The boxer 6 is a naturally balanced engine. It also fires balanced, meaning, it fires on the left bank then the right bank, then back to the left bank, never more than 1 firing in a row on the same bank. This makes it sound great.

Here's my problem with the Harley sound I grew up loving it but here's the thing they alllllllll sound that way. Yeah I know cams, valves, and single connecting rod, all these things have changed slightly through the years and have caused the sound to be slightly different but let's be honest potato potato potato. It's not a bad sound but it's like well shit everyone and there mother sounds like this. It's like when you see a mustang these days it's just a regular ass car cuz everyone has one it takes away that little bit of specialness it may have had. That's why I've owned three v4s only two vtwins one 6 cylinder, and a single cylinder 2 stroke. Once you've heard open headers on a Yamaha VMAX fire breathing V4 you forget about the potato pretty quick

Just may be the best American Bike ever made. This was engineered and built in Marysville, OH essentially by hot rodding a Goldwing and then showing of that great flat six engine by heaping on generous amounts of chrome. It never feels as large as it looks, is very nimble for a large cruiser and soaks up the bumps of the road fantastic. On top of that typical Goldwing reliable. A guy I know is well over 500k miles never getting into the engine and many have several hundred thousand miles. I agree with a fellow below that said sounds more like a Porsche six. Is it the best sounding bike ever - well that is subjective like everything motorcycles, but it is truly unique and will still kick the snot out of most modern stock crusier, bagger, dressers.

The Honda Valkyrie in one word: CHARACTER No other mass production bike carries as much bone stock character, than the Valkyrie. It might not pull respect everywhere you go... but it's the one bike that never gets disrespected anywhere. Only the most ignorant and hardcore of the "V-twin or nothing" crowd, will turn their nose up at a Valkyrie... and the soundtrack alone will tip a few visors with the street bike crowd. Even though the engine is a Goldwing F6 with higher RPM cams, it doesn't feel like it. You have plenty of torque in the lower range, with added pull up top. Make no mistake, it's a heavy bike... but 5 minutes in the seat through the curves, and you'll wonder where the extra pounds are. The weight is low and easily manageable. Steering is light for the bike, but very stable. Only the most daring of riders will find the only tradeoff to the Valkyrie's design... and that's lean angle. Even if you do find its limits, the low center and associated stability will give you all the warning and capability to pull out. For this reason, I don't recommend running tires with higher traction than a good touring tire. Yes, the bike is capable... but with stickies, it can easily exceed the instincts you'll need to keep the difference between scuffing nerf bars and boot heels, to scarring your helmet. As timeless a bike as you will ever find in mass numbers.

To each their own. What matters is that you get out and ride. And, ride what you like and express yourself and set up your Bike the way you want it to be. It would be boring if everyone had the same taste; I like variety and individuality, that's what's really cool... :) With that all being said, that's why I have always ridden HD's... They are the easiest to modify, rebuild, maintain, service, work on, find "Affordable" parts for, customize, trick out, chop up, bob out, or hot-rod to what ever level you want them to perform in for whatever taste you may have; especially, the "Sportster" is a easy Bike to turn into anything you want. Sportsters make great Drag Bikes, Cafe Bikes, Hooligan Flat Track Dirt Track Bikes, Bobbers, Choppers, and Cruisers. No other Motorcycle in the "World" is more customizable than a HD Motorcycle... Then, you add the HD "Pedigree" and you've also got a decent "Investment" for a Motorcycle, too... For me, the Harley-Davidson, Air-Cooled, V-Twin, sounds better than any other Motorcycle on the "Planet!" But, as I stated in the beginning, "To each their own..." Peace, HD :) ppp

I have a '97 Valkyrie with baffled Cobras too and I LOVE it! Love the sound, but I also like the sound of a few other bikes a bit more. Something about Ducatis with the right exhaust is probably one of my favorites, but I love the sound of a lot of other bikes too. And as crazy as this sounds, I sometimes even miss the angry chainsaw sound of my old RD400 with pipes (I seriously can't remember the brand? Been a looong time.). Riiinnngg Ding Ding Ding! And I'm never going to take the baffles out either, as I like not having my neighbors wanting to kill me every time I fire it up. I'm the second owner of the Valk and I've owned it for about 15 years and I've yet to have a major repair or fix on it. The most involved service I've had done to it was when I had to have my front brake line redone and cleaned to get some old goo out of it, but that was it. The odd tune up and changing my fluids when they need it and it just keeps running and running perfectly. Reliable AF! And it still gets a lot of attention for being an older bike too. Honda really did an amazing job when they made the Valkyrie! Oh, and I talked with a really cool dude who owns a Triumph Rocket at a gas station and I was blown away by everything about that bike! He had aftermarket pipes on it and it was the most beastly sounding bike I've ever heard! I love my Valkyrie, but I'd kill to have that Triumph!

@PabloVaughan
@PabloVaughan 4 жыл бұрын
@@afterburner2869 Other than either checking it out thoroughly yourself, if you have the skill, or maybe having a mechanic look it over, nothing really. Repair/maint history would be nice, but not required. If you can do a test ride first, and you should be able to, do that and have the necessary riding gear with you. I wouldn't buy a bike without a cash in hand test ride though, but that's me. My bike has never had a major mechanical issue ever! It rides like a dream and with the low slung engine they handle remarkably well for such a big bike. Power for days! If it doesn't come with a windshield, get one, as everything's so much better with one than without. Saddlebags are really nice for trips, but most come with them. I also had memory foam added when I redid the seats and that was a good decision too. Most Valks have been well treated and ridden smartly, so it should be in good shape and ready for many for years on the road. Honda did a killer job making a reliable, easy to ride bike. I wish you good luck and I hope this bike is in nice shape and brings you years of fun, if you decide to buy it. Any other questions that you can think of, just hit me in the comments. Best bike I've ever owned and I LOVE my Valkyrie!

