I did dual weilding beast master ranger knight. Strength based with heavy armor. Party was 3 moon druids in wolf form. Just pretended I had a ranger with a wolf pack haha

in my opinion beastmaster needs full commitment to be a good class. beasts get extra attack, more HP, and more abilities at level 11. Raven and bear can summon additional units for you at this point and can easily debuff or deal substantial damage.

Just a quick note, if I'm not mistaken (please anyone correct me if I'm wrong), invisibility, darkness, etc, they are not cantrips, they are simply spells that these races get access to. Cantrip is a level 0 spell, so firebolt, minor illusion, etc.

When acquired through classes they are spells. When acquired through racial bonuses they are cantrips that can be used once per day without consuming a spell slot. So for instance a Drow Warlock could cast Darkness for free once per day using it's racial as well as having access to additional Darkness casts using their spell slots.

If you’re a drow, faerie fire is like a cantrip as it doesn't use a spell point but it requires a long rest before you can cast it again. If you’re not a drow, faerie fire is a lvl 1 evocation spell. So I'm not sure if race spells are classed as a cantrip or a spell, it feels kinda in between the two.

There are racial cantrips, like dancing lights for the drow or fire bolt for elves, and then there is [race] magic that usually require a rest.

if it hasn't been said already, the hunting shortbow(and gandrel's bow) are great in act 1 honour mode against the spider queen as it's a monstrosity enemy so you'll gain advantage making the fight much easier

I think it's gone a little bit under everyone's radar that you have to actively go out of your way to make a bad build. Even if you do somehow manage it, there's plenty of unrestricted items to compensate. An 8 Int Wizard who talked his way into Mage School with his 18 Cha, is not only a viable character, it's one that could breeze through much of the game. If you can beat the game as Jack of All Trades in Tactician, you can beat the game with anything. Honour Mode is a different beast but I'd be willing to bet that a player who knows what they're doing could make it work.

I have over 300 hrs into the game and haven't been able to get into the house of hope via Helsik due to lack of dialog. I might try to kill her to progress. Thank you for your content. @@moneymakethewrld360 It's good, but the pets are meh. Raven is solid for sure and the debuff on the wolf is helpful. Best way to play is get all the dex gear you can muster, but use titanstring longbow + cloud giant pots. I consistently do about 100+ damage per turn and its tons of fun.

I think it's worth getting fighter 2 earlier for action surge in many cases. Ofc it depends on how you play and how often you SR. But I'm playing basically this build but with the first 2 levels of fighter after level 6 (then back to ranger) and I didn't miss the help or HP buffs because you can get around that with good tactics.

I really like to take both the Raven familiar and the Raven companion. 1. All 3 characters start sneaking 2. Familiar Raven opens on nearest enemy with blind then retreats 3. Companion Raven opens on 2nd enemy then positions in melee range of ranged character 4. Clean up

i've been using a less offensive version of this class, a 11 beastmaster 1 war cleric with band of mystic scoundrel and helmet of arcane acuity. The goal is to open with multi target arrows and keep arcane acuity high, and drop 95% command: halt or grovel every turn while your crow spreads darkness for the squishy monk and the warlock to go ham on. Love this class, so flexible

My first play through was a bard. I like how well rounded that class is Good spells and I had a TON of weapon proficiencies I also like being able to shittalk my enemies also my Charisma is so high I can get out of fights with out ever having to enter combat. Combine that with wood elf stealth proficiency and I end up being good at infiltrating my enemies camps and control outcomes pretty much entirely. I might try this build next though cause it looks fun.

Just a small correction about the Battle Master Manoever Precision Attack: You describe it as the game adding the *number of superiority dice you have left to use* to your next attack roll, but that's not right. It actually *rolls* one of your superiority dice and adds the number you get to your attack role; this is even better :)

Thanks for this! It's cool to see, as I am new to the game and Beastmaster is also what I started with on my first playthrough. I went Drow Half-Elf with mine, and rarely do any melee attacks. My whole vision of this archetype is to have my pet tanking in melee while I shoot arrows from the back. I don't believe that I plan on sub-classing. Having a good time with it. Interesting comment about the Hunter's Bow as I undervalued it since I already have Hunter's Mark and good ways to get Advantage. I've been using the long bow that adds electric damage instead, though I'm not sure if wearing more charge items is worth it.

