As a YAS main Dragon's Breath does sorta work with tripmines. You must hit the boss with the tripmine first so the scorch stacks start ability based Then the scorch from dragon's breath will fill the rest up to give tripmine energy on ignition. Runs true for knives as well if you hit an enemy with it, then ignite through weapons, the ignition counts as ability damage and thus gives another tick of energy.

Highly recommend Ember of Char too to let the pipebomb scorch and create ignition combos, more grenade energy, and potentially back to back ignition procs with just tripmines on the same enemy :)

I'm not confident it was *always* this way, but I can say for certain at least as far back as Season of the Haunted the fan knives did give ability energy for each hit on the same target. So 100% tripmine energy on a fan knife throw if you hit a single target (as long as it didn't die from the first or second of the 3 knives). I absolutely loved this build on the Leviathan activity because there were so many yellow bar enemies that I could spam down with near-infinite tripmine combos

Came to confirm this. I would always flick up as I tossed the fan of knives. As long as the enemy was alive while landing all 3, i had a trip mine ready.

the reason that the tripmine is giving itself two instances of refund is because both scorch and ignitions count as abilities. I don't think it counts weapon perks, but it does count gunpowder gamble for both if you use the ignitions scorch fragment. Edit: forgot to mention this. They have to live long enough for the scorch to actually tick and do damage. Edit #2: you have never needed to fan the knives to individual targets. I've been playing since D2 released, and for the longest time my only build was young ahamkara's spine. I have more hours using this build than many people do playing the game, and I can say definitively that this has always been the case. the original loop before Solar 3.0 was tripmine, knives, tripmine, dodge while the grenade was in air, knives, trip, dodge, rinse and repeat. back then there was no scorch or ignitions, and you could do this loop to any enemy in any scenario. boss dps was especially potent with a demolitionist rocket launcher, but now we have dragon's breathe... Edit #3: I should really just reformat this entire comment, but I'm too lazy. Ember of singing vs ember of benevolence: which one? the answer is actually both if you are trying to do boss/champ dps. you can't get the dodge back fast enough from one or the other, but with both it's possible to do the aforementioned ability cycle. you really need the 400% from singing and the 400% from benevolence in order to pull off the infinite combo, otherwise you start having weird breaks where you need small amounts of passive regeneration. and you could fill that hole with actual weapons (weapons? in my shooter game!?!?), but it's more fun to do both. Final note. the build is really fun and highly nuanced. highly recommend. there is also a pvp version of the build using the proximity knife, but the price we paid to have this build returned to us was that build staying in hell where it (probably) belongs. it took me to many flawless lighthouse runs, though. it still kinda works, too. just not as much as it used to.

Things to note: Sticking the grenade TO an enemy deals like 250 dmg, which counts as ability damage Each individual knife is a single instance of damage Weapon ignitions do count but its inconsistent sometimes (Theres a dragons breath rotation) In higher end content, you aren't getting knife kills all too often, so try to spec more into grenade fragments in all honesty, you're gonna be using you knife a lot less that you think. Its more of a backup option if you're missing 33% Super hits count, so in between Goldy shots you can chuck a new grenade (Deadshot doubles this + if you get kills with the super) Tessalation's grenade shot counts Ex diris moths count I wish we got tripmine grenades on prismatic instead of swarm grenades...

I have a Will it build idea. It’s a Strand subclass one that I used a lot. It’s a very flexible build that can be altered however you want. The main focus is the aspects: Threaded Specter Whirling Maelstrom I used Mothkeepers as my exotic armor piece, and a weapon with Demolitionist. But you can use any weapons and exotic armor that you think would work better. But the aspects is essential. You basically dodge to make a clone to get away from the enemies that are focused on you, or shoot the clone to make threadlings. And turn enemies into tangles, and throw the tangle at groups of enemies. It will shred them. That’s the 2 main core mechanics behind this strand build. Fragments can be whatever you want.

Both knock em down and benevolance can be replaced by the fragment that gives you your dodge when you scortch targets, and using the 3 fragment aspect makes this free

Some handy tips I have found, kinetic with tremors and attrition orbs pair well, Khastov rifle works great as well, use a fusion or rocket side arm with incandescent, and if not using other exotic use dragons breath still loads of damage.

