@nickbrenton335Ай бұрын
They are the same but on a Deadlift you start from the floor, lift up, hold and back to the floor. A squat you start from standing and squat to the floor, hold and back to standing. They work different muscles. 👍
@msgtwarmonger360325 күн бұрын
Look closer… with the squat the torso stays upright; with the deadlift the torso hinges forward at the hips so the weights go all the way down to the floor. But both keep the back straight (aka, not arched).

I have been doing this for the past year and it is brilliant. I do 4 sets or circuits of this exercise 10 reps so that's 200 reps when I'm done. If I have energy which I now do, I do 3 sets of 10 bench, 3 sets of 10 flys, and 3 sets of 10 cable exercises. Usually takes me a hour to do.

I'm not yet 40, but I found this very challenging. I don't have much equipment at home, but I used two 30 lbs dumbbells for all the exercises and here it is 2 days later and my legs are still feeling it hard. I did add bicep curls and dumbbell calf raises into the routine to try to add some more muscles into the circuit. This was the first time really pushing myself in a long time so imagine the next few times my muscles won't be hurting so long after the routine.

Hey Patrick, thanks for writing in! The DB Squat is a movement where you will start lower, pushing the total weight off the floor. Your torso will be more vertical. The DB Deadlift will keep your hips higher, pulling the total weight off the floor. Your torso will be more flat. So your hips will play a larger role with the DL compared to the Squat. Thanks for writing in! A good rule of thumb is to use a weight that has you struggling as you approach your recommended rep range. I'm not a fan of using dumbbells for big lifts like the squat and deadlift. Barbells allow for much more weight to be used which should be the priority for complex movements.
@Fitfatherproject5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. That being said... having dumbbells at home and being able to do these circuits in a super quick and convenient fashion makes them deadly effective. With Metabolic Resistance Training workouts, it's not so much about total poundage lifted... but total work performed in a set amount of time. Dumbbells are superior in this aspect because you don't have down-time between exercises (needing to change plates and positions with a barbell). That being said, there are some Barbell Complexes we have in our programs that are deadly effective too. And we are HUGE proponents of classic barbell strength training on the "Big 5" lifts. It's a core foundation of our men's program Fit Father 30X. Great commend, David. TY my friend.

I’ve been following your channel for some time now and I find it very helpful. Thank you very much. I have a bit of dilemma about exercising because I have multiple slipped discs in my lumbar that is caused mainly by my weight and even though I already lost most of that weight, I am still afraid that doing a weight lifting exercise would aggravate pain. What lifting exercises would you recommend? Thank you very much.
@Fitfatherproject5 жыл бұрын
Hi Adriane, thanks for writing in and kudos to you for dropping so much weight! Without knowing the extent of your back/discs, it's always safe to avoid movements that put strain on your back (deadlifts, heavy squats, overhead presses, etc). However, that's not to say it is impossible to perform them! As long as you are confident in engaging your core, your back becomes safer. When you brace or flex your core, your back naturally straightens and in doing so becomes more prepared to take on weight. So always err on the lighter side when attempting said movements, but also work on strengthening your core to better equip your body to handle them. -The FFP Team

Great circuit training , but wat is the best way to warm-up before doing this circuit ? Gr . from The Netherlands .
@Fitfatherproject5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave! The best way to warm-up before starting this circuit training is to move your body for 5-10 minutes. That can be riding a bike, taking a light jog, bouncing on a rebounder or plyometric stretches. The warm up can vary, what matters is that your body/muscles feel "warm" and ready to start the exercises. -The FFP Training Staff
@nadianadoosh74973 жыл бұрын
How should I warm up before and should I do cardio after the workout?
@Fitfatherproject3 жыл бұрын
Hey Nadia, thanks for writing in and great question! The goal of a good warm-up is to get your muscles/joints loose, get the blood flow circulating, and get your heart-rate elevated so you're more primed for the activity about to take place. This helps to ensure a more effective workout but also to help prevent injury. For a good upper and lower-body warm-up, check out the videos below. Regarding cardio post-workout, that is a great time to implement this type of activity. Post-lifting and/or in between your main lifting days are great times to have some extra calorie burn while also helping promote some active recovery and blood flow to your muscles. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGPKl2SGqpxmndU kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWacpHebrteYppY& -The FFP Team

@Fitfatherproject3 ай бұрын
Thanks for writing in and great question! The time it will take varies, depending on how much you want/have to lose and how dedicated you are with following your plan. Most guys can lose around 2-4lbs/week...sometimes more, sometimes less. But I can tell you that the more consistency you bring to the table, the more and faster you can make LIFELONG changes for you and your family! -The FFP Team

Dumbell squats and dead lift look exactly the same to me. Any difference?
@Fitfatherproject10 ай бұрын
Squat, so as you lower down, you are keeping your weight through your heels and the dumbbells in line with your ankles. As you push up, you push through your heels and use your quads and glutes to push straight up. The deadlift, so as you lower down, you are leaning forward slightly more, and moving the weights in front of your ankles. As you push back up, you should use your hamstrings and lower back. They are similar exercises, with very subtle differences in the way you raise yourself back to the top position.

I don't see any difference between the DB squats and DB deadlifts. The form appears to be the same. What is the difference between them?
@Fitfatherproject Жыл бұрын
Hey there, one of the easiest ways to distinguish between a DB Squat and Deadlift is to mentally focus on different parts for each. The Squat is almost like standing and pushing yourself off the floor while the DL is more about pulling the weight off the floor, especially with the hammies, glutes, and lower-back (safely with a tight core). Otherwise, check out this video for more info: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5WzlqevotRkmsk Hope that helps! -The FFP Team

@Fitfatherproject7 ай бұрын
Hey hitmen, thanks for writing in and great question! We recommend taking at least a day off in between resistance-training workouts to let your body heal up. When you do this type of training, you are literally creating micro tears in your muscle fiber (so they can grow back and be stronger later on) but if you don't give yourself time to recover, you run the risk of overtraining. Now eventually over time you can perform this daily as your fitness improves but off the bat, we recommend 3x/week to start. -The FFP Team

Aren't the squats hard on the knees though? I bring this up especially as this is designed for men over 40, and *hint hint* I'm hoping when you do the women's over 40, you'll take bad knees into consideration. :D I'm sorry, I'm really excited for the women's version here!
@Fitfatherproject5 жыл бұрын
We are releasing The Fit Mother Project next quarter!! Really excited to support you too. And to your squat question: they are not necessarily bad on "older knees." Humans are designed to be able to squat The problem is that so many of us have 1) muscular imbalances, poor posture, unhealthy movement patterns (from sitting too much largely) 2) some kinds of arthritis/normal wear and tear from aging. We have legitimately thousands of guys on our Fit Father 30X program who are squatting up a storm :) That said, if your knees hurt during squats, don't do them. There are plenty of other exercises you can use.

Uhm,.... what exactly is the difference between a dumbbell squat and a dumbbell deadlift? You make them look practically identical.
@Fitfatherproject5 жыл бұрын
You are correct! They are *VERY* similar. With the DB Deadlift... think of it as more of a "hip hinge" motion... less of a "squatting down." So keep your legs a bit more straight (less knee flexion) with the deadlifts, which will help activate your glutes and hamstrings more.
