I love armor of the sporekeeper! haste spores is just too good. it's an amazing support ability for your whole team to utilize. Makes it so you don't even have to run haste on your spell casters

This is similar in concept to a build I was using for Jaheira, to keep her consistent with her BG1+BG2 iterations. I did 5 spore druid, 5 fighter, 2 paladin, used the scimitar that scales with the spellcasting modifier and a shield, and got a pretty resilient combatant with the capability of dealing high burst damage with smites.

I caution against running this build (Edit: while leveling) in-game. While on paper its nice, the entire druid half of the build is contingent on maintaining the Temporary HP on your Symbiotic Entity. At 2 levels of druid (where you will stop till 7th) you only have 8 temp HP on 2 Wild Shape charges which is effectively 2 hits per Rest on a melee focused character. I would advise running spore druid as a mid-range damage dealer, in addition to starting with a higher druid investment to help preserve those Temp HP. Otherwise you will likely get more benefit out of most of the other melee damage dealers. That being said, play the way you want to.

@@jeremiegartner464 Bear rage give Resistance (0.5x damage) so it would allow you to have the same effective temp HP from SE (4 per Druid level) while picking up Extra Attack. However you will be limited to 4 rage charges per long rest vs SE which is 2 charges per short rest. I'd score them as pretty equal all things considered, however they both have the issue of trying to maintain the temp HP in melee. Personally I'm much more a fan of the caster splits as its easier to maintain the Temp HP. Even doing a 10-2 lock for Agonizing EB will probably net more damage per round than the necrotic melee and from range (well behind the zombies). though that is my bias.

This is good advice. Spore druid is one of the hardest builds to multiclass because you need to keep getting druid levels to keep the temp HP high. There's not many ways to get around it outside of rage either, and that has obvious drawbacks for a spellcaster. That said, the benefit of many attacks from monk and a high wisdom + shillelagh could make this build pretty good even when symbiotic entity ends up going down.

@@garion046 I entirely agree that it can be powerful at endgame. If you can find a way to protect the temp HP the combo is really strong; I'm testing abusing magical darkness. That being said, trying to level as a split class is almost always going to have drawbacks, which is especially the case when you want to focus on 2 6th level features. IMO, while keeping the theme, the character will feel better if you take it to 9 WOH monk first, then make your swap lategame when you get your Sporkeeper armor and can split to 6/3+.

one item that would really work well, if you go for a wood elf is the Underdark sword (even if you put it on someone like shadowheart) for the buff to either buff your spore summons with a bonus to attack or a bonus to damage. Plus with it being a finesse weapon, its super good on someone like shadowheart as you dont lose damage for not building strength (i always respec her into a life cleric - just better overall)

I feel like mentioning 3 levels Thief is a solid caster with melee capability, dual wield Scimitar or Short Sword/hand crossbows for range. Stab 3x or Cast/Stab/Stab. 2d6 Sneak attack is great for martial aspects, and the versatility of cunning action is amazing on a caster. You hit conjure woodland being earlier. Because of the 9 levels in Spore druid you get Conjure Elemental which I love. This is my current Tav in a playthrough. A two weapon ranger to lvl 5 could be pretty awesome too thanks to Wisdom synergy. I would play Beast Master for Dire Raven with Bad Omen, or Wolf for Lunging Bite Knockdowns. Give yourself and all your spore buddies advantage on an enemy. I feel like this is only tangentially related but I have absolutely waded into melee with my Tempest 2, Spore Druid 10. The real focus of the build is upcast call lightning, but situationally melee while having great armor is fun as is the counter damage via wrath of the storm. Some people see being silenced as a huge issue this guy sees it as a chance to pull out a blade. ;)

One thing to note for Savage Attacker on this build is that it only applies to melee weapon damage rolls, so it won't apply to this builds unarmed damage rolls. It does also apply to thrown weapon damage rolls though so it may still be worth it for some players that also take Tavern Brawler.

Generally speaking, savage attacker is worse than an ASI bump. +atk is almost always better than +dmg

@@garion046 Generally you are correct, and Savage Attacker should probably never be a lvl 4 pick, but there are several builds that gain a bunch of extra damage die/crit multipliers that really do benefit from it. The most notable of these are Smite builds (Paladin 2/Swords Bard 10 or Paladin 5/Bladelock 5/Fighter 2) and Thrown Weapon builds. Open Hand could have been another such due to their extra damage die from equipment and lvl 6 ability but it doesn't apply to Unarmed which is what I was trying to outline.

For my main character spore druid build I went with Githyanki for all social skills every day Started as battle cleric for heavy armor and keeping up the spell slots and getting bless and a few extra cantrips has been great I did the rest in druid. With items I still feel I contribute to melee attacks, have a huge temp hp pool to absorb dmg, wearing heavy armor with a shield for good ac.and since I have all my spell slots I'm still a strong caster. Alert has been a life saver feat for getting those aoe debuff spells off to control the flow of battle. Anyways, thanks for your breakdown, spore druid has been my favorite build so far in the game.

