you on your selling success. But, you're missing a boat load of more educated buyers.
@mktwatcher9 жыл бұрын
Lynn Grantham Roger, I owe you an apology. When I first watched your video I stopped watching after set one battery on the table and showed the competitor's solar panels which I thought you were selling with you system. I have watched your video again in its entirety and see what you were doing now to build the case for what your systems are made of. However, I don't know why you don't just ship with on pure sine wave inverter instead of the 5000 watt inverter and the 300 watt pure sine wave inveter. Many appliances might not perform well on the modified sine wave or at worst will not be as efficient on a modified sine wave inverter. So you could make your product less complicated and save time building your units if you would go with save a 3000 Watt Sinewave which would provide 30 amps of service on a basic system. Other than that your choice of panels and batteries seems smart because the panels are long lived and the AGM batteries are maintenance free. Thank you
@totalsolarsupergreen46469 жыл бұрын
Lynn Grantham THANK YOU. APOLOGY ACCEPTED You did your homework. In actual use, (in a totally off grid house using only a modified inverter for 6 years) ...we found the modified runs everything pretty well except... lithium ion battery chargers (like laptop computers and cell phones.) Therefore, the modified runs most everything and we include the pure sine wave on the unit for electronics. the reason we don't use a pure sinewave is because it keeps the cost down on the unit. However, in our 6000 series ... we use a 6000 watt pure sinewave... split phase (110/220v), marine inverter that has a 18,000 watt 20 sec surge capacity, especially for well pumps, etc. I need to make some new videos... as we have added some new improvements. what system would i need just to run a 5000-6000 btu ac window unit, just during the day? (off at night)
@totalsolartechnologies91377 жыл бұрын
It is simply a matter of math. These kind of AC window units take about 2000 watts -3500 watts per hour. A) So you need a large enough inverter to run the AC unit... 4000--6000 watts, and B) you need enough solar panels to produce around 3000-4000 watts per hour, (more to charge up a battery bank if you want to be able to run it at night.) For Example...(15) 235 watt solar panels would produce 3500 watts of power when exposed to direct sun. With our exclusive solar panel coating... they would produce a little more... closer to 4000 watts of power per hour of direct sun.

@billnott58119 жыл бұрын
Hey from Alaska everyone.. :). I'm brand spanking new to solar , and I'd like to ask a question to anyone more knowledgeable about it than myself. I just bought a Goal Zero yeti 150 and after one day I was so excited about it I bought a Goal Zero Yeti 400 and running them off a couple 30 watt panels. They seem like they will be fine for keeping my iPad and laptop running in a long term power out situation.. What I'm looking at now is the Yeti 1250.. But than I found and watched the video on the solarmax 3300 and and 5500. For the price of the yeti 1250 and three Boulder 90 watt panels , I could get the SolarMax 3300. ( around $400 shipping for the solarmax to my location , ugh ) Is there anyone out there with knowledge about both of these systems ( the goalzero and the solarmax ) to advise me which one would be best long-term ? I'm basically wanting a system that can reliably run a 35 inch flatscreen TV, a desktop computer, a couple iPads and various rechargeable battery chargers and small electronics , and that will run all of these things on a continual nightly basis.. I'm disabled and spend a lot of time in bed. One of my biggest concerns in a long term power out situation is being able to watch shows and movies from my desktop and laptop to my tv even when there's days and days with cloud cover and no sun... At my location here in Alaska I get about 20 hours of daylight in the summertime but only about six hours of daylight in the winters.. Thanks so much if anyone has good advice ! ....Have a great day everyone :)

For houses, cabins etc. that rely on natural gas/propane for cooking, heating, water heating, etc. if would work. (My family lived that way for 6 years in Montana with a system about the same size as the Solar Max 6000. HOWEVER, For a full regular house... you need a full house system. Dawn in customer service was not helpful at all and I would not recommend buying from this company. They seem to be charlatans and build cheap a crappy stuff (at least their generators are) I had a very bad experience. Very upset I spent about $2,000 for something I have to now throw away.

Right now we have two North Korean satellites coming over the US. If these have nukes on them that could wipe out our grid with an EMP. Why not line the box you have with copper mesh wire so you can ground it, making a Faraday shield. Also can you daisy chain the solar panels together. Do the solar panels have legs to tilt them to the sun? Do the solar panels have "Jacobson" connectors on them so you can't plug them in the wrong way (Polarized) connectors?
@totalsolartechnologies91378 жыл бұрын
With the steel casing, it already is superior to a copper mesh wire faraday cage. As it is shipped, the box is rated at a reduction of 38 decibles. If you seal the edge with aluminum tape.. it jumps to 42-44 decibles. The only way to improve on it... is to put the box in another box. (By the way... Faraday cages do not need to be grounded... since they are protecting against a radio wave. All they have to do is keep the radio wave from reaching the electronic components.)
@d.hansel8548 жыл бұрын
OK.... good thoughts.... I believe your batteries are Lithium Ion. they have many cycle charge and discharge rate. Lead acid batteries are not rated for that. There are deep cycle batteries that are used in things such as golf carts. Thanks for the feedback..

Bruce Forster Prices change by months... Videos are forever. xD Seriously though, this system 12 months ago would be well over $10,000-$20,000... It's about $5,000 now, $6,000 if you get the "pure sine inverter"... You want that... any less can't run actual motors without damaging them. (Well, they have capacitors, so that may stop immediate damage.) Still, DIY, you can reduce it to around $2,500 for the same stuff. (Labor/warranty not accounted-for.) For the reduced head-ache and labor, it is a great price. However, it is not a "complete system", as the panels have to be mounted and the system is uncovered and dangerous. Eg, you need to build or own a shed or other storage location for it. You can't just drop it safely in your garage and hope no rodents or children go poking around in the outlets or exposed wires and terminals. Nice components though, if weight isn't an issue, or area/size. It freaking rocks for power delivery.