Hi I’m super happy these are back! The roaming super buff might even pull me away from the throwing knives on its own but also the golden gun procs the grenades so you can mix the shots with grenade throws, managing around 5/6 grenades for every super activation! so the damage goes way up with it

I use a build very similar to this one with YAS and Eriana for nightfall activities, and will be taking it into contest as well, so I'm happy to see this get some recognition once more! One thing I will note is that Ember of Ashes is largely unneeded on this build, as a fan knife (3x20 scorch) and tripmine (40 scorch) at base will inflict enough scorch to cause an ignition. It provides some breathing room for missing a knife (from 20 scorch to 30 for knives, and from 40 scorch to 60 for the tripmine), but considering how large Unstoppable Champions are, and how close to enemies this build plays, missing a knife doesn't usually happen, and a second tripmine / GG will usually clean up the rest of the scorch needed. Hence, I usually replace this fragment with Ember of Resolve to inflict cure when getting a grenade kill, as this will count for Gunpowder Gamble too. YAS builds can struggle with healing, especially when Monte Carlo isn't available to make up for any champion stuns and allow for a heal clip weapon, so any healing i can get is very important Definitely gonna have to try this with Golden Gun now! Thanks for the build update!

I want bungie to make base trip mines deal more damage to PvE combatants when stuck to walls instead of the enemies themselves. (Also, have them build up more damage the longer they are on the wall as part of the YAS exotic) It would give incentive to use them like they are in cutscenes and make them feel more trip mine-y. The most effective way to use this build in PvE just turns them into sticky nades, and that just makes the hunter trap fantasy disappear.

I love running this with lunas howl, healclip + incan + the origin trait that gives you yoyr grenade energy back is great. Then i use mountain top with demo and then just hot swap between those two, i also have dragon age in my back pocket that i use aswell.... absolutely amazing build.

If needing a bit more healing on top of healing by picking up orbs, something with heal clip / incandescent is nice. I am using Adhortative pulse with that combination and its really nice. But am going later trying the Ahamkara Spine and see if it suits me

I’ve been using warlock solar harmony, dragons breath/parasite, calus mini, kenetic is dealers choice. Solar nade, snap, and class is dealers choice but I use dive. Helion, and the buffed nades one. Stats to aim for 100 discipline, strength, and as much resil and recov as possible. Ashes,bigger ignitions one, char, last is dealers choice. Mod legs: reaper, pwr att, bomber Boots: better already,recoup, Helm: heavy ammo scout and finder and solar siphon(I think the siphon mods or on helms) Chest: dmg reduction mods Other mods are dealers choice to fill in the slots. Super I use song of flame but ultimately dealers choice.

I dont know what they did to Fan Knives but it seems like they are less reliable to hit with. Like i throw them directly at an enemy and its like they simply pass through the target. Did they neef them or something? And one of the things i would change is instead of the handcannon, i use BXR-Battler because it has incandescent and Pugilist which also raises the melee fast if youre out of class ability. And resolve which heals on grenade kills. It keeps you alive so much.

Hey maybe you should use the super that refunds ammo on ignition final blows and replace those two end mods with one that causes ignitions on final blows and one that spreads scorch with those ignitions. That’s how I would personally do it but good on ya for staying strong and sticking to the build

ignitions are coded to be "source" first, so if ignitions start from weapon damage, it counts as weapon damage. This is why star eater buffs song of flame, becomes ignitions come from "super" radiant/weapons of light increase damage for dragons breath because the ignition comes from "weapon" and ignitions from grenade/powered melee are the same. It always starts with the source of the ignition then does the calculations for increase in ignition damage based off the source. Just a fun thing to remember when people try to come up with fun builds.

It's why Sunbracers were so annoying to use the one season we had an artifact mod where solar weapons scorched unscorched targets. If someone shot something and you snapped it, the resulting ignition wouldn't activate Sunbracers because it was a weapon kill, not an ability kill T_T

@@Zombo2112 yeah it does if you use it with a solar grenade that can specifically cause ignitions, the damage bonus from verities would apply to the ignition because it came from a grenade. Synthos also increases snap damage from the regular powered melee causing an ignition, but does not work with SOF snap ignition, because SOF is a super.
