Clef has brutal gameplay mechanics surrounding your team's AI. If you put them on the whistle, after a dodge your allies often don't start attacking again soon enough to actually do any damage before they have to move again. additionally, every micro-readjustment of positioning makes them stop acting and move. Finally, there is splash / cone / aoe damage attached to normal attacks, and when your team follows you, they walk into that damage and they stay there. In melee you're re-positioning regularly, and you have to dodge more than orbia needs to from range. The result here is that you're repositioning much more often in melee and your team ends up just doing nothing for prolonged periods of time or taking damage they shouldn't have taken because they've repositioned into splash damage. I've had my allies use zero abilities for like 20 seconds because their AI doesn't resume working right away after explicitly following me. This results in deaths or very prolonged fights. all that also includes the standard AI BS where you dodge and they just run back and forth and end up wasting time or literally running straight back into an AOE pointlessly. If you don't put them on the whistle, you can reposition without interupting AI use of skills and attacking, and you can resolve the positioning / facing issues pertaining to splash damage. Unfortunately your allies don't reposition/dodge and they die. I've ended up binding the whistle and target AI options to easily reached keys so i can toggle back and forth to pull them out of aoe when they are going to get hit, and leave them alone otherwise... but it adds another level of complexity to controlling your team that is really just annoying. It is easy to dodge all the stuff, but getting your team to dodge all the stuff with you AND ALSO do literally anything... not as easy.

@@joeyshine80 Cleaf is annoying as heck to use. The controls, especially if you're mouse and keyboard are so wonky. It also doesn't help that the camera has a mind of its own at times. As an added bonus, when I am playing with Cleaf he just suddenly stops attacking whatever he's targeting, even if it is the only thing on the field. Then it takes forever to reacquire the target and start attacking again. I have no idea why he does this, but it happens all the time and is usually the main culprit in me losing a big boss battle that I shouldn't have. To tie in what the OP stated, Cleaf has the ability to absorb a lot of damage, but he doesn't really put out any. Combine that with your monsters being inept on AI control and having their own issues with attacking if you try to dodge attacks, and you got problems. The other issue with Cleaf is that his attacks don't really add any debuffs.

Summoners in this game are like Homunculi from Sky Arena. I picked Kina despite the character being a kid cause it was a support character. I wanted my summoner to be the biggest fan of the monsters I summon and she does that. I've only leveled her passives only and don't regret is thus far. Cleaf is appealing to me after playing for so long simply because he is built to take hits and when auto repeating dungeons your summoner won't dodge boss attacks. Orbia, like all DPS will only really shine once you hit the peak of end game.

Great breakdown, definitely agree Cleaf's kit is insane, but I also agree with a lot of comments that his mechanics ruin team AI. Hoping that future balance patches/updates fix a lot of AI movement in this game because it's really detrimental to gameplay.

AI is definitely kind of funny in this game but it's also part of the fun I think. There's ways to manipulate it though like with assassins etc.

Something. So PVP is pretty much Cleaf and 3 support. Its super annoying. I got owned my 1st time not knowing what he did and they were like 25k power less than me. Love the content.

I'm playing Orbia anyway cuz I like the character. At the end of the day, this matters way more than playing the most powerful one.

This is true for casual play through and solo content, but this is far from true when playing higher level content or pvp. You’ll be destroyed for not min-maxing.

Mostly agree with your assessment regarding which character is the better starting option at this time. However, things to consider would be future content. At some point, the developers are going to realize one character is not on par with others. The one thing that stood out to me was her passive skills which were not really covered. When she drops below 30% she applies skill acceleration for 10 seconds which sounds like it would stack with other summoners skill acceleration. She also gives a shield that absorbs 30% of max HP to nearby team members and monsters. Lastly, she applies DEF down for 10 sec on a critical hit. These passive skills at least give her some utility for group content. My point is if she's not up to par with other monsters/summoners I would expect to see some patches to bring her up to snuff in the near future. I haven't been playing long at all so I can't really say if her skills and abilities can be so easily replaced. It did seem like she was being out damaged by her own monsters but they were substantially higher level then her. If this carries over into endgame I couldn't say. Either way, good initial assessment but I think it would require a more in-depth look.

Yeah I almost started orbia and I decided to read short stuffs skills and had similar reaction was so glad I took a minute to read you can just skip revive and healers with healer summoner cause on all weapons that 3rd skill heals to full aoe from what I've noticed

The three you get during the game play. Shannon is your buffer/debuffer, Konamiya for healing and speeding up skill uses, and Iselia as a damage dealer. Hellia is by far the best dps 3 star monster, the Dark Harpy. You can slot her in where Iselia would have an unfavorable element match up.

Energy of fire @ beginning game is hard to stack on each monster.....to get a burn or poison or electric shock. Once you level up and gain mana, atk spd etc it gets better. But ya energy of fire is just a "mark" to apply a DOT

Simply level up monsters to increase account level. Once you have your main teams in line level up ALL (even 1* monsters) evenly to get the most account exp

Yeap, I started out with Cleaf and I am regretting that decision. I have him at level 56, and while I have managed to grind through stuff to get here, the road has been PAINFUL with the horrible controls and his play style. I feel like I am constantly fighting against the game to get him to do what he should already be doing. There are Boss mechanics that completely wreck him because he simply can't get out of the way or when you do dodge it, he will inexplicably go right back to where you just moved from and get hit by the attack....then there is the random losing target lock issue....I absolutely hate my time with Cleaf.
