Just wanted to mention for the budget-conscious among us, the Bravia 7 gets VERY close to the 9's performance at half the price. The tradeoff is the wide-angle performance (colors start to wash out at 20° off or so), a little more sensitivity to room reflections, and it's slightly less bright (although still much brighter than most of its competition). Definitely check them out side by side in a showroom and factor in your room's needs if you think the 9 is just a bit too expensive at the moment.

Sony wasn't fooling around when they chose "Cinema comes home" as their brand slogan. I felt it and me and my wife decided to not to go to cinema anymore, this tv is that good. Color accuracy, quality of picture, brightness, deep blacks.... it is NOT OLED, but it is not ANY LESS THAN OLED , Its literally 99.99% there with its deep blacks, with added bonus of brighness.. oh man oh man!! bye bye movie time!

I'd been looking at 65" Sony TVs to replace my 2021 55X900J. Considered The Bravia 7, 8, 9, and the A95L. Only one I actually could see in person was the 8, and it was nice as far as contrast. Read as many reviews as possible. I ended up purchasing the B7; many have said it's 90% of the B9, and Costco offered it at $1299 with a premium backlit remote and 5 year warranty. I'll receive it in a couple days and have the chance to offer my thoughts. If it doesn't meet my needs I will return it and get either the B8 or 9. UPDATE: I received the Bravia 7 and it's quite incredible! RTINGS provided a basic setup, which I altered a bit. The picture is bright, detailed, and very colorful. I may not be highly-trained in setup, or have the highest detailed eye, but I'm very pleased with the B7. Can't imagine how awesome the Bravia 9 might be; the B7 was only a bit more than I paid for my prior X55X90J LED (2021).
@tjniesАй бұрын
I mentioned I liked the Bravia 8's contrast and deep color, but something occurred to me: at Best Buy, the TVs are all cranked to the highest brightness each can muster. The B8 was definitely darker than the other Sony LEDs on the wall. It made me think if I changed the picture to standard, Professional etc, it may not be bright enough for my well-lit living area. That made me choose the B7.
@Icebergslim33329 күн бұрын
@tjnies Congrats. I'm glad the B7 is working out for you. I have the B8 and I absolutely love it. Mine is in my loft but I also have a 77" a80l in my living room with huge windows and it is still bright enough. I love both of these tvs. For future reference, don't worry about OLEDs not being bright enough. I think you'll be surprised when you get it home and see for yourself.

Great review, thank you Andrew and Kristi. I am a proud owner of a B9 myself and love it. I am truly baffled as to the business decision of Sony not to offer this item and others in much much larger sizes. With the exception of the X90L at 98", why do you think Sony hasn't decided to enter into the 100+ inch market? The demand is truly there I think. I can't fathom why they are opting out of this arena. I am from the days of the 90s where Sony was the leader in the pack of innovation and it just seems they are actively willing to forego this aspect (size) of the consumer wishlist. I know of many people who, as you articulated above, would want bigger over something that is "technically" better because only the niche home audio/video enthusiasts would know or see the difference. I'm pretty baffled. I wonder what they're hoping to accomplish...

Also, I was totally sold on the 85QM8 since it does 90% of what the B9 does at half the cost (your 98” is my 85”). However, the Bravia 9 does some things no one else does like: Sony pictures core (underrated based on my research). Has all the hdr/dolby vision video options, dts-X atmos etc audio, looks like it’s the best pic quality/upscaling for Dish network/direct tv feeds (something almost no reviewer displays or talks about), build quality, Q/C.. Basically, when you said “puts everything I wanted in one tv”, that’s exactly how I felt!! However, I can only hope that at some point it lowers in price substantially, otherwise it’s the 85QM8 $1999 for me or wait until tcl comes out with the “QM9/QM951”. 🎉 great review!

Under the more accurate modes it was just ok. It didnt look that much better than my Hisense 75 U8k and my hisense was 1/3 of the price. The bravia did have better black levels and blooming performance but not way better and certainly not as good as the OLED I was looking to replace. For the price it just wasnt a good enough improvement in performance so I returned it and went with an LG G4. It really seems to check all the boxes for me. Black levels, accuracy, plenty bright, not quite as bright as the Bravia 9 but it pops when it needs to so still plenty of wows. Really a great tv and I highly recommend you review it Andrew.