@jefft3619 жыл бұрын
Bruce Forster Seems to be a bit out of balance. Is this intended for just a short period of usable time? Group 31 battery - 95 to 125 aH | 100 Watt panel kicks out 5.6 A in full direct sun @ 5 hours of good sun a day that's 28 aH | A 2000 Watt inverter just turned on for 12 hours a day (no load) likely uses close to 22 aH in that 12 hour period. Seems that you would run out of energy pretty fast.

I know stereo, tv and computer equipment go pure. But, lights? Fridge/freezers? water pumps? locating devices from my alien overlords? what's a little green guy with antennas to do???
@totalsolartechnologies91378 жыл бұрын
What Daniel Richards44 said.... From personal experience...the newer modified sine wave inverters run pretty much everything. Even most electronics. However, some computer chips in clocks seem to lose a few minutes in a week.

Why do none of the Solar Power companies give prices for the portable units [5KW] right on the website instead of forcing us to listen to a damn sales pitch???
@just-dl8 жыл бұрын
Re-check their website. You can click on the "buy now" button on the unit you want...but, to end the suspense...it's $4985 - listening to the sales pitch is optional, but informative. Personally, I'm drooling over the 3kw system...and the price appears to scale; it's $3k. My only beef is the big inverter isn't pure sine wave. Probably not a big deal, but, it's causing me to step back.

how is this emp protected?
@totalsolartechnologies91378 жыл бұрын
+Sal Merin The system is encased in a 20 gauge steel box which essentially is a Faraday Cage. 38 DB reduction in the box...and if you seal it with aluminum tape, it increases to 43-44 DB reduction. However, if the system is in use or out of the box... there is no EMP protection.

well so far so good. I would be very skeptical about using your inverter for medical stuff. Very very very sceprical. I don't think you got UL approval to use it in medical equipment. I have nothing against semi sinus inverter but i don't use them at all. They are not good and equipment usually has problem with it. As back up it is ok even i would like to see full sinus inverter there not just small 300W inverter.

How much to send unit to France ??????
@totalsolartechnologies91379 жыл бұрын
+Terry O'Rourke ...don't know. Depends on 1- the type of unit (3300/5300/6000) 2-where in France , 3-how it is being sent... via ship or air and 4- how many units. answer those questions and we can start looking into it. We are now getting many requests for shipping to international locations and have already worked out modifying our systems for international use. (i.e. 220v 50hz with the necessary plugs for the various country. We are currently working on shipping multiple units to different parts of Africa because they claim they are the best in the world. Two groups want them. One group will have us ship them to a port in the US and they will then put them in a cargo container and ship them. Another group is looking at shipping them freight air. We expect to start shipping them in January. Requests have also come in from South America, Haiti, Bahamas.

As soon as he said modified sine wave, I had to go elsewhere.the year is 2021, there is no excuse for having a modified sine wave inverter. Your inverter should be pure sine wave sir.

What about EMP's ?
@totalsolartechnologies91377 жыл бұрын
The only way to suppress EMP is to put components that have a micro chip in them... in a Faraday cage. People who say they can just add some extra transistors and other electrical components to an inverter/solar charge controller to EMP proof them... are simply lying??--uninformed??-- stupid??... and are just using it as a marketing gimmick. If it was really that easy, the US military would have EMP proofed all of their equipment years ago. THEREFORE... if you have an operating solar system... then an EMP event will probably fry your inverter, solar charge controller, and any monitoring system you might have. What you need to do is simply have spare backup systems (or the internal electronics boards for the systems) in a Faraday cage... so that after an EMP event you can take your protected equipment out... and replace the damaged ones.

get a 5 year loan; it'll be around $100/month - no an uncommon electric bill. After 5 years, no more payments, and you can expect a good deal of life on the system, if the batteries weren't abused. You can piece together a cheaper system, but consider that this one is already pre-configured to work together, so you get a complete system.
@RhodeToPrepping8 жыл бұрын
Dan L Good point...our electrical bill has gone up to $297.00 per month. I know from years ago that if I hung my clothes outside on the line I could save $75.00 per month, each month , in the summer. This was 1992 a family of four. I am sure is much more now. I think this is worth looking into to use on a regular basis. What does EMP do to the panels? Seems like farm what I have heard that anything with a plug on it that is not protected would be zapped.

Slamming shit? Oh you mean market comparison, feel free to do your own market research than. I'll tell you what else is out there and that is scammers and con artists looking to cash in on people's fears, this looks like a good system compared to the ones I have looked at but caveat emptor (let the buyer beware). The way the system is put together with components and the warranties are good.

@@Cryptologist101 , I understand you being perhaps defensive, but believe the fellow by saying "slamming" things was a reference to your tendency to slam down to the table your bigger voltage inverter and battery! I thought it was just a dramatic effect in your good presentation!

They do have a website with current prices and more technical information. I would definitely be interested in the Total Solar Innovations products. I like the idea of the component system over the "all-in-one" units that have short life spans and even shorter warranties! I am just a 60 year old lady who likes the idea of being able to live off grid. They also have smaller units available for recreation and power outages. And they have a unit for RV use or a small cabin. I am dreaming of a small piece of land in the woods and a yurt!! With the reasonable prices, someday maybe that can be a reality!!