If you're going for a Monk dual class it is sort of important what race you pick because the weapon proficiencies each race gives you count towards your Monk weapons.

10 Spore Druid and 2 into Wizard is where its at, and Armour of Sporekeeper is completely busted rn and changes the way you play Spore Druid. As long as you unequip and re-equip your armor after every combat encounter, all your spores will return, including Haste cloud, which can haste your enter party, including summons, which can't abuse Speed Potions. You should have up to 18 summons all of which you can Haste: Water Myrmidon (upcast Conjure Elemental), 3x Flying Ghoul (upcast Animate Dead), 4x Ghouls (Danse Macabre), 1x Deva (Summon Deva), 2x Ice Mephit (Conjure Minor Elemental), 1 Dryad/1 Wood Woad (Cinjure Woodland Beings), 1 Mummy (Crypt Lord Ring), 4x Fungal zombies. You can also summon a Cambion with Infernal Rapier, but you would rather use Staff of Cherished Necromany imo.

Love spore druid builds! Probably the class ive had the most fun playing so far. I think spore druid melee builds REALLY need to focus on action economy rather than building like a typical melee class, since extra attack isnt actually two action (since I believe you must weapon attack to get the second weapon attack option, but you cant use these actions for other things like spells). I’ve had the most success with my spore spellsword build by starting off as a fighter with dual wield for full damage on off hand attacks and CON Proficiency for concentration, then 2 levels of durid for circle of spore, then 3 levels of rogue for thief extra bonus action at lvl 6. By lvl 3 you will have 3 attacks per turn (one main hand or spell attack, one off hand attack at full power, and halo of spores) with 4 attacks at lvl 6. This also allows you to dash and still get in two attacks early on and then you can spec further into dual wield feat to use say a staff in main hand for spells and other weapon in your off hand to actually attack with. After lvl6 thief, you can go into 6 more lvls of druid or add in one more level of fighter for action surge if desired. 10 Str, 16 Dex, 14 Con, 10 Int, 16 Wis, 8 Cha as a Half Orc for the bonus to crit damage and survivability. Spore druid/Monk sounds like a blast too, just wanted too though!

When I do this build after my current warlock playthrough, I'm most likely gonna do 10 Spore Druid/ 2 Monk. I'm also gonna take the dual wielder feat and rock double Quarterstaves. Staves actually stack with each other when casting spells and with high dex/wis gonna help me survive and have initiative. I want to try out to be a summoner with strong spell slinging and who can dish out close range damage when someone decides to get close.

From experience I genuinely wish I started as Drow for my Spore Druid. The fact that the d6 necrotic damage rider also applies to your hand crossbows is incredible. Which is important because it doesn't do that in tabletop. Makes it so you can stay a little farther away from combat too.

If you are dual wielding, you could go for the 2 weapon feat and then offhand the mace that raises the str to 18 (underdark mage tower). Another option might be a bard 6 as the "melee" option with the sword school option. Gives you the ability to hit multiple targets, use your ranged attack as an mobility option or even bolster your AC by 4, which is basically the shield spell. As an addition if you start as the bard, you gain Longsword proficiency and getting access to the Phalar Aluve is really quick if you want to beeline to it. Remember the shrieking ads the damage to every instance of damage dealt. Your reaction spores hit twice (not double damage, they hit twice), if your sporecloud is active. In addition you could also skip out on the 2nd attack option and go Bard 3, mage 2 (Necromancer) and spore7 or something, gaining access to high level spells (all 3 classes are full caster level classes). Tons of ways to play an approach it all.

My first and current build is a full spores druid dual-wielder. On lower difficulties she can shred in melee and with 20 dex and armor of agility her AC is 24. Don’t need to pass concentration checks if no one hits you lol

BUG WARNING:I made a similar build and unless it has been patched, Shillelagh does not work. Something about the game chooses to use your monk ability to use DEX over STR for monk weapons even over using WIS when shillelagh is up. I had a +3 in DEX and +5 WIS thinking I’d use WIS for attacks and damage and still have really good casting, found out really late I was using DEX due to the base monk feature overwriting my Shillelagh, if you have any levels in monk, don’t take shillelagh because the game won’t use it.

Oath of the ancients is nice and thematic. I would go either 2 paladin 10 druid or 5 paladin 7 druid. (ps you can dump charisma still since you dont really need/use it!)

I actually built a druid-fighter once, but I only focused on WIS, and heavily relied on Wyll's rapier (the one he got from Mizora), which sucks because the build worked the best on dual wield, and you can't dual wield the rapier (unless you want to spent a feat for it). If only there's 2 of Jaheira's scimitar...

you could pick ranger instead of fighter, and go the 2 weapon fighting style, if you 3 levels, you can even get either gloom stalker's bonus to initiative and ambush(and hiding, as well as superior dark vision, regardless of race), or hunter, and go for either an extra 1d8 attack on anything below max hp, or horde breaker to hit 2 enemies close to each other. you dont get the heavy armor, but you do get the martial weapon proficiency, so you could get any race and use rapiers.