Great review. I am considering the Bravia 9 as the 75” in Europe is just over 3000€ (same price I just paid for the 65” A95L). In Europe, Sony are not protecting their A95L screens well enough with a single foam layer loosely taped to the screen and sandwiched between some plastic and polystyrene inserts. My examples were manufactured 8/2024 and 12/2024 so straight off the production line. Two of mine have arrived with the coating rubbed off in the two top corners. Latest one is not so bad though as it was transported upright. Bravia 9 comes with the foam + cardboard layer so this should prevent the coating from scratching rubbing off during transit. Despite how amazing the A95L is and I am concerned with the fragile screen and longevity with OLED/QD-OLED. Still have a Trinitron from 1997 and my Pioneer KRP-500M Kuro is still going strong after 15 years. I dont think these OLEDs will last that long. Maybe 5-7 years tops. Therefore I am considering the B9 although I don’t really need to brightness as I live in Finland and watch in the dark :)

Good morning A&K. Great review of what sounds like the new benchmark in TVs. Glad to hear it also offers good off-axis performance which is important in situations where viewers are spread more widely around a room. While Sony's decision not to offer this TV in a 100" model, I've got a strong feeling this will be rectified soon with CES just around the corner... Hello 100" Bravia 10! Size matters! Thanks again for the fabulous reviews and enjoy the rest of the day!

Great review Andrew! I have the A95K and love that tv (OLED), but I want the Bravia 9 85" since larger screen flagship TVs are coming down in price (Black Friday pricing). It looks like Sony is moving off OLEDS to the almost perfect mini-LEDS as their flagship.

The 85" size is what I needed and just had delivered for my smaller great room and over the fireplace cubby. Black Friday price and cash back got the price down to $3600. I am very happy with this TV. So far, the set calibrations for Netflix and Prime TV are outstanding except for sports, too bright on white and can't be adjusted as far as I can see. HDR on KZbin looks and sounds amazing. For streaming SDR TV the standard setting has the best colors, and the cinema and professional are too yellow or dim and skin tones wash yellow. I don't seem to need a sound bar so found value in that with the onboard great sound system. I saw advantages over OLED and excellent picture for a bright room. No issues with the angle viewing but have to turn off the kitchen lights at night for darker scenes or reflections can be noticed.

Even if I don't agree with you, I appreciate the work and effort the Mrs. and you put into your reviews. So,for what it's worth, I stared at a G4 and a Bravia 9 last night. Yes, I know. The configuration in a big box store is not the configuration one would use at home. Let alone was each set up properly, yadda yadda, source content, yadda yadda. Still, the G4 picture--TO MY EYES--was significantly more pleasing than the Bravia. I love that we have so many choices in the TV market these days.

The b9 is nice, but it’s not the best picture quality TV in the market by a longshot. It’s best to him. That is what he’s trying to convey most likely. I have the Sony 95K. QDOED it is no joke, pleased with this bad boy and I’ma ride it until something else better come along down the road

I spent about 45 mins at one of my best buys and stared at this TV. I fully know the content is not and the experience at the store is not the best. But at least right now I’m still happy with my 85X95K. I can see where there were a lot of great improvements but I know that V2 of this tech is prolly going to get me to upgrade at least the media room TV and maybe the living room tv for the wife. It looked amazing even in store mode. I almost got the Bravia 7 since you said it was 90% of the Bravia 9 but cheaper, but I went with an oled. If I was willing to spend for it I would get the Bravia 9, it’s just on another level

A&K, appreciate your in depth reviews and perspectives as always. You bring up a great point about the competition now not just being between Mini-LED and OLED, but now UST projectors, especially at this price point. While no other TV really compares to the Bravia 9, I'm curious about comparisons to projectors. What has your experience been with projectors and what keeps you going back to TVs?
@andrewrobinsonreviews2 ай бұрын
Projectors cannot keep pace with the latest HDR formats despite many claiming they can and/or trying. Moreover, more and more folks are looking for mixed-use spaces, and even ALR screens cannot compete with 98 to 115-inch TVs in mixed usage and lighting. Before 98-inch TVs came to market or became more accessible I could still make a case for projection, but now, not so much. Unless you're still rockin' a dedicated theater room and want or can accommodate a screen size LARGER than 120 inches diagonally, projection still has a use case. For everyone else...not so much.

This is a great TV and we're enjoying the 65" Bravia 9 in our family room. My only complaint is the Bravia 9 makes my mid-range 2024 Samsung (living room) feel like it's generations behind it in terms of picture quality and "smartness". Is this the trappings of having the best of the best or what?

Amazing review as always. In shopping for my recently purchased tv I had the privilege to compare a bunch of high end TVs side by side. My ranking would be 1- Sony s95l 2- lg g4 3- Sony Bravia 9 Bravia 9 was close, but didn’t match the insane contrast of a high end OLED. Hands down the best led though. I ended up with a g3 as they were going on clearance.

