LTTE terrorists killed more than 100,000 innocent Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, Dutch, and Portuguese descendants in Sri Lanka over the 30-year horrific terror regime by the terrorist leader Prabhakaran. He killed hundreds of innocent Buddhist devotees who were worshipping Lord Buddha under the SACRED BO TREE (Sri Maha Bodhi) in the ancient city of Anuradhapura. They bombed the most sacred TEMPLE OF TOOTH RELIC (Sri Dalada Maligava) in the ancient Kingdom of Kandy. They cut and killed a bus-load of Buddhist monks in a remote area. They invaded the innocent Sinhalese villages and cut the necks of babies who were sucking milk from the mothers. They chopped open the bellies of the Sinhalese pregnant mothers. Every time the Government stopped the war for peace talks (which were craftily organized by the West who supported the terrorists), the LTTE terrorists re-armed themselves and strengthened themselves. They were brutal and merciless killers. This was why the Government said in 2006 ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH! They had to engage in this HUMANITARIAN WAR against the LTTE TERRORISTS in order to save 22 million Sri Lankans from the deadly clutches of the LTTE TERRORISTS. They had kept about 300,000 innocent civilians as a human shield and attacked the Government forces from amongst this human shield. As the Government forces had to save the innocent civilians captured by the LTTE as a human shield, the Sri Lankan army had to walk to the terrorists sacrificing themselves so the innocent civilians could be saved. Finally, the Government forces saved the civilians who were kept as a human shield and defeated the war. However, the rich LTTE diaspora and the Western countries who are benefited by the LTTE diaspora are now fabricating lies stating that the Government forces committed war crimes. That is ridiculous and unfathomable. When the LTTE terrorists killed more than 100,000 innocent civilians over 30 years, and when the terrorists cut open the wombs of the pregnant mothers, the so-called pseudo humanitarian organizations were fast asleep! I don't say anything about your opinion Dilushan, but the think is as Luke mentioned, If you asked about the war history of Sri Lanka the answer is actually based on the who you are asking! I want to give a small explanation of the war from a perspective of a second generation from the civil war as a Tamil. The real war actually started when the British leave the country as a one nation, which had 2 different nations at first. They left the country and civilians vote to select their leaders, as Sinhalese were the majority when considering it as a one nation, so the Sinhalese became the president, prime minister and all of that, and Tamils never had that chance. But that is not a problem, the war started when the Sinhalese government started to make rules and regulations against tamils, and they tortured many Tamil peoples with the help of the governement. But at the same time normal Sinhalese and Tamil people always united with each other. The government is the main thing for the problem. As you can now see the situation of Sri Lanka, where the country is totally corrupted by the same RAJAPAKSA'S family government, which is the same government during early 2000. So, then the Tamil leader Prabhakaran came up and be against the government on behalf of all the Tamil civilians, named after 'Tamil Tigers' (LTTE). And in my opinion I think it is always easy to talk without thinking about the consequences that speech has on other people. I can see in these comments people calling the TAMIL TIGERS which is mostly inappropriate. Because if the LTTE is on Sri Lanka they would not allow the RAJAPAKSA'S FAMILY (government) to sell the country to CHINA. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY Tamil Tigers be against the government not only for the Tamil people and being selfish they also stand with Sinhalese. The main point of the civil war is against the government and the civilians, just because they are tamils you cannot say they only consider about tamil. I think he attempted to do his best to explain, unfortunately it did not come out right. During the colonial era, the Tamils were brought in to Sri Lanka to work as labors mainly in plantations. The native Sinhalese did not/or refused to work as labors. . As a comparison, it's the same as in US where slaves were brought in from Africa. The Tamil population grew along the lines and in certain parts of the country they were segregated. Also know in Sri Lankan history, Sri Lankan kings marrying women from India. After Sri Lanka gained independence, the majority Sinhalese were establishing and discovering their identity. For example, they were establishing Sinhala as the main language, given they were the majority. While this was going on, Tamil minority groups did not want to be under the Sinhala majority rule, thus wanted a separate state in Sri Lanka. Just think of the same situation happening in US. That led to a civil war between the Sinhalese and Tamils.

There are 2 types of Tamils in Sro Lanka. Eelam Tamils and hill Tamils. Eelam Tamil are natives living in north and eastetn Lanka, They probably might even predate the sinhalas who came from bengal in India. Hill or plantation Tamils live in central sri lanka and were brought to work on tea plantation by british. The civil war was between Eelam Tamil n Sinhalas as the Eelam Tami who before colonialisagion had their own kingdom in north. The british found Jaffna or Eelam Tamil to be hardworking and intelligent than the sinhalas. Thus Tamils were favoured nothing to do with divide and rule politics as they united the sinhala n Tamil kingdom under dutch or portugese to be united country called ceylon. This triggered the majority sinhalas as Tamils were economically better off. The sinhala govt started discriminating and targeting Tamil e.g burning the once largest Jaffna library which housed rare Tamil manuscripts thus destroying Tamil history. What you've stated is not correct either. Note that there are two Tamil populations in Sri Lanka; the Sri Lankan Tamils and the Indian Tamils. Tamils were here well before colonial times. And yes the Sinhalese refused to work the plantations under very poor facilities and very low pay. Tamils were brought from india to work in plantations under very low pay and live in line homes. Even today estate workers have the lowest pay grade in Sri Lanka.