Great vid, totally agree with your build style. Building a character you came up with is always better. Using the meta build is boring. It’s a disservice to a game that has so many build options when people only use the same 3 or 4 builds. Let’s face it, a couple people came up with the meta builds, then others just copied them, while pretending like they know the game so well and it was their idea.

on the battlemaster maneuver PRECISION ATTACK you have to activate it before you attack its not a reaction-able ability like sneak attack and counter spell i believe you have to activate all the maneuvers unless specifically stated otherwise great vid!

I still struggle to see the wisdom in not putting 11 levels in beastmaster ranger to get the most out of your companions. I realise action surge is amazeballs, but companions do have a lot of synergies, with hunter’s mark for example. The remaining level’s up to preference - ranger for a feat, monk for the ability to wield non-finesse versatile weapons without investing into strength, cleric or druid, or whatever really. That said, if one assumes it -is- worth not doing the above, this is a great option.

Drizzi actually IS a RANGER but a hunter with an awesome figurine of wonderous power. Salvitore himself explains why dtizzt doesn't cast spells due to a rangers Divine spells coming from a deity. Drizzi explains that he is agnostic.

7 oath breaker for aura of hate, 3 warlock pact of the blade great old one for mortal reminder, 2 tempest cleric is what I went with. Yea its built around one spell, however thunderous smite doesn't use concentration unlike the others, max the damage with tempest destructive wrath, the guaranteed crit from the illithid ability tree plus your divine smite and there you have it.....your game has now crashed. My first build on release and still one of my favs.

Knight is awesome. Gives heavy armor prof. Maybe you don't want to wear a plate armor, but some heavy boots or helms . Never take wasteland poison it is useless (druid ,kept in camp which doesn't join the party in adventure, can buff you with protection from poison). Fire is better than cold. Always pick at level 1 hunters mark and long strider. You can almost infinite amounts of hunters marks , but limited amounts of the other non ritual spells.

Why is it that at the 13:25 mark you are saying to have 8 strength and 16 dexterity but then at 13:30 after you leveled up it is showing 10 strength and 17 dexterity? The wisdom is also different.