I got dejected from playing spores druid during act 2 when I came up against a lot of undead who were immune to necrotic damage. I guess that is where your other levels carry you.

i feel like paladin oathbreaker could be a good choice as well. specially for a MC, since you can pump charisma, get your subclass early(so dont need much investment if you dont want to), and it even get a necrotic damage of its own. alongside the equpiment bonus of paladin. it wont hit as hard, but if you are going for a horde style play, paladin may not be a bad choice either.

Necromancer Wizard 6, Spores Druid 6... is a good combo.... using the level 20 Multi-class mod, 8 Necro 12 Spores even better.

You're a little overly focused on staves, and ignoring the other weapon you can shillelagh: clubs. There's the Ironwood Club, which gets an extra D4 of damage when Shillelaghed. And, of course, the Club of HIll Giant Strength, which sets your str to 19, handy if you don't want to put points into strength, but do still want Tavern Brawler for your unarmed attacks. Or just be able to loot things to your hearts content with your main character. They're also light, meaning you can put the Ironwood Club in your main hand, and the Hill Giant one in the off-hand. Just be sure to turn off the auto off-hand attack. Oh, and early on, there are torches, which when lit provide an extra D4 of fire damage ;)

I need to go back & look at build videos, because I suck at figuring out builds/multiclassing on my own 😅 Recently tried making Jaheria into a Barbarian (Wildheart)/Druid (Moon) and I made it perfectly sucky. Tried to Rage, then turn into an Owlbear, but then watched as could only do 1 each turn, and only get 1 attack each turn. Back to the KZbin videos to have smarter people tell me what to do! 🤣

Barbarian 2/Druid 10, can be good, as it gets you rage and reckless attack, and you get all the goodies from high level Moon Druid, including extra attacks on Wildshape.

There was a mention of how Halo of Spores scales to 1d10 ar level 10 (26:27) Do not level to 10 for this, it is a pitiful increase of 2 dpr at best and you can do infinitely better with extra attack.

At the end of act one you could respec to dump stat dex to take tavern brawler than wear the gloves that set dex to 18. You get i believe the same amount of ac thanks to monks unarmoured defence. You will have to give up your armour slot however

lol, I laughed a lot in this video, listening to you flub your words and chastise yourself just sounds like my own internal monologue. :) I think 6 spore 6 oathbreaker paladin would lean much heavier into the army of undead alongside melee dps. Using spellslots for divine smites helps too since you don't seem to be using them for spells. edit: I also didn't hear you mention one of the coolest details of the fungal undead, that when they hit they apply spores to the target. So attack with them first, then kill the target with your melee attacks and if they die you get a new, free minion without losing a spore charge!

Actually monk weapons are not all weapons you are proficient with. I got polearm proficiencies from being human and if i used a glaive or halberd, i was not able to use dex, and not able to bonus action unarmed strike after attacking with them. I believe the stipulation is that a monk weapon cannot be heavy.

I love paladin/druid. I just hate losing a feat.

Honestly, feats aren’t even that powerful. Many of the most powerful builds forego a feat and are brutally overpowered.

i really like your videos but its hard to follow in an actual playthrough because im not starting the game level 12, for example multiclassing i think can only be down at certain levels, so its all a bit confusing

You'd follow the progression of the build then :) Just respec your character and match the level I have set. The video is meant to be played either AT level 12 or en route so that's why the progression part shows what class I take at which level!

Tried making a druid so many times but its always trashed in the end, as its just worse in pretty much everything. And as I play with increased difficulty all pets are just useless as they die instantly and dosnt do any dmg as well as the temp hp goes instantly. Looks good on paper but meh. So this becomes a mediocre monk-build sadly.

From a half I did not stop asking myself why this video is called "THE BEST Spore Druid" as it just showed how Spore Druid works together with a Open Hand Monk. Whis in not much with exception of Symbiotic Entity, which of couse works with any martial class. And why you chose multiclassing into Monk? Because you like it! That's not how being THE BEST works. If it was called "Spore Druid for beginners, I would press a like. But as it not, dislike it is.

Just to clarify: monk weapons totally can be USED two-handed, they just can´t have the TAG two-handed. What this means is if the weapon is VERSATILE you are fine. There are plenty. Bro has never seen how an actual quarter staff is used my martial artist, especially by Shao-Lin monks it seems +facepalm+ So no, you do not need to use a shield to not have a two-handed weapon, staffs are versatile and thus fine. Also, one-handing a staffs look like poo-poo and destroys that monk passive requiring you to neither have armor NOR a shield.