Bravia 9 is like if the Z9D and Z9K had a baby. You get some seriously impressive HDR impact but the backlight is good enough to make sure black levels are held in check. No dimming or image retention to deal with either it's just a really versatile TV. for reference, I have a calibrated 75" which I've used for about 4 months now.

I’m in the market for an 85 inch tv to replace my Sony Z9F 75 inch tv, I’m seriously debating between the Bravia 9, and the X95L, I don’t know if the gap between both is a lot picture quality wise but the price gap is quite significant and I don’t know if I should wait till April before making the purchase (fear of not finding one at 85 inch by then) or should I just make the move now? I’d appreciate any solid advice 🙏🏾

@@KristiWright That would be awesome! I keep seeing two sides of opinions online for the B7. Either the viewing angles and reflections make it a step backwards for some, while others find it very manageable (brightness outweighs reflections, side angle not that bad). I would like to imagine it is blown out of proportion, and not that bad, but it seems to be the one thing keeping it from being as raved about as I would expect.

We’ve been rocking the 55” Sony 9005 for the past six years and the picture quality is still quite good. My only gripe is the fast-ish decaying processing and UI horsepower. We’ve had some color issues with Netflix HDR & Dolby Vision and audio issues streaming from Amazon and Disney. Apple TV 4K to the rescue, I hope! Never used it before and quite excited to see how it is to daily drive! Also, it seems to have a tool for calibrating your TV with an iPhone, so excited to try that feature too.
@SENCORE_ISF2 ай бұрын
I have integrated and calibrated three 85” Bravia 9’s The Bravia 9 is without question the best QLED television I have measured to date, and in a room with high ambient light the television I would more often than not recommend to my clients. However, For rooms with moderate to low ambient light there is no better image for today’s content than the A95L. As good as the Bravia 9 is, it cannot produce images with the precision level micro contrast of the A95L. Also the Bravia 9 is no match for the Color Gamut of the A95. To my eye, regarding color it’s not even close. The A95 walks away from the Bravia 9. Annnd don’t attempt to compare the A95’s viewing angle to the B9. It’s not even in the same ballpark. When viewing content mastered at 1000NITS on the Bravia 9 I absolutely felt I was (as good as the image was) missing the depth and inky black level of the A95. Given the A95 maxes out at 77inches and cannot natively approach content mastered at 3000NITS without clipping the Bravia 9 fits logically within Sony’s lineup and offers a unique beneficial set of features confirming that there is NO best TV. There is only the best TV for your environment, personal use case and budget. Thanks Andrew, great review as always

Thanks for your commentary. We are considering a new 65" TV, but no local store has the B9 nor A95L. Or the Bravia 7 for that matter! I have seen the Bravia 8 and do like it. I've read and heard all of the considerations between OLED and MiniLED, but it comes down to my situation. Bright room, lots of adjacent windows, but we generally just watch cable during the day. Sounds like OLED is a good possibility!
@SENCORE_ISF2 ай бұрын
@ OLED is a possibility, but given your room condition, I would recommend only an upper mid to high tier OLED with great reflection handling. The Samsung S 95D is a wonderful choice for rooms with high reflection and ambient light during daylight viewing. For a model a bit more budget friendly the S90 D from SAMSUNG is also a great choice. The industry, including myself loves it this year. It is a QDOLED in the 55 65 & 77 inch sizes. This means amazing color Fidelity unsurpassed off ACCESS viewing angles and sufficient brightness to overcome most ambient light conditions. It is crucial to know the Bravia 8 is a good television, but it is not a QDOLED it is a WRGB OLED. This means lower overall color volume and saturation, lower off access viewing angle and strangely or not so strangely there is a greenish tint when moving off access of the B8. The B8, bests the SAMSUNG options above in only one category and that is video processing. No matter which TV you choose. There will be some concessions made, but given the other considerations, I believe they would take precedent over a modest difference in video processing that you might not even care to notice unless you see the television side-by-side hope this helps ☺️

I prefer the Hisense U8N
@SENCORE_ISFАй бұрын
@ Interesting, You have my attention. Curious, in what way specifically do you prefer the U8N? After measuring both displays I would liken the U8N to a bit of a brute. It is yes technically brighter than the Bravia 9 but literally at the expense of virtually all other metrics televisions are judged by. The U8N demonstrates fairly dramatic over brightening of the PQEOTF Curve, blooming and Halo, with leading edge zone transitions noticeably darker. All of this before we even discuss Video Processing and its lack luster scaling capability. Without question Sony could have made a television as bright as the U8N, I know this because I asked them that very question at the roadshow. The B9 represents the brightest QLED available with the greatest control of its Backlight.