I like the idea of 11 beastmaster 1 war cleric this is the culmination of throwing two builds i saw on reddit together so credit to the smarter minds than me you won't be outdamaging a zerker anytime soon but this is a weaker zerker with utility- take a shot everytime i said darkness in this comment race- duerger or whatever you want i'm boring and will probably pick half wood elf or just use my boy minsc attributes str 15+2, dex 14+1, con 14, wis 12, cha and int 8 feats Tavern brawler +1 strength ASI 2 dex leaves you on 16 str 16 dex, which if you use everlasting vigour would get you to 18 strength, then you can use mirror of loss to 20 We're fully online at level 5 4 ranger 1 cleric ending on 11 ranger 1 cleric or you can forego strength completley pop elixers and starting on dex 17 boost dex to 20 with hags hair +asi and rejigging for more wis or con leaving tavern brawler to up con you will need str as throwing weapons usually aren't finesse but hill/cloud giant elixers take care of that Key spells sanctuary longstrider (ditch completley if you have another longstrider user in your party) plant growth lightning arrow and ofc hunter's mark itemization ring of flinging gloves of uninhibited kushigo selune's or shar's spear or thrown weapon of your choice, theres tonnes shield (any) Strange conduit ring- you're going to be focusing on hunter's mark anyway so why not add psychic damage? callous glow ring- why not? clerics get light as a cantrip after all if you go the dex route listed above armor of agility if not you can wear armor of persistance with ranger knight picked but armor of persistance gives disadvantage on stealth boots you can either use persistance, but we're immune to difficult terrain anyways or blackguard which also gives free longstrider you can also use good old risky ring but since you're can't be blinded with shar's spear while obscured and darkness obscures shar's spear makes it obselete by giving you advantage anyway while attacking in darkness okay so hear me out you can make a pretty potent throwing build with those items and tavernbrawler it wont outdamage a barbarian but what you get is full power pets who provide utility and do extra damage on Hunter's mark or create darkness to give enemies disadvantage when using shar's spear cc spells spiked growth/plant growth command Immunity to your own CC with landstrider create water from cleric, sanctuary from cleric light from cleric, bonus action throws from cleric throwing weapons on bonus attacks one of which can inflict wet leading to a wet lightning arrow combo so how's it all come together? if you use an eldritch knight hireling you can give thrown weapons the bound weapon property by having them cast bound weapon then giving the ranger back the weapon and dismiss the hireling you can do this with weapons as early as level 3.this leads to a throwing build with support from pet extra damage from hunter's mark. you get 3 throws per turn 2 from extra attack from ranger 1 from war cleric bonus action you won't be outdamaging any barbarian anytime soon but you can use karlach for smashing stuff with a big weapon or maybe even one of those tiger bloodlust builds you heard about ;), you still have your full ranger slot progression while doing damage from throwing, damage is ridiculous if you use a character with bhaalist armor to but not everyones up for becoming an assassin of Geralt (Yes Bhaal is the same voice actor as Geralt) why ranger? why not? as good a choice as any, shar's spear gives extra damage on obscured enemies ravens drop darkness all the time and the spear makes you immune to being blinded by darkness what weapons work? i'll put this in two lists need eldritch knight Shar's spear of evening- Immunity to darkness ability to cast darkness extra damage to enemies in darkness, advantage on saving throws in darkness, basically darkness Selune's spear of night- Advantage on wisdom saving throws and perception checks Moonbeam, which i'm not sure why you'd use but it's there trident of the waves- applies wet on enemies ranger has lightning arrrow, use throw as a bonus action obliterate with lightning arrow as your action sussar dagger- free silence on a thrown weapon? yes please wouldn't use that as a main weapon but pick it up after the fight don't need eldritch knight Dwarven thrower- quite a few bonuses for dwarves Nyrulna- I wouldn't pick it personally wouldn't want to hit my pets but it's a great weapon Returning Pike- Ol' reliable these weapons are all options, you could lob boots at your enemies if you were having fun this is just an idea what would you end up with?/TL:DR Inbuilt cc with spells, support/damage with pets, big damage with throwing weapons, create water shenanigans and all the good stuff that comes with that and immunity to your own CC guidance for checks and a fuzzy little killing machine with any of your pets darkness to control the field with bonuses if using shar's spear or control if using selune's spear thanks raven!. also spiders web which being a good companion in itself can also negate fall damage using web meaning you can jump to another posistion. and finally invisibility with hide in plain sight if you want surprise shenanigans apologies for the essay i get carried away discussing builds, I did post this comment once before but don't think it took so my bad if it's been posted twice

we aren't going str! :D we're focusing on dex and using a bow first and foremost, but melee you can definitely go with! nothing stopping you from going with a half orc, you just don't get their attack bonus on ranged weapons

For anyone that's curious, in my opinion if you go dual weilding and plan to use Dex as your main modifier, do not pick up dual wield for your feat. Most weapons that are finesse can also be dual wielded natualy, with the exception of the rapier. If you get this, I actually recomend swapping your Dex and Str around to make a strength ranger. Gives a reason to pick up the heavy armor perk too. Doing this with dual wield opens up many more options and choices for weapons. Lastly, for people crying about the bow being useless then, Titans bow. You get it in act one and plays off your Str. Instead of Dex. Your welcome.

You're a tad wrong about the Titans bow, it just adds your str to your dmg, it still uses dex for hitting and for dmg it just gets bonus dmg added based on str, if you have no dex or low dex you should just use throwing weapons as that is strength based.

I’m new to the game. Gnome Ranger knight with heavy armor/dual wield; are you saying my feat shouldn’t be dual wield? I’m not sure if my points should be into STR or DEX and why. Should I only choose STR if I choose dual wielding?

@winterapparel7540 No, I'm not saying not to take it but just that there is a difference. Most finess weapons have the light trait, letting you hold them without dual wield, great for dex builds. What I'm saying is if you go a strength set, most str. weapons you'll need dual wield to hold in each hand. As for the heavy armor. The only reason to have dex is for your bow and initiative. Heavy armor nullifys any bonuses to armor class from dex, so if you do str. ranger, the heavy armor is there so your not so squishy, where if you do dex I would recommend light or medium armor for them instead. For a newbie, I recomend for the str. ranger, bring Dex to 10 Str. to at least a 16 if your going to leave it there, and Con. to at least 14. From there you can shape them how you'd like whether that is getting their strength higher, boosting your hitpoints or investing a few points into wisdom to help with your ranger skills.
