Fasten your seatbelt for a whirlwind adventure back in time with former Springbok loose forward Warren Brosnihan. Warren made his Springbok Test debut in a 61-22 annihilation of Australia at Loftus Versveld in Pretoria. He also scored a try in a memorable first outing in the famous green and gold jersey.
But a combination of injuries, coaches preferring other players and competing against a gifted generation of Springbok loose forwards meant Brosnihan’s Test career was limited to just six appearances.
Here Warren looks back at a special time in his life and Springbok rugby. He recalls the highlights, the lowlights and speaks frankly about all the incidents that took place in those days. This is a much-watch episode of Front Row Rugby!

Peter, I think this was one of your best interviews to date and loved how Warren got into the more technical side of things, especially on how he defended Ron Cribb. I've never heard that about flankers putting a different knee forward - I keep on learning everyday! It was of course the Scotland test in 2013, with the Boks playing in the white jerseys. A few other interesting bits of trivia - it was also the test where Siya Kolisi made his debut and when the infamous Hamilton/Etzebeth scuffle took place. The following year Mbombela gave us the cracking test against Wales where we won with a last minute penalty try (Liam Williams shoulder-charging Cornal Hendricks into touch). Hope all is well in Doha!

Yes, Scotland in our white jerseys with a certain Siya making his first appearance! I actually forgot about that important fact. Another great interview, Peter. Wonderful to see that Warren talk with so mutch passion about his rugby career. These old players shoud stay involved in rugby like coaching ect.

Thanks Stefan. Yes, Warren was a wonderful guest. So good to have him on and you could just feel the passion and love he has for this sport. He is of course still involved with commentary but you are right, it would be great if more of them stayed involved in some or other capacity.

That explanation of the tackle on Ron Cribb was particularly interesting. There are so many techniques applied during a test that we don't see or even know of

Yeah it was very cool. Warren's ability to explain those technical movements are superb. As you say there's a lot of stuff going on that us ordinary folks don't see but we love this game nevertheless!

I vaguely remembered Warren playing for the boks. I think he was the loose forward replacement for the Sharks. Most of the time the back three were van Rensburg, Fyvie and Teichmann. I miss super rugby back then until they destroyed it with the conference set up.

Yes he didn't play many Tests but he certainly was a guy who always added value. Played for the Lions, Sharks and Bulls in the end. Agree with you Super Rugby lost its spark with the introduction of the conferences.

@@frontrowrugby The Sharks under Mac was my favorite super rugby team. The whole squad were springboks. You had strong reserves like Warren Brosnihan, and Shaun Payne, Thompson, Muller, Terblanche, Gillingham, van der Westhuizen, Lawless, Joubert, Russell Bennett all had to fight for a starting back 5 behind Henry Honiball. Mac made this small KZN team into legendary status.

Mac is a legend. I'm so happy I could get him on the show before he passed. The Stormers/WP have always been my domestic team.

As usual Peter another top notch interview! Warren Brosnihan was a great loose forward who should've played more tests- but he played in an era where there were outstanding world class loose forwards for South Africa!