Pablo Duganheim I appreciate the information, thanks. Fortunately this bike is nicely equipped with a windshield and saddlebags. I will definitely be taking it for a test ride. A couple more questions, how many miles can you get out of a tank of gas? I am not the tallest guy around, 5’8. Will I have any problems riding such a big bike? I’m concerned about getting my feet on the ground to properly maintain control when stopped.
@PabloVaughan
@PabloVaughan 4 жыл бұрын
@@afterburner2869 I'm glad to hear that it sounds like it's well equipped. Unfortunately, one thing that at least the earlier Valks lacked is a gas gauge. Yours might have one, but my '97 doesn't have one. It's a 5 gal tank and gas mileage isn't that great for a bike. I rarely ever pushed much beyond 120 miles without refilling it. Reserve is said to be a half gallon when you flip the reserve tank switch, but I've never run out of gas and I rode from Florida to Az without a problem. I have no exact idea what the absolute final mileage is but I think I remember hearing that it's 34-35 mpg. The one thing you should do is just zero out the odometer every time you get gas. If you forget and you're in a city with gas stations around it shouldn't ever be a problem with the reserve gas though. It blubbers a bit and and there's always enough warning to switch it over. This sounds much worse than it is though, so don't worry about it and just get used to resetting your OD when gassing up. I'm 6'2" but my niece who is maybe 5'6" was able to ride it by herself without issue, as the seat and ride height are fairly low. If anything, being a bit shorter means that you'll have even better coverage from the windshield. I've seen other people around the 5 foot mark on them too, so you have no worries whatsoever. What's amazing is that my best friend is 6'6" and he's comfortably on it too. Great bike and almost every week there's been at least one person who wants to talk about it.
@afterburner2869
@afterburner2869 4 жыл бұрын
Pablo Duganheim I ride a Suzuki Intruder and I use the odometer as my gas gauge as well, so I’m used to that. My bike also will cough and sputter when it’s time to go to reserve, so it sounds like it has some things in common with my Intruder. Everything that I have read and heard about this bike has been overwhelmingly positive and that is very reassuring. Thanks for all of your feedback and I will keep you posted if I get it this evening. It’s about an hour and a half ride to see the bike, so if I get it, I will have a nice ride back home to get to know it.

As a lifelong aviation enthusiast (and pilot) the valkerie sounds NOTHING like a radial. If you take a radial engine, slice off two cylinders...you end up with basically a Harley engine (looks and sounds the same too). The same pop-pop-pop sound. The Valkerie sounds a little like a porsche..also a 6-boxer, or a larger Cessna or Piper aircraft (also 6-boxer), though airplanes rev a lot slower.

Cupholder is hilarious. The audio here does not do it justice but this Valkyrie boxer 6-cylinder or a chain drive cam VFR Honda V4, or of course the legendary Ducati V-Twins with aftermarket exhaust are a few examples of engines with a sound and feel every bit as soulful and usually far more powerful than a Harley. To hear the sound accompanied by that never-ending pull forward that you don't get with a Harley is life-changing...

The original Wing was a 75,(I still have one,the bike I learned to ride on all those years ago)when the pregnant cockroach-AKA- muffler went south, replaced it with a 4 into 2 header (the roach was 1 big muffler with 2 outlets),gave a real nice snarl when opened up,also saw one of those 1st gen.wings once with a blower on it,capped by a Holley 4 holer,went like stink.

I miss my Valkyrie. Mine had TBR Racing exhaust! 4 inch dual cans looked like grapefruit shooters!!! It was all day riding comfort. I had an Arlen Ness wrap around rear fender and Ness seats front and back! 🥲 man I miss that bike! It was a rocket!!! Surprised many sport bike guys, I would walk away from anything under 1000 cc!

most harley guys cant ever appreciate other bikes,like marrying the first girl you ever saw...had harleys,goldwings,sports bikes the lot..tried everything and owned everything...for me best sounding bike is Aprillia RSV 1000 also a v twin...makes a harley sound like a cement mixer and has the power and grunt to go with it...ill never buy a harley again...nice to look at nice sound comfy but there is much better bikes and much more reliable for half the cost.....of course just like BMW car owners badge snobs will be upset by my comment but it is the truth,look past that loyalty to a brand and all that image thing and try other bikes..you will be pleasantly surprised.

The airplane engine that has cylinders going in a circle around the prop is called a "radial" configuration. V-twins are a very abbreviated version of that form factor. That Val is sweet. I would like to own one some day. I had a 1976 GL1000 that I loved dearly until it was taken from me (almost along with my life) by a little old lady running a stop sign. Oh well.... Nice channel. Maybe i can buy a bike off of you one day soon. Stay safe.

The. Vallkary is an all right bike for those who like it... You've got to sell bikes. Harley panhead costs twice as much as a road glide. But for s beautiful sound? The panhead was / is the greatest. Do you get any? If I could afford it I would buy one and spend the money on up grades. Belt drive ( easy) 12 volt a fairing. More gear ? Leave the Kickstart. Where can I get those kevlar gloves?

The only thing smoother is a 12........ I can remember when different cylinder configs were available from just about everyone. Nowadays it's almost all singles, twins and fours with the odd exception, of course. I mean Honda have three different bikes that use the same motor... they once had two different V4s at the same time.
